I was thinking as we were watching that Brennan only has a handful of voices and noises (that I've seen anyway), but he is a grandmaster at using them to their fullest and most emotional extent.

Ending on Aabriya's 'Why are you like this' is just perfect, and the reason Sam is like this is because underneath the trolling and stupid voices, beats the heart not only of a true, real world bard and storyteller, but of a died in the wool romantic too. And the ultimate tragedy is that it will all be for nothing. No one will be around to survive Avalir's fall. No one will find that crystal. In fact, I have a feeling that the crystal will just end up destroyed anyway, or have its message horribly corrupted from centuries of being dormant. Either way, it's a lie born out of love... and it won't even matter in the end. Of course, the even greater tragedy would be if the message DID survive... and Laerryn - the one who ultimately caused the Calamity - is viewed as being the city's hero in its final moments, and thus the truth is wholly lost forever.

Quick philosophy comment on the nature of truth, and on doing "bad things" for "good reasons": Loquatius doesn't make this lie up because love is a good reason, at least not in the same sense that the lie is a bad thing. The lie is bad very thing on a large scale, and his love is not important enough to be a good reason. Loquatius is very much in love, though, and would obviously go to great lengths - in his manipulative, scheming way - to protect and appreciate the one his love exists for. On a personal level and a smaller scale, his love is the greatest reason there could ever be, and the lie doesn't matter enough to truly be a bad thing. Both perspectives are true at the same time, as are they in real life parallells. We should not be surprised when people with a lot of power sometimes do really bad things if they can have a personal interest in the wielding of this power. This is part of the why we don't want politicians to be able to gain financially from their work, why we don't want private interests shaping social systems and why we don't want a judge to rule in their niece's trial. You might still want these things for other reasons and that's fine, there is no conflict there. But the fact that we can act on the basis of different, rationally sound, levels of reasoning still remains true. Personal goals and the "Greater Good" don't match well - and it's not because the logic is bad or the intention is evil! It's just because someone with power might wield that power for something it was not intended to be.
Every character that allows Sam to use charisma as a weapon puts him at the top of his game. That's why Scanlan was so good, it's also why I want him to play a Warlock in the future.

They are all really into the complicated relationship between Sam's and Aabriya's characters. Sam's character is deception incarnate and Brennan's lines called out how he would lie to himself and abandon what is a safe or logical reaction, even when it comes to protecting himself, because all Loquatious wants to do is protect his ex wife. It hits the players to their core because it's all a tragedy. They are playing a prequel and know that their characters are most likely doomed.
