Brandon has done amazing quilts in a short period of time. I hope you will be inspired to dive deep into what you like to do in quilting. And maybe try a biscotti quilt too. Enjoy

I am with you Brendon - I am also hyper focused. Following the deaths of parents and grandparents in 2019 I threw myself into quilting. in 2020 I completed 40 quilt tops, mostly still just flimsies. Now I have taken on an ambassador role with Pat Sloan and do weekly TH-cam tutorials to go along with her sew alongs. Thank you Karren for this interview - I can now direct people here to get an understanding of my social awkwardness and blunt style of talking. Brendon explained it better than I ever could.

I enjoy the solitude and socializing of quilting. I can pick and choose either so I don’t get too much of one or the other. When I’m alone I do love my music. When working on a southwestern project, I listen to Native American flute. When I’m working on a Christmas quilt, I love Christmas music, etc. Music speaks to me as does quilting. Kudos to these two artists. Ty.

Music as I quilt or audiobook, for sure, but my music varies, need a bounce while free motion quilting.

    • @cherylsmith3002

I also love Native American flute. I haven't thought of listening to music while I quilt (I often have quilting TH-cam videos playing) but the next time I'm at my machine, I'm trying music.

What a fascinating man and great interview! One of my adult grandsons is dealing with Asberger's Syndrome, so is hyperfocused and struggles with socialization. I really heard the comments about not understanding body language and social subtleties. A lot of what Brandon talked about helps me understand my beloved Grant! Thanks so much for interviewing Brandon. (And his Biscotti quilts and whole cloth quilting are astounding!)

This was a great interview in a great series, but please remember that autism is a spectrum disorder with each individual having different strengths and struggles. I recently found out in my 50’s that I have ASD which explains a lot (honesty all the time).

what a fantastic interview. I'm an introvert with a slight hearing loss and have struggled with large groups and verbal nuances my whole life! It can be so stressful and energy-draining to constantly be on guard. Nice to know I'm not alone!! It's OK to admit discomfort and self-select interactions. Loving zooms, finding it hard to return to in-person. His work is amazing. thanks so much for this introduction to a wonderful being.

I found this an amazing interview on so many levels. In particular, someone I love was recently diagnosed with autism in their sixties and after a lifetime of struggles, it made so much sense of many things. It was fabulous to see how Brandon works with his autism. We should all know our strengths and weaknesses in such a powerful way and be pushing forward to our best. VERY inspiring.

Brandon, when you started speaking about how fabrics may come and go, that nothing is gonna be around forever so just use it, that was spoken directly to me. I DO THAT! Hold on to fabric until I'm more experienced. So afraid of making waste. Started a pattern called stars in the crown, and it required several sets of flying geese-my first attempt! Ooo, exciting. Thank you Accuquilt for allowing me to manage to cut ALL the pieces out in one day. Thank you chain piecing for zooming me through losing my count, and confusing me properly! And some day, I'll figure out how to use all those flying geese that are too short at the points! 😆 It's hard to say, well, this is all wrong, can I use it some other way? Should I rip it all apart? Should I just put it away and move on, hoping that it'll come in handy somewhere down the road? That's what I did. I may decide to rip and try it again, but making all those mistakes taught me-the yellow fabric was too flimsy. I learned a something after all from that. I still have the pattern. The next time, it will be better!!

I think of "tickle my brain" akin to "makes my heart happy". There's something to be said for having the ability to treat the fabric as fabric, to be used and not "stashed". Biscotti...now that's a cool concept...has a one block wonder "feel" to it but much more random. Love the table runner.

Just WOW! My 11yo grandson is autistic and was watching with me, and when he heard Brandon say that HE was autistic, too, he thought it was cool! He made associations like both having brown hair and eyes, etc.
Logan ended up going to the store with his Poppy, but the rest of the interview really helped me and gave me a little more insight into Logan. He's recently come to live with us because he seems to do better than with his 4 younger brothers and sisters, especially with sensory overload. School is about to start, which is going to be something new for us, dealing with his challenges. I appreciated Brandon's point of view!!❤️❤️
