I am an Oregonian who wants to thank you David Johnson for the time and effort you have spent working with owls in Umatilla. I wish you strength and peace to overcome your health diagnosis so you can continue working more with the owls.
I'm in Southern California. We've had a great horned owl hanging around our house for months but a few weeks ago I saw him hanging out on our satellite dish. He loves to sit up there surveying his domain. It feels absolutely magical and special that he has chosen our house and he is here nearly every day. At first I was worried about him with our dogs but he is just fascinated by them and watches them run back and forth in our yard. It feels peaceful when he is on his perch - like he is watching over us.... Plus - he looks after any rodents nearby too.
Johnston is a real saint to be involved in the rehab of owls (mom as a little girl rescued an owl in Willows, Ca. Fed it dog-food!). Such magical creatures. Thanks David!
Amazing!!! Thank you to this gentleman...What a great example/role model of taking an active role in his purpose in giving back to this world & teaching the future to carry on the purpose...Blessings to you, your human family/team, & Owl family!!!
What an incredible project David has dedicated himself to. I myself got hooked on Owls last summer when I saw one on a hike I do regularly. I immediately dove into both birding and wildlife photography and have seen over 3 dozen Owls in many different locations in what is almost 1 full year now. Wishing David all the best in his fight against cancer.
I love owls. I get so thrilled when I hear a Great Horned Owl in my neighborhood at night. I too, am so drawn to them. I don’t quite understand why. It’s wonderful ❤
I moved to my current home 25 years ago and have had owls in the small forrest behind my house on and off for that time. Sometimes they sit in the trees where I can see them.I was once working at my desk and looked up to see an owl sitting in a tree, checking me out. It was a little unnerving but cool. Owls are wonderful fascinating creatures. Thank you so much Mr. Johnson.
One question is the effect of the residual chemicals such as sarin gas on Johnson’s health as well as the health of the owls who are burrowing in the ground that may still be contaminated. Is Johnson’s cancer related to the residual chemicals in the soil in that area. Also, now that the land is being managed by a Native American tribe, what are possible health effects on that community?
The chemicals have been completed incinerated for over a decade now. Air monitoring stations were placed all around the depot. Not a single mishap as far as I’m aware of.
These are the types of stories they should focus on, instead of celebrities. There are so many more amazing, interesting people to know out there who aren't famous.
Although I haven’t seen the owls, it’s a comfort and a gift to hear one “whoo-ing” in the trees at night outside my bedroom window as if it’s on spiritual watch.🦉
What an important story and beautiful person. Thank you for spotlighting this story, CBS. It gave me a tangible sense of hope and gratitude for our fascinating world and the good people here. Sending best wishes for health and wellness to David Johnson! ❤
As a child, I had a screech owl as a pet for a short time. My comment is that in the segment, the makers added the sound of the Barred Owl flying. There is no way an owl would make that sound in flight. They are the original stealth flyers, and do not make any sound in flight.
Excellent story, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your videos of these beautiful and mysterious birds. You have left an incredible mark upon the world, the lives of these owls; the Indian tribes will forever remember you in their history, as will every owl lover, for all that you have done. Best wishes David for healing and a full recovery. Stay strong my friend.
I was sitting in a deer stand in a tree. One day out of the corner of my eye I caught a movement, I slowly turned my head to see within 5 feet of me a owl had just landed there! That’s what I enjoyed more than anything!
I have always been-fascinated owls myself,I used to collect them, porcelain ones ,stiffed ones ,a friend of mine actually found a rock that looked like an owl and gave it to ne when we were all on a camping trip. Many years ago imhsd a barn owl that was perched on my fence for weeks when I drove to work, there’s a mysterious wo about them .
Have a nest of barn owls in a palm tree in front. Third generation to nest here. There are a lot of mice around here, so they are content to stay. Very noisy at night, though. The adults sound a little bit like hawks, with their screeching, etc.
I've only seen an owl one time in my life and it wasn't even a clear view. Because of just how quiet their wings are and how elusive they are. I was going down this pathway by the water in the city. And I had seen this owl swoop down and pretty sure it caught a rat. Because the area is filled with them. Even tho I didn't get a clear view or even get to see it's face. Still was one of the coolest moments because you don't run into an owl every day.

A week with Joe Dispenza yields many reports 🧡
“There are two important days in your life- the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

Owl's eyes seem to look through your soul. Almost supernatural in some ways.
A hero for owls and the earth. Hoping your stage 4 is in the rear view mirror very, very soon. Thanks for what you do.
