To be honest, even if Die Hard didn't have all that bad stuff in it, I would still think this dude was just trying to make it about himself looking cool instead of making it about Jesus.
I am so tired of pastors of so called “seeker sensitive” churches justifying becoming like the world in order to draw people to Jesus. It’s wrong. Jesus told us to go out and preach the word, not build a mega church to draw people in. We left our church because of this to find one that truly values the word and discipleship. In their Christmas service, they read the story straight from the Bible with no theatrics. And you know what? Lives are still changed. The power of the word transcends us. We don’t need stripper angels doing acrobatics in the air to make it relevant. May the word of the Lord bring you peace as we navigate 2025!
My church is starting to head that direction. But it's OK, say the pastors, they're not "seeker sensitive," they just want to make new Christians comfortable in our church! We shouldn't have a "church subculture" that new Christians have to adapt to, they said. The older Christians need to "grow their consciences" to accept this, or if they're not comfortable, they can leave. 😢
Well they want to draw people in so they can increase the tithing. People actually do want a Savior but they also want the worldly entertainment so this type of service becomes very appealing. What they don't want is Jesus as their Lord
@sharoncrawford7192 That's what our church used to be! It grew too large, then expanded the building, then grew some more... Why the pastors think they need to change things, I don't know. I do know there's pressure on them from some of the people. But there are soooo many places those people can go if they want the worshiptainment experience. Why do they have to ruin our church? It's like the people who move out of California or New York, then vote for the same policies where they now live that ruined their previous state! But they never see it, that their philosophies are wrong. 😥

My wife and I went to a Christmas service at our friend's church, and the entire service was a theatrical production w/ a different person who told the story of the EVENT of Jesus' birth from the inn keeper's point of view, a person on the streets of Bethlehem's point of view, a donkey's point of view and some other point of view. Nothing - absolutely nothing - about the reason for the birth, the fulfillment of any OT prophecies or anything like that. And then at the end the "pastor" came out and gave a 10 min. monologue on how he probably would have reacted had he been there. I actually felt guilty going to that and when I got home I apologized to God for going to that service and promised I would never go back again.
Prophecy makes clear so many will be deceived. Even so,... as you watch people soak up things like you and this video describe,... and shows like the "chosen", etc,... it is surreal to see it happening in real time. Thank you Lord for sealing us with your Holy Spirit! Amen!

I went to a “Church” in the late 90s that was established as a Bible believing solid church. It had about 600 people attend weekly. About 3 years in the leadership decided to go with the “seeker” method of giving people entertainment in order to boost sales, I mean numbers of people coming through the door. My wife and I met with the lead Pastor to discuss what we saw as a slippery slope. His words were “the church service is not for you folks, if you don’t want to get on board with what we are doing, you should look for another church”. We did and I have no regrets. That church now has thousands attending every weekend and what they call satellite locations where the Pastor is live streamed. I occasionally run into people who say they attend and usually am surprised at how worldly that person behaves.
The church keeps failing to realize that our God-given freedom isn’t just the freedom to do a thing but also, the freedom to not do a thing. Embarrassing.
Church isn't supposed to be about entertainment . If you want that go to a movie or show. To many boys in the pulpit when there's supposed to be men of God!

The goofiest thing thats happened at the church I work at is the pastor thought it would be a good idea to have "Pajama Day" because Christmas landed on a Sunday. I wore regular clothes but with a thick robe as my jacket. What the pastor didn't foresee was everyone taking pictures of him in his pajamas (with the open fly & everything lol). He was portrayed as a doofus and he was embarrassed. Another preacher (in 1999) at another church I attended thought it would be hilarious to show up to a pig roast in a grass skirt and coconut shell bra (with his toenails painted to round out the stupidity). I understand people make dumb mistakes (I do all the time) but when you're the leader of (essentially anything) a church, you really need to just stick to preaching the word, praying, and being a good, God fearing and loving leader. You can literally lose all respect in an instant.

A couple of years ago in the mail (around Halloween) I got an invite for a church who was using the evil show Stranger Things as a way to lure people in to talk about Jesus and His His mystery and miracles. They literally used the ST logo. I got on Google and let them have it. Still makes me mad. Christians should have very little to do with secular movies, TV and music. 95% of it is based off sin. The only R rated movie we should have is the Passion of the Christ, if you choose to own it.
I agree that Christians should have little to do with secular entertainment. The only problem is that most of our "Christian" entertainment is owned, operated and controlled by secular entities, such as the Christian music industry, for example.
I think I'd take the bad words from die hard over the blasphemy of passion of the christ. It's a movie written by a catholic that has an actor pretending to be God and wrongly emphasizes the physical suffering of Christ and blatantly adds to the Bible.

If my memory serves me correctly, in Proverbs we read that there are ways that seem right to a man, but in the end they lead to death. This then begs the question if the Die Hard illustration is an example of this.
That was the church that I once attended about 15 years ago. My sister still attended until this past year. I’m so thankful that the Lord opened my eyes to what a true biblical church looks like that preaches expository messages in context and glorifies Christ.
The pastor of a church I attended did a Christmas movie every year. One year was, "The Christmas Story", another year, "The Muppets Christmas". That pastor now works at a Christian college.
This reminds me of a “church” a friend and I went to on Good Friday. The service was more like a community theater show rather than a holy day to revere. I promptly got up and said to her, not caring who heard, “we’re going to a real church”

Oh yeah, I saw that. It’s really gross. Should women preach? As far as Die Hard Christmas, I’ve never seen it, but even I know he misquoted a the lines when he was in the air ducts. How about using the actual Bible to preach from? Not only that, but we still have brilliant pastors some of whom wrote books about the Bible, references, studys, commentaries, etc. There is absolutely NO REASON In this world that ANYONE should use material from the world to teach the things Christ was desperate for us to know. There can be no correlation between the two. Jesus was not of this world, and His teachings were otherworldly, so why wouldn’t a pastor use the supernaturally written WORD OF GOD to teach and feed the sheep. They are failing and they don’t even care. They want their fame and their fortune, whatever that is, and whatever comes with it. We are in the last days. Keep watch.

The goofiest thing thats happened at the church I work at is the pastor thought it would be a good idea to have "Pajama Day" because Christmas landed on a Sunday. I wore regular clothes but with a thick robe as my jacket. What the pastor didn't foresee was everyone taking pictures of him in his pajamas (with the open fly & everything lol). He was portrayed as a doofus and he was embarrassed. Another preacher (in 1999) at another church I attended thought it would be hilarious to show up to a pig roast in a grass skirt and coconut shell bra (with his toenails painted to round out the stupidity). I understand people make dumb mistakes (I do all the time) but when you're the leader of (essentially anything) a church, you really need to just stick to preaching the word, praying, and being a good, God fearing and loving leader. You can literally lose all respect in an instant.
Why? Just why?!

A couple of years ago in the mail (around Halloween) I got an invite for a church who was using the evil show Stranger Things as a way to lure people in to talk about Jesus and His His mystery and miracles. They literally used the ST logo. I got on Google and let them have it. Still makes me mad. Christians should have very little to do with secular movies, TV and music. 95% of it is based off sin. The only R rated movie we should have is the Passion of the Christ, if you choose to own it.
I agree that Christians should have little to do with secular entertainment. The only problem is that most of our "Christian" entertainment is owned, operated and controlled by secular entities, such as the Christian music industry, for example.
I think I'd take the bad words from die hard over the blasphemy of passion of the christ. It's a movie written by a catholic that has an actor pretending to be God and wrongly emphasizes the physical suffering of Christ and blatantly adds to the Bible.

If my memory serves me correctly, in Proverbs we read that there are ways that seem right to a man, but in the end they lead to death. This then begs the question if the Die Hard illustration is an example of this.

That was the church that I once attended about 15 years ago. My sister still attended until this past year. I’m so thankful that the Lord opened my eyes to what a true biblical church looks like that preaches expository messages in context and glorifies Christ.

As far as Die Hard Christmas, I’ve never seen it, but even I know he misquoted a the lines when he was in the air ducts. How about using the actual Bible to preach from? Not only that, but we still have brilliant pastors some of whom wrote books about the Bible, references, studys, commentaries, etc. There is absolutely NO REASON In this world that ANYONE should use material from the world to teach the things Christ was desperate for us to know. There can be no correlation between the two. Jesus was not of this world, and His teachings were otherworldly, so why wouldn’t a pastor use the supernaturally written WORD OF GOD to teach and feed the sheep. They are failing and they don’t even care. They want their fame and their fortune, whatever that is, and whatever comes with it. We are in the last days. Keep watch.
