Thank you so much for this video, I was having a nightmare with my door mechanism and ended up taking the door skin on and off a couple of times due to not working out what exactly the problem was and the door handle not sitting right to the door afterwards. Found your video and attempted it one last time having watched this and realised where I went wrong! So thank you so much mate 🙏🏻
Excellent explanation of how the door latch works, which helped me out when getting the latch back on after changing the driver's side window regulator. Thanks.
I was ready to order a new one after I took the skin off my 07 Rabbit door and saw that the spring had popped and everything was loose. This video saved me money. Thank You!
Super - didn't realise this with my Passat CC - similar set-up, but no cable directly attached to the handle. Pre-setting (BEFORE installing back in the door with the new accompanying electromechanical door lock part 26A- 5N2 837 016C) by turning out the Torx20 adjusting screw exactly 12 turns allows the sprung piece to be locked in so the handle can catch it from the outside of the door once it has been installed. I missed this bit initially! Once the door handle is installed continue to keep it pulled out while you install the lock cylinder and then secure the lock cylinder with the other T20 screw, then turn the other T20 adjusting screw all the way back in and the sprung piece will then pull the handle back in and all is done!
Thank you so much for this video, this has helped me loads. That round bracket was missing from my door after I had taken it to get fixed at a garage. I guess the struggled with the same and never knew how to put it back in. They did end up fixing the door but that only lasted 2 weeks before it gave up again. I made it my mission to learn how to fix it myself. Coming across this video has helped me figure out the problem when I got the panel out. That bit sprung right off because it never had that round bracket. Awesome video grateful viewer here!
I actually discovered something I bent that bracket that comes out if you turn the screw out too much. It fit snug to the rest. Because it kept coming off when I would screw it in tight. Now it doesn’t come off at all even when you turn the screw out too much. This door handle has been a nightmare
Brilliant explanation, I found out the hard way a couple of years ago when I changed the lock on my rear door. A lot of messing around and trying to figure out how to set the door handle up again after it all came to pieces.
Thanks for video. door handle thumb pad never tight after fitting new lock 18 months ago. Sorted it today with aid of your vid. Ring had dropped off as totally oblivious to how it worked. Nearly siliconed on a few days ago!! 👍👍👍👍😀😀😀
I guess the lock ring fell out the screw, but is there a trick for removing the lock so I can remove that door skin? I have not fully removed the screw yet, but it’s past the 12 turns.
Question, what if the handle is stuck inside… I have a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit and I’m trying to change my actuator for the passenger rear door but the handle won’t come out… how do I get the handle out?
i can't get the little thumb knobs to stay tightened when i assemble the door. I've taken apart and put the door back together like 15 times. it stays tight when this piece is off the car it just keeps popping out of place when i put the door on
Does anyone know if the locking ring for the lock cylinder can be sourced by itself? Mine seems to have disappeared, but I can't locate them anywhere except as part of the handle assembly.
Hi Matt, only option is to remove the door skin. To reassemble it you will have to remove the door skin anyway so fishing out from the door is not worth the hassle since you wont be able to get it back in anyway.
hello I have exactly the same problem as you I lost the screw used to remove the handle I can neither remove the door panel nor remove the handle and in addition to this my door no longer closes you have found a solution ?
mine handle doesn’t slide off? tried to hammer it gently and pull harder not so gently but whatever i did it didnt come off… however the lock suddenly started to work so i put em back together, except the cylinder now falls off ;’D any suggestions to fix that?
I'm in the same boat. Fixed my door that wouldn't open, but the dummy lock won't stay in place. And I can't get the handle off. Seems that black ring has fallen off. I need the handle to come off so I can take the door skin off to look for the black ring.... Have you had any luck yet?
@@ares1000101 yes i eventually found a solution, as when the ring is in place and you turning it 12turns counter clockwise you have to pull the handle so that spring locks in place, but as the ring is now fallen off you cant do that.. so i had to take a long flathead and kept the spring/latch mechanism open by hand while wiggling the handle off, helps if the outerskins bolts are off already so you can reach the mechanism easier
right royal pain in the arse. just came in from trying to refit the lock ring again. thing fell off yet again after it was sat in place waiting for me to fit the barrel.

Nicely explained, this helped me out of a door handle sized hole I was stuck in, thank you so much.

highly detailed and thorough explanation, and demonstration. The door handle sits flush now and my Golf thanks you.

I was tortured a couple of time. not anymore. Thank you very much.
Anyone know how to rescue the situation if you've gone too far and dropped the locking ring into the door?
Hi, you should unscrew and take the door out. There are videos online how to do it
