The extra dedication to blocking for the filming vs. blocking for stage is incredible. They aren't just filming the performance - they're shooting us a whole ass movie and I appreciate it greatly!

Have they done that for all the Starkid shows on TH-cam? At least the newer ones? And were people in the audience? Did they just sit through the “cuts” and “actions”?
Sara Smith Up until now the shows have basically just been a straight recoding of the live show (though they use bits from two or three shows to get the best performances). They’ve recorded some insert shots for shows before - on hmb most of the candy puns were inserts because Jeff never got them all correct, and on tgwdlm any of the shots of people coming down the aisle and the close ups involving fake blood were filmed separately. As far as I’m aware this is the first show where they’ve specially shot whole sections for the TH-cam version (if you compare how Black Friday looks to the other shows you can see the the difference in close ups and the amount of camera movement). For the inserts in Black Friday they did have a ‘fake audience’ who basically just got to sit through certain sections of the show as they filmed it! (I’ve no idea if they used friends/family or just put out a message ask for people to come along) but most of the TH-cam version is taken from regular shows, the inserts are just for things they physically couldn’t shoot without disrupting the actual show Sorry for the long comment, hope this helps!

Honestly, not only are these videos a joy to watch and make me more excited than ever to watch this, they really are a comfort to know that everyone in the industry goes through similar debacles like rehearsal miscommunication and stuff!

I was there for the audience pick up shots but I didn’t make it into this video! I was the one who didn’t actually see the show because my car overheated while I was parking 😂. My friend had the e-ticket from opening weekend, the show was fantastic!!
Um... what is more frightening is that no one drank blood in the digital ticket so I am kinda concerned as to what the hell is happening in the youtube version.

Nick goes "3, 2, 1, BANG!" and they all spit it out. It's probably a post-production scene showing the results of when Sherman gets shot in the head.

For their newer shows, the vast majority of their footage _still_ comes from live shows. However, they add pickup shots when they want to add a camera angle that would be impossible to film with a live audience in front of them. Mainly for the shots with extreme close ups, or for the shots that are facing the house.
This is exactly what theatre kids do when they’re rehearsing another show; they sing stuff from their last show
