I grew up in Fountain Valley. Basically a part of Huntington Beach. Dill Was about 4 or 5 years older. Saw him at some of the same spots we skated. It was always cool to see him skate. He wasn't super into saying whats up to other skaters then but neither was anyone else in the area or era. But he wasn't a dick either the way some pros were that you would come across skating around HB as a kid in the early 90s.
My brother who was in the same grade as Dill had original negatives of Dill doing some gap that I used in my high school photo class for an assignment or two.
Now living in Europe and Asia it seems really cool to look back and see that I was kind of in the epicenter for a lot of the shit that has defined skating even if I am not a part of it besides being an early observer.

yay!! Newburgh skatepark in the 90s. First place I got mugged at age 12 , later saw a dude turned blue from an overdose and finally came in to skate one day and the hardwood floor was stained with the blood from a stabbing at a Reggae dancehall show the night before. If my mother only knew where she was dropping me off.

I just caught the end of it, but I do feel lucky to have started skateboarding in the early 2000s. I think I had like. A VHS tape of Think Skateboards - Free At Last, and of course Tony Hawks Pro Trick Tips ha!! Yeah Right was my first DVD , but even then, you only got so many skate videos a year come out. Those videos became a big part of your life. and style too i feel like. rewinding and rewatching a trick endless times. Shit I should go to a shop and buy some videos.

Wow. That Spitfire video brings back memories. I was 14 and in to rollerblading with my brothers. Bought a rollerblading video out of a bargain bin. Took it home, stuck it in the VHS, and it was a compilation of the Spitfire video, Thrasher donut duty, Plan B second hand smoke, and some tour video with a young Heath Kirchart. We'd not been exposed to skateboarding in the UK at that time. When we saw Rodney Mullen in the plan B video we quit rollerblading that day and all became skateboarders thank god. The EMB footage in those videos really stood out. Such a good looking spot for footage with the fountain in the background.
