The logic behind "stealing the calf's milk" just baffles me, especially with dairy cows. Dairy cows, as you said Kay, have been selectively bred to produce FAR more milk than a little calf needs. A dairy cow can easily. EASILY, supply enough milk for both her calf and a human family to drink and, for some breeds like Jersey and Holstin, still have plenty left over. Anyway, there's my rant for the day lol
@@kannadadhalliaatagalu3116 What’s not true? You know, one serious pet peeve of mine is when someone screeches “NOT TrUe!!!!” without even bothering to explain themselves. I wish you could understand just how annoying that is. So please, enlighten me with your immense dairy cow knowledge. Thanks.
Way to go HoneyBee!! She’s such a sweet cow and Momma!! I really wish people who get all up in arms about you “stealing the calf’s milk” would actually watch the rest of the video and realize that it’s for the calf! I’m so glad to see HoneyBee and baby girl doing well!! Much love from Oklahoma! 💗💗💗
I watched a TH-cam video from a mini Jersey farm a few years ago where the owner made a milking stand, with a low ramp, that raised the cow up a bit and had space for the milking machine below her.
Kay you are so blessed to have these vlogs to show your kiddos just how big you got with them. Congratulations on an easier milker and your new addition 🎉🤰🐮🤱
I just sold my Corriente (large mini) because she was too big for me. Honeybee is the perfect size for me. Or a sheep or goat. I love the baby belly overalls!
I shorten the tubes, between the claw and the inflation by 2½", in order to milk my mini-goats. And, you do not have to break down between every milking. We do a double flush just like a pipeline does. You will get there. I love your show. I was raised around dairy cattle so I am used to all the 'stuff''. Keep up the great videos.
Animals usually eat placentas,to protect from predators, build their milk production for calf....honeybee didn't have to worry about either of those things ...I've seen this happen in different types of animals ...even in the wild ,how ever that one moved far from it with babies!!! ...PS who did you sell ??? You never said!?!
Wouldn't it be better to have the milking platform (And it's stanchion) straight in so the cow could walk in and only turn to step out? It looked a bit hard for the cow to turn into the tight 90 degree right corner of the milking platform.
Heifers taste good too😆 Silly udder size doesn't determine milk quantity 🤦🏼♀️ We don't feed grain necessarily at milking just when it's chore time. It could be an hour before or after
Do you still strain your milk if you use a milker like these? Where there is no dirt and hair falling into the milk? I have only had milked, so I am not familiar with the process of using a milker.
@@Homesteadyshow that was soo awesome to see I'm soo glad to see you guys didn't have a rough time like with grasshopper! Honeybee is a diamond and sweetheart x
We had a milk cow Maggie would nurse 3 calfskin and provide a gallon of milk 2x a day We would go to auction and buy motherless calfs if didn't already have calf in need She was Irish setter red Guernsey we had her for 14 yrs
You just pumped out ALL her Colostrum that is vital for the survival of the calf..please freeze some of that for future..and fix a bottle for her soon...VERY important!!!!! Good Luck
What size is that part of your barn where you have tack room and those stalls in this video. I am trying to plan my layout for mine that is being built this spring
My jersey can support 3 cows I have no problem sticking 2 extra cows on her. The ones I'm raising right now are 7 months old and they probably weights 700 to800 pounds the jersey heifer I had is the smallest of the three because the other 2 are steers.
That cow is too overweight. An old saying is kill them with kindness. The last 3 months my girls go on rocks. The calves drop around 65lbs and no issues.

You can raise three strapping beef calves on one dairy cow!

Being the 5th female in a row, I think you should name her "Queen Bee". Congratulations!
OK guys IF you ever have a bull calf, you've gotta name him MasonBee.

Great cow. I like her compact size. Makes handling easy. Also look at the baby. So cute.

'Atta girl, Honeybee!
You are so incredibly blessed to have had 5 heifer calves! That is amazing! Every farmer’s dream!
Awesome video. God bless you all.
I love how to bring the calf with the mommy so neither of them get stressed out being away from each other

Can the milking stand be raised? Like a stand used for goats.
I love your barn! So nice!
It looks like an old horse stable
We had an old cow that was so short we had her step up on a platform with her back feet only. She was so good about it. Worked like a charm.
Way to go Honeybee!
Awesome job honeybee I 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Grasshopper did sooo well! Her temperament is awesome! It’s great to have first time fresheners show much promise.
I saw the look honey bee gave you when you asked why she hadn't eaten her placenta lol lol was would you eat that ?? Lol LOLOLOLOLOL
Well done.

Where I can buy mini jersey in Europe? Can I import this cows from USA?Great stuff, greetings from Poland

The calf has already nursed and has gotten some colostrum. And they just fed her more in a bottle.
Make note on the direction the cow is facing. This makes a difference.

Have you thought of cutting a hole in the platform that you can remove to put the surge milker in?
#askhomestead -do you do anything to the calves to prevent horns?
What happened to lady bug and Luna ? How many milking cows do you have ? I lost track 😭
5 heifers...that's karma coming back to you for all those losses 💗

Good evening
Longer hoses to the claw would help.

Can always hand milk that how it was done for centuries

The last video Mum already had the Human Baby and you and your oldest Daughter milked Aust?

We wait until the first time they pee - then their gender is revealed!
Man “why didn’t you eat it?” Honey bee looks like you eat that disgusting stuff
You don't need a bull jersey bull only girls
Your naming schemes are confusing.
