Had one with a 16ch Tascam RCA board with inserts, it's a terrific medium for recording. Recorded a couple of records with it, great piece of kit. The remote control with that long-ass cord was a huge asset!
hey Mike! Great vid- I'm looking at something like this for playing my backing tracks during a live show. Do you think it would be a good choice for that? (I like the idea of analog better than digital)
If you can find one and they are expensive. I am having some issues with mine as well where it is speeding up and slowing down. I think you might be better off getting a small recorder like a Zoom H4n or Tascam DR-07X. If you are doing this for live shows, analog or digital isn't going to matter to the people watching.
@@MikeFoerster thanks for the reply. Sorry I should clarify, I’m not looking to record the live performance but instead use the tape deck for playing my backing tracks like 2 channels for drum loops, 2 synth channels, 1 bass channel, etc- sending the 8 individual outs to the PA-
@@JasonFarnham It's up to you. I was able to get mine at a great price because he was a friend of mine and knew that I wanted it way back in the 90s. :)
Fostex D series or Alesis HD24 is the way to go tape with 8 tracks is even worse than ADAT 8 track recorders i have 4 track cassette multi track but wouldn't use it for anything serious. Good to have nostalgia for old gear but would you make videos for TH-cam on a old 8MM and edit videos with vintage gear.
@@MikeFoerster i Have distributed music no streaming service pays anyone to even consider recording music anymore live work is what pays. Not making videos and giving YT free content
I’ve seen video of 2 of these units synced together using that serial port. On both units, track 8 were striped with SMPTE from the Tascam ATS-500 for synchronization. th-cam.com/video/UNGRONFxoc4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lGeYfY3dcwoNtZsK
@@MikeFoerster I have a single 238 and love it. I typically use track 8 for striping time code for a sequencer and run mostly everything live until mix down, leaving the remaining 7 tracks for guitar and vocals. Great unit for its time.

Really? I released an entire album done on a Tascam 4-track. It was a huge hit for me on Spotify for about 2 years.

@@theprogrammerrolandmc3039 I agree. I'm lucky to have a job that I love and do the other stuff on the side for fun. I'm glad you watched the video.

@frequincyrecording4286 I still have to get mine fixed. The speed varies too much.
