I have to say that in the Russian empire duel tradition duelists were using LePage. Famous poet and duelist Pushkin, who had been killed in one of his duels, wrote the words: " He tells the servant to carry fatal Lepages after him" and then: "The guns are flashing, and a hammer rattles on a ramrod". - Evgeny Onegin, 1833. So, I think he knew what he was writing about.
The joy in his face the whole time he was loading that pistol and firing it was inspiring it just goes to show how happy you can be when you're doing something you love I feel the same Joy when loading and shooting my Uberti 51 navy london
An elegant video for an elegant pistol. Truly a gentleman's pistol. You are a terrific shot sir! I appreciate your videos for their unique content and production value. Please continue!
I must say that I have watched so many of your videos again and again - with great pleasure. I even confess that you may have influenced my decision making in terms of acquisitions. Either that or we just seem to share many views and tastes regarding cap and ball. Many greetings from Germany and good shooting for you and the Hungarian team.
Hi guy i'm a french shooter. after 4 years of stop shooting i decided to come back in this fabulous sport but black powder only. I will receve my lepage pedersoli in .44 inch in few day and i hope have the same result than you with your .36 inch. Thanks for your videos, this is after seeing your videos I decided to return to this sport. The video was on enfield pedersoli 1853. Thanks mica.
Just purchased my first book pistol, a Pedersoli Le-Page in .44cal. I have to admit that my choice of pistol was influenced by these videos 😎 If you have time (or have you already done) an introduction to shooting these types of pistols. Correct way to hold the pistol, developing loads etc. After my first session at the range , my shots were very inconsistent. I’m not a beginner at pistol shooting, as I have been shooting air pistol in pistol leagues for past couple of years 🤪
I just ran across your Channel excellent it's great to hear somebody that deals with and uses pedersoli weapons I purchase one twenty-six years ago black powder Sharps 45 thought I was a lone stranger till I started watching your videos great job man
Just a quick note to say I truly enjoy your videos. Very well done, excellent camera work, and quite nicely narrated. Thank you for such an interesting channel!
Excellent. I don't own a pistol yet, but I do own the Pedersoli Brown Bess, Deluxe Frontier in Flintlock in 50 cal and the Jager Target in 54 cal, also Flintlock.
Ive never fired a ball &cap pistol but it looks like it would be fun - most pistols ive fired were .357 mag heavy frame S&W weapins and i had gotten use to the kick and qualified as a expert shot on the range and at work ( armed security officer and aux police off. )
These were weapons from more civilized times, when a disagreement between two men could simply sort out by a ball of lead. In my opinion the Le Page pistol is one of the most elegant pistols from this time period.
@@ironmatic1 😁👍.............and that's why LePage offered a "wax bullet dueling pistol practice set" in the early 1900s, which was compatible with ^this type of gun, from 8mm through 11mm caliber. The round, black, wax "bullets" were powered by a special cartridge case with a large primer compartment, where you'd drop in a special, enlarged primer, then set the wax bullet into the front end of the special cartridge case. There was NO additional powder or propellant. Just the enlarged primer. The kit also contained 2 special fencing-style safety masks with a square, glass lens to protect the eyes, and 2 metal hand guards like you see on the handle of a fencing sword, but it screws onto the front of the pistol's trigger guard, so your entire hand is shielded as you practice-duel with a buddy who's shooting back at you with wax bullets. th-cam.com/video/KWlAIcwxxD0/w-d-xo.html
Love Your videos!! Please do a video about load Development an adjusting sights for black powder weapons.Allways Nice to see and hear New ways to solve this mystery
Nice video, and great pistol. Bought mine 30 + years ago when it was 390 German Marks, sadly sold it before moving to the USA, and they are around $1000.00 now days would really like to have one again. Just not much in the way of competition shooting here as it was with the clubs in Germany I belonged to.
I recently got to fire these in a duelling competition and had a great deal of fun. In time the trigger was so light than two experienced shooters blew a hole in the table.. so practice and a screwdriver required. Otherwise a genuine pleasure to shoot.
Excellent video, as always, thank you. You've inspired me to get back into the shooting game, now I have to consider Le Page vs Remington 1858 target vs the Carleton!
Beautiful pistol. Pedersoli makes such eye catching pieces. 700-800 Euros is quite pricey. That's a tick under $1100 to over $1200 here in Canada. For my tighter budget, if I was to go for a Pedersoli (which I sincerely hope to do) I'd probably have to aim for perhaps a Kentucky or Navy Moll model. Considerably cheaper ($323 to $475, respectively) and no less attractive in looks. Thanks for sharing.
How's the flint version? i've been looking at se services and models IX and XIII, or pistols of the 1805-ish era, but i understand i need something else if i ever want to hit the target from 10 meters and upwards...
My first BP pistol also I didn’t know how good I had it. Sold it and haven’t found anything as accurate since then. Now I’m going have drop serious dollar for another
This is indeed a beautiful pistol. I always wanted a Le Page but couldn't decide what caliber is the best for my purposes (.31, .36, .44 or even .45???) I decided to buy one in .36 caliber now. I think this is the best choice for me, because it's a very fast load.
Chris King: making 13 excellent shots in 30 minutes is a hard job... I can do 6-7 good shots with a pistol, but scoring 13 good ones is a gerat challenge for me. I am better with a rifle. My favourite disciplin is Vetterli replica. Here the scores are always the highest. Last year I was 6th on the European Championships in Eisenstadt with 98, but the first 4 shooters scored 100. My Slovakian friend Vladimir Jurza was 4th with a clean 100... Imagine that feeling... Not winninig a medal with an excellent result like this. But last week we were competing again, because winning is only one factor in this sport. The best part is being there in the firing line. :)
Nice video for teaching how to use it! I have a same structure gun as yours, but I can't use it because i don't know what did you use for the hammer or bolster position. Could you tell me how to make it? or where can i buy it to use? Thank you ! and I am looking forward to your more excellent videos!
Very nice firearm!! My greatest passion is muzzle loaders and flintlock firearms (basically everything from the late Age of Sail).. But duelling pistols are the vert pinpoint of the obssession.. How can a real man who has balls and code of honor not fancy the idea of an honest duel to settle a dispute of honor?! And since men obssessed with weapons then set of duelling pistols has to be at the top.. After them go hunting muskets and such..
Thanks! In fact since the last 5 years I have became a rifle shooter, but now I am thinking about restarting pistol shooting on international level. Will see if I can make the team for this years World Championships.
***** Good luck on that venture, & that was a damn good grouping; it always takes time to save up for that special something but well worth it! Cheers from Oz.
I like my Le Page in 44, but it was worn and the screws gave way after each shot. The rear sight was going slowly down and the trigger began to creep more and more. in an ongoing match. i was about to quit until i found the reason and fix it with locktite.
And guns before 1870 and black powder mostly doesnt need any license in germany but you can only shoot in shooting places not in the woods or any random place
In your opinion is the Le Page a better target pistol vs. the Pedersoli Mortimer model? I'm torn between the two, and neither is readily available for me to handle locally, so I will be special ordering one or the other. Thanks!
I’m in the same boat, cant decide on the Pedersoli Le Page or the Mortimer. I think the deciding factor will be availability and price. Not seen a Mortimer for sale this past year (other tan new on Kranks website)
I wanted to get a nice starter pistol like this! Then a video confused me (not one of yours) so can you tell me on a scale of 1 to 10 how much kickback there is on this gun? I used to have a slight understanding of the caliber ratio but the video messed it up.

“More civilized times,” where said man could not get very good medical treatment for the wound from a ball of lead.
As much as I love the era, I don’t think blasting each other’s guts and brains out with pistols is particularly civilised.
