it gives him a bad look. he complains a lot, but other players who do don't get as many techs he does. refs just need to regulate fouls they call or not because you can't be giving out technicals to one player, and not others for the same situation.

They need to start fining these refs for dumb calls
The refs only do what adam silver allows them to do. Until there is repercussions for their actions its not gonna change. Refs should be suspended after the 15th bad call just like the players with their technical fouls
@@pnw_al253Way before the 15th bad call lmao. Although I'd specifically use a blatantly poor call in that "ref tech" idea. So no close calls could put a ref in trouble, but anything that is clearly just them power tripping or being little cry babies about players playing the game. 5 clearly poor calls like described above should be enough to suspend a ref I think.

Ik being a ref can be difficult at times but when you do this there’s literally nothing you can say to defend yourself as a ref

When did you used to watch the NBA? Cuz this shit has always been a part of the game. Refs literally handed the Miami Heat a championship in 2006. Stern had refs deciding games left and right to ensure long playoff series and optimal TV match-ups. This sport has had atrocious officiating since virtually forever.

That's what refs are getting taught, tho. I work as a referee and I usually should give a tech if someone shouts at me in an aggressive manner, which could be anything as long as it is directed at me as the referee.
However the way I handle it is by communicating or, if necessary, warning the player not to yell at me or ask for a call. Most players understand, quickly apologize, but also calmly point out that there was enough contact for a foul. I acknowledge their protest, make sure to cover the mentioned situation better if possible and the game keeps going. - Btw, this all happens while the player runs back on defense.
I understand that the high of the emotions and of the game is something natural. So yelling, when you feel a clear call was missed isn't something that should be punished, however if the yelling is constantly repeated, then yes, the player will get a tech for yelling or complaining too much.

I one time got a technical for pumping my fists after making a lay up despite getting fouled by 2 other players back in my playing days. They're refs like that out there that love to abuse their power because they got a swirly as a kid by the school bully.

the other reason is that I can't stop him in any other way from tirelessly giving basketball lessons to their boys.
They tried in every way possible. First with fouling and now with technical and when he is kicked out of the game, the opposing team has more chances to win that game. It is possible that this was not arranged in agreement with the coaches.

The funny thing about calling a T when the player yells "and one" is you stop the game after at least 2 players know you missed a call, and give the arena a chance to show it on the jumbotron.
The sad part is that teams already know ref tendencies based on their on stat collection, but they are banned from even mentioning it. Imagine NFL teams changing their playbook to match the "playstyle" of officials.
