    Nice tutorial. No matter how much experience one can have, it's always good to train fundamentals. Thanks.

    And I've never taken karate officially just messing around with friends going out but I've always loved it I never realized until this video that when I do the front kick my foot stays flat on the floor I never noticed that and you said that's the correct way so that's pretty cool I'm hoping to be able to work out and do all this stuff the way I used to or close to it I do have a little bit of back pain because of my jobs but I'm trying to get it worked on

    Cook tip about the heel on the floor. I actually use bith versions depending on my use of the kick. If it is defense for example an oppenant closing the distance I keep my heel planted. For offense I actually lift my heel and more often than not I use weight distribution to even slide forward as I kick. This is great for increasing my range by a few inches. Works great to land the technique if the oppenant slides back or if they don't move you get a little more penatration when the kick lands. This also allows me to focus less on power and more on the speed because my body weight is also delivered forward. What are your thoughts on this variation?

      I think it's great that you're changing the kick depending on your purpose :)

    In Goju Ryu, I was always taught to use the heel to kick, while using the boshikyu when kicking in Taekwondo

    (I like your videos and good demeanor!)
    -If your heel is up, then your foot is like a shock absorber, which you don't want if you want to transfer maximum power.
    -If your heel is down, then your range isn't as good if your flexibility isn't so good. For jodan(head level) some people may need to lift the heel. You don't need maximum power when delivering a front kick to the chin anyway. 😁

    Thank you for these tutorials! I switched over to Capoeira (Kah-Poo-Eh-Rah) recently, but I learnt my fundamental kicks in Kyokushin Karate, so these are great references.
    Speaking of, didn't you have a clip where you looked at Capoeira? I can't seem to find it anymore. 😕

    Thank you so much for the tips. I recently joined a dojo (ISKF in Levis, Quebec, Canada). I had started doing karate again after a very long 20+ years hiatus on my own and couldn't join during the covid-19 restrictions. I was 5th kyu but am now rebuilding from 9th kyu, hopefully levelling up quick. I find that my technique is not so bad, I'm also relatively flexible for my age (47!). But my big big flaw is speed. I'm soooooo slow. Aside from repetitions, do you have cues to gain speed, especially for movement in zenkutsy dachi or any stance for that matter.

      Focus on moving from glutes and hip flexors and keep your pelvic floor engaged. Many focus on quads and hamstrings, but the movement has to start from the muscles that attach into the hip bones.

    Can you please put together a compilation of Hiroyuki Sanada’s techniques in movies, especially in The Last Samurai? Please consider it for your fans.

    Nice tutorial, I have a question about a detail that I’ve been pulled up on numerous times by my sensei.
    When I first started karate I always locked my leg out at the point of impact, was never taught any different so just continued in that way. I figured that because it was the point of impact with everything locked and full force and weight going into it it would be strong/powerful.
    I’m now told it’s bad for my knees (I switched styles from Kyokushin to Goju) and there should be a slight bend at the knee, it’s something I’m trying to correct but it’s ingrained over the years of training. So do you have a thought on it, I’d like to know.

    • @KarateDojowaKu
      @KarateDojowaKu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say it doesn't go COMPLETELY straight. When you kick naturally the leg will be bent slightly I think.

    I really like your kicks, especially your mae geri. But is it just me or your left kicks are better than your right kicks?
    I noticed from your sparring videos that your natural stance is orthodox (although you tend to switch it in order to create new angles). So, I was wondering if you're more comfortable throwing kicks with your lead leg.

    • @KarateDojowaKu
      @KarateDojowaKu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the kick to be honest! But what I can say for sure is that I have less information being telegraphed when kicking with the left!
