Thanks for discussing the use of negative clarity. I thought the discussion of using negative clarity to, my words, take the sharp edge off photose was really, really helpful. I have been noticing the 'softness' of well focused film images and how those images look so different from my digital images. One thought for a future video would be to discuss clarity versus texture, when to use each, and when / how to use them together.
Simple, clear, and brilliant. I never heard speaking of clarity in a such simple way and thx for that. Your explanation about negative clarity is great too and will make me try it. On the other side, like you I don t understand why Dji (and GoPro) don t t give a raw file without modification… which is normally the definition of raw :(. But now we know how to roll it back to normal. You win a follower !
Well delivered! Brought "clarity' to my understanding of the uses for adding or subtracting clarity to an image. Presentation is easy to understand and absorb. Even for this old dog.
Keep up these videos, Todd. I am learning so much about these fine adjustments that are making a difference to my editing. You have a great way of getting the information across in your videos.
Sucha helpful explanation and with great worked examples, thanks Todd. I really see what it is doing thanks to your example with the graduated grey chart/image, and the landscape sample you worked. I have begun experimenting with negative clarity when I sometimes use a subtle radial reversed masks on images - i would previously just drop the highlights and maybe shadows a little to draw the viewer to the subject, but more recently have also dropped the clarity just a small amount which I hope subtly tricks the viewers eye to look to the centre of attention.
This is such an excellent explanation of clarity. I have always applied clarity globally without really knowing what it was doing. Your detailed explanation of some of the fundamentals of photography, tonality etc, really set you apart from other You Tubers.
I’m not even a landscape photographer, but I find your tutorials really helpful anyway! I appreciate how you explain the "why" behind the "how" - which is the only way it makes sense IMO. Also: I’m shocked that drone and action cam manufacturers apply that terrible sharpening even to the raw files. :O
I found the Luminosity Mask part very useful. I’ve never used it that way (most people use the picker); working with the sliders seems to be a better approach.
Great video Todd! I was wondering from your experience does using a negative value of somewhere between -5 and -10 affect sharpness of the image? I recently switched over to mirrorless and for some of my action and portrait work I am loving the sharpness of the new camera/lens combos that are out now. I do find however that it's with landscape that I find myself returning to images I posted saying to myself that the sharpness of the trees(autumn shot) are so incredibly sharp it's almost distracting. Though about negative clarity but then I thought I might be reducing sharpness. Basically I want the slightly softer look without reducing sharpness too much. Sounds good in my head but writing down seems like I'm contradicting myself 🤦
So,I recently purchased the canon EOS R 5( new),, but when I went to the Canon edge website to register my camera ,, it said my Camera's WARRANTY will expire in 3 months!!! Anybody explain HOW?? PLEASE explain sir,, please

Best explanation I have ever seen on Clarity!! As a teacher myself, you're a great teacher!!

Great information! Loved the explination with the black and white bars

Negative clarity is great from smoothing out skin tone variations. It is used in the included LRC skin preset
Great video, really appreciate the thorough info

A very helpful video - thanks 🙏

Enjoying your videos as you are very clear in explaining things. At 68 I need that😆
Thank you so much for sharing your value experiences, its very helpful to me.
What a great video
Great tips! Thanks!!
I’ve been using negative clarity lately on faces to soften people’s skin and overall look.

Todd great vid but I think you need a roll off on bass frequencies of your narration, it causes inconsistent volume levels of your voice.
