If marking the gift as purchased does the parents know? I want it to be a surprise but also don’t want other members of her family to buy what I have

Yes. The parents get a report of every gift that's been purchased and by who - if they are monitoring it closely. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to make it a surprise.
