    did you pass a cultivator after the chisel? i have similar old fields and was thinking of passing twice the chisel plow then maybe twice a cultivator and broadcast new hay mix seeds

    The spring loaded tines are working as designed. To get more depth do a second pass over the field at a 30/45 degree angle to your first tun.

    That is where a 3 row or 4 row bottom plow works good. But I did want to see what a chisel plow that size would do so good job

      GreenBoy at GA Farms I have a 4 bottom now looking to get a 5 shank chisel soon

    Always level the 3 point out. Other than that, haooy to see what it did in hard ground. I disc'd the back half of my property and just picked up a tow behind 7 shank chisel for $400. Now off to the other half of my hard clay ground. I just need a 3-4 bottom plow, grader blade, box blade, round baler, mower and rake. Also ground to lease...

      Brandon Caldwell awesome that one didn’t do very well so i sold it and went to a 4 bottom plow. This past year I bought a 5 shank chisel plow and will be using it for the first time soon

    Just curious, what's the difference between disc and plow?

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You plow first and breaks the ground or turns the ground and leaves large chunks. Then you disk the ground which you will see in my vids breaks those chunks of dirt into a fine seed bed

      Morning. When do you use a molboard plow (terminology) vs a chisel plow? I have native pasture grass that I want to till and replant. Thanks

  • @Rcol4427
    @Rcol4427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How many HP is your tractor. I just bought the 66-7 plow with 7 shanks and that is probably the limit for my Massey 60 HP? They say 10 Hp per shank is the standard.

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was a 100 hp no problem really. I just bought a glencoe 5 shank and it uses all 100hp

      I have a old 9 shank used to be 11 and I pull it thru hard (loamy soil) with a 65hp mahinda 6065 4wd had it in low 4th gear for the most part.

    • @wbsims2996
      @wbsims2996 ปีที่แล้ว

      4wd lowers the hp requirement. I had a 30hp 2wd that struggled with a five shank, even with the tires loaded.

    • @Rcol4427
      @Rcol4427 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wbsims2996 Depends how deep you plan on going. 5 Shanks deep will press my 60 HP Massey. I don't understand how you are using a 5 shank with 30 HP! I also have 4WD. A tractor without 4WD is like a pick-up truck in 2WD...... unless all you property is dry and flat. Rule of thumb from all the farmers by me is 10HP per shank

    • @wbsims2996
      @wbsims2996 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rcol 4427 depends on what I am plowing. In Mt garden plots that I have been cultivating for 10+ years I go 8+ inches on the first pass, go much deeper when I finish with the 5 shank. I finish up with a 5ft tiller on my 2515h. In New ground or pasture I try to get the plow points buried the first time.

  • @leetime454
    @leetime454 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How hard did it pull. I been looking at getting the exact same chisel plow but my JD is only 32 hp with 4wd. My soil is much sandier but been on the fence as to whether I could use a 7 or would have to settle for a 5 chisel.

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It pulled pretty hard on my 100hp 4x4 JD it was unplowed ground. I mean you can always unbolt tines and remove them. But I would say the 5 ft would be better for your tractor. Mines for sale.

    • @wbsims2996
      @wbsims2996 ปีที่แล้ว

      I pull a 5 shank with my 2515h 4wd 25hp
      Pulls it good, does help to make multiple criss crossing passes. Ready to disc or till.

    What horsepower is your tractor?

  • @donniebargo964
    @donniebargo964 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are kicking back son because your ground is hard pan underneath that is normal after you plow it a couple of times it will get easier or moldboard plow right now and then chisel plow it after I'm aboard play all the hard clay ground I have because a chisel playoff 800 horsepower tractor won't pull for4 through it

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it was and those springs were a bit weaker I have modboard plowed a few times now. I have a new pull behind 5 shank chisel that should do better now.

    If I were you I’d invest in a good no till 7000 8 or 6 row planter and pay someone to spray and no till everything you would make more money

    • @WorldsOkayestFarmer
      @WorldsOkayestFarmer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input I am searching for a jd 7000 4 row no till I don't know how the tractor would handle a 6 row but maybe! Also in the market for a 30ft sprayer.

      Or cultivate instead of spray. Better for the environment and the pocket book

      @@bobanderson6656 Thank you for replying. I took Pirma culture and I understand that. As a former pesticide applicator I also have come to understand how toxic chemicals are to plant life and soil and water quality so it’s definitely not good to save the soil structure from being destroyed while covering the crops in pesticides which are also toxic
