      @MomokaViixiv a lil counter for ur vi comment, this time it was purely bc isha got into their fights tbh 😅 vi wasnt actively targeting her so it was accidental but it still pointed out vi's weakness all this time, to solve everything with her fist

    Another thing to consider about Isha, is the environment she was being raised in by her found family. All around her, there were people willing to risk their lives, and even sacrifice themselves if they felt it was needed. Jinx was willing to risk her life to keep her and Sevika safe from Warwick, Vi was willing to risk hers to bring Vander back to the surface, and so on. So when the battle was happening, and she witnessed the dire situation they were in, and knew she had a means to make a difference sitting in her pocket, I feel like a part of her just went "Alright, guess it's my turn now."

    Isha was also kind of like an anti-jinx. instead of powder accidentally killing her whole family in a reckless explosion, Isha chooses to save her family through sacrificing herself in an explosion. even the same method as the original monkey-bomb; except this time the crystals are refined, not chaotic and unstable, reflecting their headspaces going into it. powder had just suffered a mental breakdown and wanted to prove herself, whereas Isha saw the situation in front of her, and chose to act knowing the consequence. i know you mentioned that the ability to assess consequence is not fully developed, but Isha unlike jinx did at least process the fact that she would die so they could have a chance to live.
    i hope Isha foreshadows jinx’s journey where she puts her destruction to good use in defeating ambessa and protecting her city. though i don’t know how likely it is

    • @rotwang2000
      @rotwang2000 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

      Arcane is extremely good at working on a very literary level with themes, parallels, callbacks etc. But the master's touch or chef's kiss is the ability to put these into a story which feels very realistic with nuanced characters who don't follow the "paint by numbers" style of writing you see in similar media. Nothing is clear or simple to any character. Life throws all kinds of issues at them and the outcome is rarely clear.
      Isha is the kid who had to become an adult mentally. Jinx gave her actual attention and gave her space to be a kid. But Isha acts whenever there are issues whereas Jinx is far more likely to short circuit. It shows how people can be affected by trauma and issues. Some grow up fast and wise beyond their years, others see the connections in their brains fall apart.

      I think her point is more that a kid's mind isn't developed enough to understand the meaning behind consequences. They can, to some degree, do the math on "If this then that," but fail to grasp the gravity and enormity of what "that" might be. She might have known she would die, but she doesn't have a fully developed understanding of death.

      I think not just anti-Jinx more like a mirror of Powder. The same but opposite reflection. Powder insecure, afraid, and anxious and Isha courageous, confident, and happy. The crystals metaphore is a perfect example. Powder was unrefined like the crystals, while Isha is the refined. Amazing writing and again great use of Duality which defines Arcane as a whole.

    Vander’s apology letter to Silco is the same message that both Vi and Jinx want to say to each other. Vi even turns around and reaches to Jinx but stops herself. In that moment, she had one gauntlet off, whereas with Caitlyn, when she was at her most vulnerable, she dropped both gauntlets off. Vi even looks at Jinx while they walk as though she wants to say something but is afraid to. Like she has one more wall holding herself back.

    Isha is a good representation of Powder and young Vi. Her eyes are neither pink or blue, but yellow. Isha stole Vi’s gemstones from her gauntlets along with Jinx’s gem from her pistol. If you include Viktor’s question about fate, then Isha sacrificing herself is symbolic that Powder was always fated to die. The events of that night with the monkey bomb were always going to happen. But this time, Isha/Powder is somehow okay with it. She reminded Jinx what was good about the life of Powder. She even holds up Jinx’s pistol like the blue flare. Vander returning wasn’t just another chance for the sisters at a life with him, it was another chance at life after he is gone for good.

    What got the most to me is how Isha idolizes Jinx and basically sees her as some sort of personal super hero. She is way too young to understand how complex and morally ambigous Jinx and her actions actually are, she just sees the cool older girl who saved her live and wants to be exactly like that too.

    • @AutumnRose1397

      Your analysis actually helped me. I was sad Isha died but found it difficult to believe that an 8ish year old fully understood mortality/sacrifice (I feel the scene made it seem like she willingly was fine sacrificing herself) Most kids that age don't act that way. Young Jinx/powder didn't think through her actions/consequences. But this kind of explains it since Isha did mimic Jinx's hand gun motion. However, do you think Isha closing her eyes was her accepting death or more just not wanting to see Vander hurt?

      Isha got a lot of attention from Jinx. That's huge for a kid. Especially when things are bad in Zaun and she's forced to live in the margins.
      She is the straight man to Jinx, but also the mature offset, despite her age. She gets responsibility, symbolism and has a very deep and mature understanding of things. It leads me to think she had some really fine parents who gave her important life lessons.
      But she's also a child, so she also leans on Jinx to give her that chance to be just a kid who can play without responsibility. She happily fills in the blanks on Jinx in exchange for that chance to be just a kid.

      Ironicly, it could be this may come to help Jinx heal. Twice this season (First against Vi, then against Vander) Jinx has not only resigned herself to death, but actually wanted it. She does not believe her life has any value. Now, she has proof someone else does think her life is valuable So much so she gave up hers to save it. This could be the first step to getting Jinx to finally accept life is worth living and drive her to stay alive so Isha's death wasn't for nothing.

  • @Hey-Its-Dingo
    @Hey-Its-Dingo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +70

    A big thing that happened, which was fully unconscious, is that Jinx actually fused what she learned from Vander with how Silco raised her when she was living with Isha. She intentionally taught Isha how to never let anyone stop you from doing what you need to do to get what you want, just like Silco raised Jinx, but she unconsciously also taught Isha to always protect and support someone you truly care about, like Vander taught all of the kids in Act 1. Unfortunately, those lessons are a very dangerous combo when what you want more than anything is to protect the one you love.

    Took her to hunt down her werewolf dad and to a weird unknown cult in the ghetto.

      @@Elixir6336 this was absolutely one of the things I picked up on in act 2 almost immediately. Jinx was absolutely unconditionally accepting of Isha, no matter what she did. Even after the prison break scene, she never once scolded Isha. It doesn’t matter if she is Powder or Jinx, Isha just wants to protect and love the one who protects and loves her. Jinx is also definitely is giving Isha the treatment she wished she had when she was young, unconditional love and acceptance. I wonder if how things would have went if Vi and Powder had a relationship like Jinx and Isha back then.

      that’s so true. powder looked up to vi and wanted to be like her, but the way vi went about it wasn’t necessarily the best way to handle it with her. albeit she was a young teenager [i believe younger than jinx is in the show] who was trying to help vander raise three kids but she was doing the best way she knew how, which isn’t wrong. she was trying to instill independence, which was how she was raised and what worked for her. she was raising jinx the way she was raised. jinx handled isha the way she wanted to be handled when she still went by powder. saying and doing the things she wanted to hear and be treated like

    • @motionlesskilljoy
      @motionlesskilljoy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      This was my immediate reaction to that particular scene as well and you could immediately tell that Vi's emotions were consuming her in that moment of anger and of frustration and you could clearly see just how much she had tragically regressed emotionally after Caitlyn abandoned her at the end of act one, and it was quite sad, because even though Vi had learned so much compassion and had lived with so much guilt that she had worked to overcome, she became uninhibited once she felt that everyone that she had ever loved had abandoned her as well, practically mirroring Jinx's own reasons to descend into her own madness except from a different perspective and processed in a different way. It really came to show the cyclical perpetuation of trauma and in her gaze, you could truly see just how much that realization was able to register because she was echoing many of her own past actions and her challenges had made her lose reason. So much of her own self-loathing came through and she was horrified with herself and even though the act of hitting her was instinctual, she still had no sense of restraint or even cognizance in that moment. It was sad for all parties involved.

    In the intro, Jinx references the play Les Miserables by waving a large flag to symbolize her leading a new rebellion. It should also be noted that in the play, a child who has joined the rebellion named Gavroche who bravely steps out to try and help the revolutionaries by collecting cartridges (ammo) that were on the dead bodies outside the barricade, and as a result, he is shot and killed. Isha, with her trying to help the revolution by pushing Jinx and acting as her in Act 2, along with collecting bullets for the gun to protect Jinx, is a direct reference to Les Mis :(

    Everyone's been talking about Isha being a little Powder, even Jinx, but something you said sparked a thought for me. You mentioned how even though she's scared, she'll fight to protect the people she cares about. That wasn't Powder...Powder ran away during that first fight in the alleyway after the heist, she was scared and she ran, which was understandable, she was a little kid. Isha isn't a little Powder, she's a little Vi. That seems especially clear when she jumps on the Zangief lookin' dude and head butts him, and even when she takes up Jinx's mantle to help and inspire the people of Zaun. Vi was the one who was gung-ho about revolution and had to be reigned in by Vander. Even now Jinx is reluctant to take on that role.

    If it had been Warwick, an accident or anything else I would have been filled with anger and and desire for revenge. But instead, I just feel broken and unwell and I think the writers did that on purpose.
    I'm crushed for Jinx. She had a person that grounded her. She got both her sister and surrogate father back. We only saw her talking to herself and the hallucinations for a moment when she learned Isha got captured. Seeing her sacrifice is probably the emotional springboard that will send her right back into madness.

    It might be a stretch, but Warwick could also be a representation of Vi’s rage. Since, she has to remember to stop fighting like Vander told her, (and trust her sister) in order to embrace him again.
    Edit: And even more so, along with her rage, Vi needs to choose to stop her self destructive coping habits in front of Warwick, to fight until she wins or is defeated, or to give into love again and embrace what’s in front of her.

      But ngl, every acts in the show starts with an elypsis and a sum up of what happend during, so i guess next episode, first from act3, won't break the rule and will take place like a few days after the events :/

    Jinx was doing her best to be Vi, the role reversal is brilliant. Jinx treated Isha like she wanted Vi to treat her as they grew up. She makes the same mistakes we make as Responsible Parents. We make mistakes and then let our children get away with too much due to our guilt. It goes to show how much Vi cared. It's hard to be the bad guy to the children we live the most but it's necessary.

    While losing Isha and Vander in one shot (pardon the pun) is tragic in itself….it is also a much darker, and poetic moment at the same time.
    Vander was fully aware of what was going on when Warwick was on the rampage….but like a passenger in a car, he was completely unable to control it when it was happening. Imagine being in that situation where you see the carnage “you” are causing, and being 100% helpless to stop it. So when Isha pulled the trigger….she was doing Vander a kindness.

  • @geminihero
    @geminihero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    My theory is isha was not just doing it to protect jinx…. she wanted to protect the family that she did not want to lose. I mean she was an orphan on the streets and no one probably showed her any compassion or love, or any type of affection, and then jinx comes around and plays the part of a mother, a big sister, and a friend all rolled into one…. what is also a role model a symbol of strength and independence which is something she didn’t have in her life that she probably came to moments of feeling weak and unimportant. And with Vi and Caitlin…. She probably feels that she has an even bigger family that’s important to her so I feel like she sacrificed herself not just protect them but also because in her mind and heart, she was doing what she thought jinx would’ve done if she was not injured. Performing the most noble reason people will sacrifice themselves for the people they love.
    That being said, though, I can’t help but wonder how this will react with Caitlin. Part of her anger was wanting to take revenge on jinx for taking away someone very important to her so seeing what happened will it subdue her rage….. or will she feel that now that jinx has lost someone she loves they are even.

    23:15 "We end up losing Vander..." I think it would be more accurate or positive to say that we end up losing Warwick - Singed said that Viktor's power was finite, and with him apparently gone as the result of Jayce's actions, the chance to save Vander was gone as well, leaving only Warwick behind. This way it doesn't sound like Isha killed Vander, but rather saved Jinx from Warwick after she saw that Vi and Caitlyn were unable to help.

    As a writer, there's so many things about Act II that completely blew my mind. I expected Isha's sacrifice for many reasons, but it's mostly necessary for Jinx's character arc. And, as much as I loved Isha's character, I think she completed her goal. She reminded Jinx of Powder and, in a way, reconnected her with Vi too. I feel like she taught Jinx to care for someone and protect them, the same way Vi tried. Like you said, Isha was a mini Jinx in many ways, and that, I hope, will bring Jinx closer to understanding Vi. The parallels are there, and I hope they don't go unnoticed. How Vi's nature is always to protect her sister, and she's finally seeing Jinx as her sister as well, which is a huge difference from Act I. But a lot of times people judge Vi (and i do think Act III will be more centered on Vi) and even Jinx herself, and through their interactions in this Act we see more of Jinx being hopeful that they can be a family again. Man, just the way Vi held Jinx back from running after Isha because she will always protect her. There's still a lot to go but I do hope that, once Jinx comes back from the grief, she'll be there with and for Vi.

  • @djbreakfastca
    @djbreakfastca 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

    I firmly believe that Isha isn't dead, simply because of 2 of the golden rules of screenwriting which is 1. Always leave the viewer on a cliffhanger, and 2. if you don't see a character die ON screen chances are very likely they aren't.
    Also let's not forget about Ekko and Heimer here, they are still out there somewhere and you will notice just as the explosion goes off in the end, it kind of "freezes" for a second just before it cuts to the credits and to me that suggests some sort of time manipulation, which very much is Ekko's thing. I could be wrong of course, but in terms of the story and the way everyone got distracted by Isha's sacrifice, this is just the perfect moment to reintroduce them, it would fit the story too since Jayce destroying the could be the thing that breaks them free of the anomaly, in the same way as everyone that was already being healed or cared for by Victor dies or reverts back whatever condition they were in before he healed them. Let's see.
    I will say this about season 2 though, as amazing as i think it is and has been so far, i really feel like Riot and Fortiche has given themselves a mountain to climb these last 3 episodes because there is just SO much stuff going on currently, that they need to tie up, too much perhaps. For example, Mel and the whole Black Rose arc, as excited as i am about the Black Rose (because their lore is really awesome) i just feel like it doesn't really fit in super well with all the rest going on in this season, and only seem to confuse people even more, especially for viewers that aren't familiar with the lore of the game, and that is a bit of a shame.

    • @PillowEgg
      @PillowEgg 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Powder used unstable crystals. Isha did not. Fortiche makes a characters death sudden, unexpected like Clagger and Milo. There was too much build up and anticipation for her expected demise especially with certain themes like sacrifice and Isha entering the scene when Sevika says “You can’t live in this fantasy forever, creating foreshadow. But if the logic is sound despite the emotional expectation that she will die. Fortiche has to make a good satisfying ending. It seems like her sacrificing herself makes it feel the more emptier and grim. A future without Isha, then what’s the point of Zaun for the viewer.

      Yeah I was thinking about how much is going on but I trust the creators to pull it off. The Black Rose part is right now a mystery for those who aren't familiar with the game. I friend of mine thinks it's some kind of demonic entity Ambessa made a deal with which to be fair is not crazy to think it is seeing all the imaginery going on with it.

    • @djbreakfastca
      @djbreakfastca 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rociopaoloni5080 I trust them to pull it off too, but there is still just so much going on and they would need to wrap up stories from Mel, Jayce, Heimerdinger, Ekko, Ambessa, Caitlyn, Singed, Vi and of course Jinx. And does Isha die? Does Warwick survive? What about Viktor, what happens to him.
      I think what they could be doing is using the Black Rose arc as a setup for the future stories in the universe. I for one would love to see a "Arcane" story set in the world of Noxus, which most likely also would include Demacia in some capacity, i think that could be really awesome. But let's see what they do with these last 3 episodes :)

    I wonder if Vi’s three rules she learned from Vander about trust have to do with two things. One, her “shut up” lesson to Mylo. And two, her lesson to Caitlyn about “letting people think you have what they want.”
    “See this look on my face? This will always mean it’s time to shut up.” So, Vi saw something in Caitlyn’s face to know she could trust her sincerity? Vi also seemed to see something in Jinx’s tearful eyes to know she was telling the truth about Vander being alive. And looking back, Vi does tend to let her opponents talk and talk while she listens and plans her next move. Like with Silco outside her old house, or when Ekko kidnapped and interrogated her, or when Caitlyn implores Ekko to give back the gemstone.

  • @shannon3315

    Coming over from Nebula to comment: Arcane always leaves us with a lot of “…if only” situations, where we are presented with all the things we need in order to see what the survivors of a tragedy are going to regret, and the actions that those regrets will lead to. This one pulled out all the stops, bringing in so many different characters and relationships into a great big “I wish you (or I) had not done that.”
    I immediately wished Vi had more effectively disarmed Ambessa in this fight (“disarming” Ambessa is itself an exercise is regret, since she is incredibly powerful and easy to underestimate even if you are very convinced that she’s dangerous). I’m assuming that what we’re going to learn is that Vi didn’t want to kill someone, and that this is going to lead to a crisis of conscience where she has to wonder what the limits are when it comes to killing someone that wants to kill so many others.

    An additional layer to the heartbreak of the scene with Isha’s sacrifice is the song itself-- such a fitting and amazing choice to have it be in another language (chinese) because it adds such a poignant layer to Isha being mute; she didnt speak/“speak the same language”, but yetvher actions and feelings were so clear, just as the emotions of the song are. You dont need words to understand.
    And then…… if you look up the translated lyrics…..
    Oh how it breaks your heart all over again. The lyrics were akin to Isha’s final hopes and wishes for Jinx. What she would want for her.
    From the refrain:
    “Blow away the dark clouds
    With that blue in my heart
    Even if the world is full of desolation
    We can lift our hеads up and see the moon”
    The chorus:
    “When we arе still in the guise of children
    As one among millions, still must blossom into a solitary and splendid flower
    Don't wander in troubles anymore
    Don't forget
    Even if the tears flow, keep running forward
    Run until even time cannot be found
    Be a carefree flying bird”
    It’s a whole new layer of heartache. Jinx had told her that having Isha in her life was like seeing clearly for the first time. Isha feels she has to go away to save her but she wants Jinx to not only survive but to truly LIVE
    GUYS I AM NOT OKAY

    The pause you had to take at 20:30 was the realest thing I've ever seen in a TH-cam video. Normally people have a script, and they are reading it along the video or memorize it, but it sometimes feels too mechanical. But your explanation for why she felt like sacrificing herself for the people that she loves and the family that she made, especially Jinx, was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in a while.
    I was kinda angry at Isha for taking that decision because Jinx and Vi were getting everything they deserve, which is happiness and their family brought together once again, and a new family member. This is going to make Jinx (even after her sacrifice) a better person in general, and it's going to make her happier.
    But after all Isha was a top tier character for me, said one word in 6 episodes, and it was Pew. I felt like I was watching Powder once again and Jinx was trying to help her and protect her, their relationship was so good, it hit really close to home, i think that's the reason I loved it so much.
    Loved your video, loved your explanation, made me cried a lot,
    Thank you for this experience.
