    At least you got the cutting edges. Nowadays, nobody has anything. It’s “sorry sir, we’re out but we can order it for you, but not sure when we’ll get it”. You’re right about the prices too. Every SOB has to add a little and it winds up being double.
    Our economy crash hasn’t even got started either and people are gonna be shocked come Christmas time.

    No way those cutting edges are off. They bent and punched them on the latest and greatest Cnc machines that any person that can hit the go button can operate. 😂 We fired the quality control guy cuz with Cnc we don’t need it. Never mind that chunk of sheared off scrap that fell in the end that skewed every piece out of whack. It’s a Cnc everything comes out perfect. We got the iso 9000 sticker to prove it!! 😅

    Jeff, back in the day when I had equipment I used IPD or APD (can’t remember which it is)for cutting edges. Great quality, prices and good service. Had a 14G and Gallion 50tm for support. These guys made custom edges for loaders and replacement for excavator buckets. Teeth also. Don’t know if they are still around, but google them. Great video. And here in Calif we call it hard blading when we finish off for pavement. Good luck. Stay safety

    I be never seen one man have such bad luck with cutting edges than you my friend. Is it just your dealer switching from cat to an off brand and not telling all of you? Down here in SF Bay Area we have a few dealers doing the switch a roni, but after they get caught once they usually don’t sell Any more and learn their lesson. It seams to be the usual method in your area. I switched to IPD in SF Bay Area and Sacramento area down to Fresno area. Not a bad one yet in many years. When I put base rock in subdivisions I used to blade the rock about 3/4 to an inch high so when the curb machine lay the curb it would grub out that inch to grade and lay the concrete on grade. I assume your curb machine will run off a string line set at grade. If the curb machine isn't grubbing out anything that means the base is low which in turn means more concrete which in turn means an ass chewing for the blade man. It's all a vicious circle. Lol
    Our base rock is limestone. Used to get in from a pugmill which basically just a mill that mixes water with the fines. Gets harder than a wedding dick !! BTW, the M series graders are like running a Cadillac. Dang they are nice. Everything operates from the two joysticks 🕹

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      they did a virtual stringline, laser and gps is what they will use, our grade is a 2% slope to center so where the curb lays it should be about twentyfive hundreths high

    I wouldn't put it past a dealer to sell alibaba parts as OE, especially with the current product shortage. I've seen local auto dealers do it. On the other hand, there's labor shortage in some manufacturing which might cause crappy production. Either way it sucks..

    A few years ago I was on a Pipeline job running dozer, one Saturday the super came up and said you're fixing this farmer's driveway with the grader, 8 feet wide and it was a 872 Deere with fingertip controls, I had only run two days the year before plowing snow, the trucks came and tried to tail spread their loads what a disaster, I was all chasing that material with the super saying don't put none on the grass and make it do the whole quarter mile driveway. That day sucked

    Cat will never tell you, but my money says they “Out Sourced” grader blade edges. Inspection and out sourcing were never used together. I agree its too easy to drop the grader blade to keep material flowing. You don’t know satisfying it is to see no light under that blade and very little movement. I regret now that I used my Galion 118 more like a dozer than the motor patrol it was designed to be.

    Nice video. Here in San Diego the concrete guys want the curb grade about an inch and a half fat for the curb machine. They always dry run curb the machine prior to mud to make sure everything cuts nice. Then when mud shows up, everyone knows the grade is good to go. Good peace of mind and time well spent. Usually we don't spend to much time on the center of road since we know it needs to get touched up and curbs backfilled to make ready for asphalt. Have fun!

    Thanks, Jeff, loved the video. Working for a rental company years ago, I changed a lot of abused cutting edges. I never saw them misalign that badly.

    That has to be irritating to spend your Saturday to get all the curb grade done. Then they pull curb machine off the job. Change order coming. At least you have your compaction test to back you up. Way back when I ran a water truck Worley Construction had 6 ginny hoppers running in front of the fat tired 14G. We specialized in subdivisions. Underground to blue top. And finished pads.
    Loved the tunes.

      Pavement is only two 12ft lanes, then the 1ft ribbon curb, by the time you lay out the crushed gravel for the curb the whole road is covered
