Research Chimp "Captain Kirk" Transported to Sanctuary

  • After 34 years in research, chimpanzee Kirk and his nine group mates from the lab had their first chance to go outside into a forest at the Project Chimps sanctuary in the Blue Ridge Mountains. After lives in the lab, many research chimps are afraid to step outside. The forest seems like a big, scary place and even dirt can be unfamiliar. Kirk is a strong alpha chimp, hence his nickname "Captain Kirk." But would he be strong enough to lead his group outside? Watch as this special day unfolds for Kirk and his group mates Greg, Rusty, Tibi, Armond, Luke, Justin, Rocko, Maverick and Neal.
You can meet them at projectchimps.org and follow their daily adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Support them with a donation or an item from our Amazon Wish List. Even $7 helps to feed a chimp like Kirk for a day. Every bit helps us bring more chimps from the lab to permanent sanctuary.

It really is a crime the way the pharmaceutical industry uses not only humans as guinea pigs, but incarcerates animals to use them for research. You would have to be made of stone, not to feel for these critters. Especially all the new things and being able to see the shy and feel grass under your feet for probably the first time ever! 😊😉😀

We have so much to beg forgiveness for as a species.... this is wonderful, but alas > a drop in the bucket.

We don’t deserve forgiveness for what we have done and continue to do to this planet and it’s other inhabitants.

Nature made humans too strong, blame the evolution for our cruelty

True but is the situation these chimps lived in their earlier lives one for which we need forgiveness? If they were used for medical research to help conquer human illnesses and to help improve our lives why should we feel shame for that?

I can’t believe we ever do this to a living creature and for so long. We owe them for an eternity

Such a beautiful sight. They deserve it for all they've been through. If only product/medical testing could be done on murderers, rapists and child molesters instead of innocent animals..

I can't believe the government didn't stop this testing practice before 2015. It was cruel and inhumane. It reminds me of the movie Project X with Helen Hunt & Matthew Broderick.

Factory farming is cruel and inhumane but I'm assuming you support that unless you're vegan.

There are still furniture and clothing stores with the skins of dead animals. This is only one example of how humans enslave and abuse our cousins in fur, feather, and scales.

@@ASMRyouVEGANyet I believe any form of cruelty to Any animal is wrong, but testing on these precious beings, just to advance the way we look, or smell is criminal. Look how long it took for the ban of killing dolphins & whales in the 🇺🇸 United States. I'm not a vegan. I enjoy a good steak now & then, but not from endangered animals. We need to be more aware of what every generation has done to this planet. Not just the animals but the oceans, mountains, rain forests. Air pollution! Think about it, please.

@@ASMRyouVEGANyet Are you aware roads, tires (tyres for the Europeans) and many other products are made with animal fat?
