    Damn man. None of the 5 million guitar TH-cam channels explained it that well. I had to hear it from a violin channel… kudos

    If you don't have logic, NadIR from STL tone is a great free IR loader.

    The Body of that 7 String Acoustic Violin I found is a bit larger which means every string is going to resonate better, & you'll get a bigger impulse response.

    Have you had a chance to try out the TC Electronic IR loader? I recently picked up a Boss ME-90. From what you mentioned in another video, the IRs in the ME-90 are later in the chain and ideal only for cabs. Sounds like I would want to go thru an IR loader before the input of the ME-90.

      I haven't messed with the TC Electronic unit. We don't carry those, so I don't have one handy to try.

    Thank you for this lucid, detailed and helpful video. I've watched many of your videos. They are all wonderful Can you help me please?
    I'm looking for a small IR petal for electric cello that allows me to mix the raw and IR, some EQ and reverb. Basically, just trying to get a decent acoustic sound playing into my headphones. No amping. I learned from another video that not all IR's process the lower tones of the cello well. So I'm a bit worried about that. Thank you again. And keep those fantastic videos coming!

      Though I am looking into cello, I watch all your violin videos. And I look forward to the Prosody pedal video. Are you making that pedal? The soon to be Elon Musk of string pedals? Without all the noise. Wishing you success and joy in all your endeavors.

      They're just audio files. Load them in your DAW and manipulate away...

    Hi Matt,
    First of all thank you for your great videos. I've been playing the acoustic violin for many years and recently got interested in electric violins. To be honest, so far I'm not impressed by the sound of electric violins, to my ear the sound very thin and metallic. I do see the possibilities with effects to change the sound though. I think that's where the fun is.
    Today I watched your video about the Impulse Responses and finally I hear something very close to an acoustic violin. I do have some questions about it though.
    Does it matter what quality of electric violin I use for the input of the IR? I like the looks of the Yamaha YEV-104 but the SV-250 sounds a lot better. Are the results with IR the same or will I still hear the difference between the YEV and the SV?
    Another thing I'm wondering if this IR thing (especially when using software) works realtime. Or is there a delay in playing because of the processing the IR does?
    I whish they would put the IR processing in the violin instead of using software or a hardware pedal.
    Very excited about buying my first electric violin. Just wondering if it's possible to use a headphone on it directly or do i always need an amplifier?
    Regards,
    Patrick from the Netherlands

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Of course it matters which violin you use. The IR just provides a virtual violin body.
      When you're using any computer, latency can become an issue. If you use a powerful enough computer and don't load it up with a ton of other stuff, it works great.
      It's possible to use headphones directly if the violin you pick has a built-in headphone amp. Most don't, but a few do.
      Give us a call at the shop or shoot us an email if you have more questions!

    Matt, so is it possible to get say Japanese string instruments sound with Cantini, with IR pedal? I really like to try, you said we just need small segment of input and output Wav files?

    Is it just me, but when (7:35) Matt did the dance move, the electric violin sounds much better.

    Man, I didn't need more things to spend money on but I gotta check these out now! Looking at the Mooer pedal, you mentioned the Helix has some limitations with room IRs, does the Mooer have any of those same limitations or will it take any kind of IR? Also would you recommend putting the IR at the beginning or the end of your signal chain? Thanks Matt!

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Mooer does have those limitations - and it you can't control the blend in the Mooer. It's either 100% or 0%. Those are your two choices. If it's an instrument body, I generally place it very early in the chain. If it's a speaker cab, I generally put it very late in the chain.

    For these impulses to work, will I depend on some external hardware or is a vst IR plugin in a DAW enough? Thank you in advance.

      ToneDexter isn't really an IR pedal. It's similar but not quite.

    • @ElectricViolinShop

      You're probably going to have to experiment with the mix ratio and EQ it a bit to get the sound you're looking for.

    7:43 There's a reason Electric Violins have a different sound from an Acoustic Violin.

    • @ElectricViolinShop
      @ElectricViolinShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true. It's important to embrace the sound of your electric for what it is. But if you need (or want) an acoustic sound, you can totally get one.

    • @RockStarOscarStern634
      @RockStarOscarStern634 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ElectricViolinShop That explains why not everyone starts on an Electric violin. However the bridge violins have a hollow body to give them a quazi acoustic sound.

      @@ElectricViolinShop What I do w/ the Fractional Sized Instruments is add Piezo Pickups to them & have the students play through an amp because they don't sound Acoustically the same as a Full Sized instrument, but plugged into the amp it sounds bigger. Fractional Sized instruments really benefit from a Pickup.
