    Did you ever get overwhelmed by all the attention you received while traveling?

    • @abdelrahmanmaaliki1054
      @abdelrahmanmaaliki1054 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wheels to Wander i think in iran and in arabic countries this is always the case. Even when i take a walk in a village in my own country people start to follow me telling different stories or ask some questions and of course their fruits are always for donation😂 one time we were about 11 persons so they gave us more than 2 entire boxes of peaches . But it is not overwhelming for me because i do not vlog .

    • @WheelstoWander

      Hi Abdelrahman! For us the hospitality is extraordinary, quite a bit different than in central Europe. Of course there are also a lot of friendly people but a bit more reserved. Would you consider vlogging on your coming bike tour?

    • @abdelrahmanmaaliki1054

    How beautiful of the hotel to make you a Christmas cake and Christmas tree. With Iran being predominantly Islamic - I was very very pleased to say they did this for you.
    Just goes to show what we are told via our media is definitely biased.
    I brought a tear - so nice and the people respectful

    • @WheelstoWander
      @WheelstoWander  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It was a wonderful moment. The media portrays a very one-sided view of reality. Most people have the best intensions and are open to various perspectives on life.

    Also I'm a bit overwhelmed! It's so great to see that the majority of the people in a country we thought was bad, seemed to be the most nice and hospitable human beiings on our planet! I was completely overwhelmed by the action of the staff of the hotel, giving a very nice present fot Christmas. It was something I never would have expected since religion matters are in our views strictly focust on their own ways and traditions. I already heard some (very good) things about the Iranian people and now I respect them even more!! Hopefully we're turning into a better world. Anyway, it's because of the people you meet all the way, they deserve our utmost respect!!! And it's all about respect. For them it's not only a hollow word, it's in their soul!! Rotten appels are everywhere!!! Very nice to let us enjoy suchs a great time in Iran!!!

    • @WheelstoWander
      @WheelstoWander  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Dad! You could not have said it any better! Iran is definitely a place people should reconsider their ideas about. A lot is going on there and the image of the people is not in line with portrait the media sketches. We hope we have lifted a little little bit if the veil obscuring the actual facts. They thought you were Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow!!!! But seriously the thoughtfulness of the hotel staff with the Christmas gifts was the most heartwarming scene and resonates with everyone one of us, no matter which side of the world you live in. “With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Ordinary people are so great, so giving and loving. I am a 68 year old who has spent a lifetime travelling and my experience, outside of Europe and N. America, is that 98% of people are so generous with their time and things.
    All they want in return is respect and friendship, even if its just for 5 minutes.

      I will tell you a story myfriend, the people of Iran have got sanctions for 40 years, most of people never went further than Turkey, it's expensive for them to travel, 40 years is a lifetime, so when people see that people from outside Iran come to visit, specialy from Europe or America or Russia or Japan ,they get really happy, they never expect to meet some people from these regions becouse they can't travel outside Iran and also the terrorist label on Iranians makes it difficult for them to travel to any country, people like to connect to the rest of the world and when they finaly see a foreigner comes to their lands it's like the long waited guest for them and they will do so much for them.

    I feel I have to write this for you to explain maybe a little bit why tourists get overwhelming(unwanted) attention form Iranian people. Although I guess it mostly happens in small towns and villages...
    a) people there, they don't really have something special going on their daily lives and you are their extraordinary part of life!
    b) They don't really get to travel (because they're mainly poor), so you as a tourist from a part of the world that they may just heard of it once, you are their vacation! (specially south(east) of Iran is very deprived unfortunately...)
    c) Iranian people know that for nearly half a century they have been demonized by the media, so when they see a tourist they want to change that stereotype by paying attention to you. The problem is that they don't know that EVERYONE does the same exact thing and it overwhelms tourists!
    d) Islam says: "the guest is a friend of God", so they want to be good people by basically killing you with kindness :))
    So, I know and understand the frustration it brings but at the same time I hope you understand why...
    Safe travels...

      Hi Anahita! Thank you for your comprehensive explanation. This is what we mainly gather ourselves from this experience. We have heard similar encounters from other travellers so it is happening everywhere in Iran like this. The people are incredibly warm and caring. Something that in the west is perhaps fading to a degree. I would encourage everyone who is interested to experience this amazing country for him/her self. I think if you are openminded an also have a healthy dose a go with the flow mentality your time will be very special!

      When we see good deeds we justify it and give different interpretations.
      And when we see bad deeds we say: Look that is their nature !!!
      There are many poor and remote villages whose lives are routine and deadly in the world and they have all the religious and social reasons that I said in your comment, but when they see a tourist, they do not do what the Iranians do.
      I'm not Iranian. I am Moroccan. But I think the Iranians are really decent people.

      یعنی چون اسلام میگه مهمون حبیب خداست مردم فقیر ایران مهمان نوازند؟ یا داری مهربانی و عطوفت مردم ایران رو به پای اسلام میزاری؟

      @@baxiry. it seems that Anahita think that Iranian people are kind and hospitable because of Islam religion, as an Iranian who doesn't give a shit to Islam I say that thanks to Iran pre Islam culture that we are not violent as many other Islamists in the world , Anahita don't make propaganda for Islam and Republic Islamic

      Could be, we heard that before. This might be the same in the Netherlands, we heard our Japanese friend who experienced a lot of hospitality here, but Dutch people amongst each other isn't the same. Only when you are looking different (like for example riding a fully loaded bike), people are more likely to struck up a conversation.
