A great 8 by Team GB. What an amazing record-breaking Olympics this was for Britain. 2nd in the medal table, I already loved Brasil and this has given me even more reasons to love Brasil. I thought they were wonderful hosts and such lovely warm and friendly people.
I miss this moment... I worked as a vollunteer in Olimpics Games this year... I met a lot of people and It was a unique oportunity... I loved it! I was there in this moment... and now, I like rowing!
Have you seen how they let it? That's why you don't let 3rd world countries host the Olympics. I don't have anything against Brazil, but they just don't have the economy to host the Olympics, or the needs to use the facilities after it.
I've met Phelan Hill. He said they could have won by more, but they were just keeping it controlled in the last 250 with the thought "let's not mess this up"
Well done Team GB. So relieved they held off the challenge from Team Germany and Team Netherlands. Team USA, Team NZL and Team Poland were nowhere in sight.
Best of luck my friend. The British are awesome rowers and they have German engineering precision behind them in the form of their head coach. He is the secret to their success over the years, British stubbornness, and a refusal to give up plus German engineering excellence which is a formidable combination. The Americans have lots of heart though and the female 8 are very very good so no reason the men's 8 will not be as successful.
Fun fact: I've spoken with Phelan Hill and he said they could have won by more, but they didn't crank it that much in the last 500 because they didn't want to mess it up
anyone ever rigged an 8 with stern four stroke side and bow four bow side, or vice versa? if so and there is a link for youtube pls reply and drop the link
that wouldn't be very efficient since more power comes from the stern to middle 4 so one side would be getting more and also be getting pushed to one side. I would like to see that tho.
Nope! But there is a really nice physics paper on "bucket rigging". So the middle 4 are starb/port/lort/starb or the other way around. Supposedly this gives you nicer properties, but could be a balancing issue since those seats tend to be the heaviest
Rikesh Patel He steers down the course and encourages the crew while making split second decisions on how to make the boat faster against its competition. He watches the other boats and calls their distances through the race, almost like their brain. I can tell you as a rower myself it is much harder to think while rowing, even to do basic math. It helps maintain the focus on rowing.
Trickshot 3 “COME ON GUYS. YOU GOT THIS. PUSH WITH THE LEGS THATS GOOD. I LIKE THIS RATE GUYS. KEEP IT UP. YOURE HALFWAY THERE KEEP PUSHING. HARD AS YOU CAN THATS IT. GIVE IT YOUR ALL!!!”
i disagree with that because the last 100 meters are the most important part of the race (besides your start) because you should be able to bring your rating up at the last 100 and speed past everyone else. During a erg 2k at least if your 2k is a 1:46 you should be able to bring it down to a 1:36 1:37 at least
Spare Airplane that’s completely wrong, if you can bring your split from a 1:46 down to a 1:37 at the end then you didn’t push as hard as you could for the other 1900 meters and tried to “save” energy
Ryan Goodwin but what’s the point in saving your self in the last 100 and you have no races left. If you are neck and neck with someone you push harder than you were going before you leave everything on the water there is no point in not pushing your self for that last 100 meters
Ryan Goodwin there isn’t a person in the world who can go to their absolute physical limit. Everyone has something left in the tank for a sprint in the end
I would have thought that Jurgen Grobler would have been honoured for services to British sport long before now. Has him not receiving one (as far as I'm aware) have anything to do with East Germany and cooperating with the Stasi (not that it would have been easy to refuse in his position at the time)?
The team still at the starting line all pulling in different directions are the " diversity is strength" team. Diversity is a terrible weakness. Unity is strength.

Such an awesome lake to row on. Conditions could get challenging at times but was stunning all the same.
you absolute legend. what's your 2k?
I miss this moment... I worked as a vollunteer in Olimpics Games this year... I met a lot of people and It was a unique oportunity... I loved it! I was there in this moment... and now, I like rowing!
lucky, I signed up to be a campaign volunteer and eventually a Olympic games volunteer for Boston 2024 sadly we gave it up.
Olimpics huh?
Respect New Zealand with wooden grips.
lol I can't believe clubs still use wood grips
Matt J wooden grips are better🤷♂️
My hands hurt thinking about it
one last trip to blister town
What’s wrong with wooden grips?
I rowed the 8 in college and it was both brutal and sublime.
It was the bucket rig. No question.
Free speed
I notice that everyone on that crew was wearing Oakleys or at least high-performance sunglasses of some sort, not sure about the cox
The randy tandy does it every time
@@Farazormal1 ahahahha randy tandy 😂 permission to yoink
The most beautiful landscape
say what they say... The most beautiful Olympics ever... Stunning landsacapes!!!
NacholympicTV Shame about the conditions on the lake though

"Don't have the economy" what do you mean? They have the world's eight largest economy...
and so what? India has the 6th largest economy, that dont make them rich hahaha
@@thomasfandrade they should help their own people with that money that went to the hosting of the olympics
I've met Phelan Hill. He said they could have won by more, but they were just keeping it controlled in the last 250 with the thought "let's not mess this up"
Shadowwolf TD5000 Hodge actually looked as if he was smiling all the way through that
Well done Team GB. So relieved they held off the challenge from Team Germany and Team Netherlands.
Team USA, Team NZL and Team Poland were nowhere in sight.
They weren't wrong when they said the NZ 8 were prospects for the 2020 Olympics 👏👏
Beautiful scenario
“And Poland nowhere to be seen back there😂”
Horizon job
I just started Novice crew and I’m just here to look at the techniques they use. Pretty interesting.
There’s literally one
@@mateuszjasto3214and that one technique needs to be perfect
I rowed in a quad in a 5k,,, I cant even imagine this :'00
I imagined them rowing with full beards and with norse tattoos all over yelling "ROW" very angry 😂
Full respect for this sport
This is my dream, let's hope by the time I am in the Olympics the USA can win it at home during LA 2028.
saucy Liam. No chance, mate!!
Saucy Liam - don’t listen to these losers that doubt you. Good luck!

Congrats to Great Britain !!!!!! THEY DESERVED IT !!!!!!!!!
make it look so easy.

dig deeper and deeper team GB!
During the middle of winter im watching this and i just need to get back on the water
Spare Airplane yep same 👍
Britannia proving her dominance on the water
I just realized UK got a weird layout on their boat... number 4 and 5 both have their oars at the starboard
bucket rig
When Germany go through the distance markers u can't see their boat
amazing play!
A vista do Estádio da Lagoa é a melhor!
great job guys!!
#This is very cool Im signing up for rowing'

hey, hows it going chap, have any regrets yet...
Camdog fall lol
Camdog fall i loved it personally, even tho I’m not OP
@@Olympics Why is the coxswain required in rowing he doesn't seem to be doing anything
Same podium as
2016 Brazil GP
2017 China GP
All the boats and grip come from organizer or bring by each team?
Each team brings their own material, like in every other sports.
What boats did the new zealand team use at rio? They all had that cool black and white design
Sam Dai, we used the standard fillipi design boats, just painted black. Our 8+ has been black since 2014, the other boats adopted the idea for Rio.
cool thx
Keewee2foot not completely true. Mahe and rob wadell raced each other in black boats for Olympic trials but for races yes I believe so
The Kiwis might have a 'famous black boat' but it didn't do them any favours.
UK ever 🇬🇧💘
What does GBR stand for?
Great Britain
Hello. Why is the front person with the whistle needed??
its not a whistle, its a mic
that person shouts motivation and tips to the rowers
and controls the direction of the boat
Rodrigo Simoes Hello. Thank you. That person usually is lighter than the rest right?
He's a coxswain, and his job is to steer the boat, make sure everything is going correctly and provide motivation
Joel Garcia Yes, cox's are usually small and light people.
They are very much needed

Anyone know which seat Peter reed was in
5 seat
Whats the purpose of the guy sitting at the end facing the other way

he’s the cox so he’s steering and motivating the crew, he also calls their race plan so when to sprint when to focus on technical
