    as someone who is fascinated with criminology, I really admire Freddie's perspective towards Norman. He has clearly studied the character and sort of put himself in Normans shoes, which speaks to his amazing acting skills, but it is admirable in the psychological sense as well. the fact that he sees Norman as a human being first and foremost, and has empathy for him and realizes that despite his illness, he did have a good heart. More people should realize that humans are multifaceted. There is no good or evil. Even in people who commit atrocities, there is still a "good" side, whatever that may be.

    I actually thought the tombstone was depressing because, even though Norman was buried with his mother, his side of the tombstone was blank. Like there was nothing that could be said about him due to the stain he left on his family name.

    So this show was so amazingly written and the actors were perfect in their roles. I so hope that Freddie Highmore receives the Emmy carrying the role so beautifully for five seasons and transforming slowly over those seasons. I was so intrigued from day one that two years ago when I was diagnosed with cancer one of the thoughts that came to mind was, "I have two seasons of Bates Motel to finish I have to be here." Oddly as it seems, people say what you enjoy the most you want to be able to conclude. My entire life I loved exceptional writing. Fantasy with a bit of truth (true emotions) in it. A wonderful plot helps us through rough times and adds to the good times. I loved the ending. It was the characters I had imagined at Norman's final scene and the way I had hoped it would end with Norman having a moment of thought and realization. He was the character I had grown to like from the beginning trying to be a good person and yet struggling with inner demons at the same time. The fact that his beloved half-brother took away his pain was a beautiful ending rather than any other scenario. Norman, for a moment, realizing the truth around him. The only way to be truly happy was to be with mother in the after-life. Purposely charging toward his brother would help (some) with easing regrets Dylan might feel with his final choice on what to do for Norman. Which ending Norman's life probably entered Dylan's mind as a last resort before he ever even entered the house. Knowing Norman would be in too much pain on earth. Norman's stabbing the door instead, and dying in his brother's arms with someone that loved him in life, and ending up with someone that loved him in death. No more torment...just peace at last.

    Throughout the entire 5 Seasons we never really gave up rooting for Norman, did we? 😅😅Freddie has made Norman’s character so likeable and sympathetic it’s hard to see him as someone who was capable of killing. We were all just hoping someone could save him but the end was already written up from the beginning when Norman shared insight with his Mother (shortly after they moved) that “maybe some people don’t get to start over” 😢

    Only thing I was left wondering after the finale, what happened to Norman's therapist, I forget the name, but he "met" him again in a cafe in season 5, and was reminded by him that his visions of Norma are an illusion and that he at times "becomes" Norma. It's later mentioned that he had gone missing a year earlier and was presumed dead, so it seems Norman's conversation with him was imagined, this is never explained though...anyone have any idea what happened to that poor guy? I liked him...

    • @psiloveyou1964
      @psiloveyou1964 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      so many people wanted to know what happened to Dr.Edwards. There's a deleted scene on the blue ray vid, that shows the Dr. going to the house,& talking with Norman.This happens after Norma's funeral. They should've left that scene in. I'd imagine Norman could've killed him,then.

    • @sfinn85
      @sfinn85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In the second episode of the final season Norman was reading a newspaper that had a headline mentioning that citizens had raised concerns over Pineview's security and as we saw in Season 4 "Mother" didn't want Norman revealing so much about his past in their therapy sessions

    • @psiloveyou1964
      @psiloveyou1964 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sarah Finn i wondered what that newspaper article said. I thought maybe it was because Julian,& Norman both snuck out. I think Julian was able to sneak out all the time. I recognize your name from the a&e bates fb page. What did you think of the ending?

    • @sfinn85
      @sfinn85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I really enjoyed the finale and it's the first one to make me cry since the 'Six Feet Under' series finale.
      I pretty much knew that Romero was going to die as soon as he showed up at the station to abduct Norman/"Mother" and demanded to be taken to Norma's body ("Mother" referring to Romero as "Lonely Hearts" was hilarious!). I started crying when Dylan was talking to Emma and completely lost it when it showed Norman being reunited with Norma. All through the series Dylan really was the only one who truly understood what Norman was going through and I'm glad he was the one to put an end to his suffering (I saw it as a mercy killing) rather than having Romero do it since the latter was so set on getting his revenge for Norma's death. This is definitely one series I will be buying the complete series of on DVD or BluRay.
      I really hope they finally get the awards they deserve. :-)

      @daniden05 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      I think the simplicity of the tombstone added to the sadness and reality of what/who Norman was. I don't think anyone in the town could've cared less about him. All they saw was that he was a serial killer....not a very sick young man. And what more could Dylan write on there? I think there would've been a loss for words in his situation anyway, given their relationship and after what happened...

      *"Beloved Son, Brother, and Friend. May he finally find peace."* OR a (supposed) favorite quote of Norman's. Anything, but blank. It was a real 'eye-roller' for me; the producers were trying too hard to make Norman a lonely and unloved soul in death. But he wasn't...with Dylan loving him to the bitter end. In life, he had been loved by his mother and Emma too. Boooooooooo to the blank side of the tombstone! :P

    Why does everyone say that the tombstone was Dylan's decision?. That was there before he even knew Norma was dead!?, and it had it all there, Norman's name 1995-. All that was left was for them to scratch on the year he died.

    • @elaine9396
      @elaine9396 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those were my thoughts exactly. Also, this interviewer was saying how sweet (or something) it was for Dylan to bury him next to his mother and what a sweet ending it was. I thought it was actually quite dark and sad because there was nothing written on his side of the tombstone. Like there is relief that he is gone and now we can just forget he existed. I thought it was sad. To me the sweet part WAS when Dylan killed Norman putting him out of his misery.
