Except your orange interior lights are working .. same here when I close the car at night orange glow comes on.. hasn't for ages until it spazzed out .. I have low beam tail lights and rear brakes no indicators. Dash works fine dash screen works fine . Mirrors work but windows don't . Dtc works dsc works .. hazards don't but the light in the switch does light up... Obd connects to inpa still wondering if I have it setup right don't want to start the job for it to crash and make it a whole lot worse . I think it may be easier to take out the module and buy the terminal clamp and the junction box.. saves screwing the rest of the system 😬

First you have to code the battery for the car. Second if you have an airbag light on the dash check the positiv wire on the battery there is a small connector with two wires and sometimes that brakes when you change the battery. Try to connect a scanner to see if you can delete the errors because is normative to have some errors after you remove the battery. If you cannot connect with the car than is your FRM module. That is your problem. You can send it to repair/reset. It can be the junction box aswell. Is behind the glove box exactly under the fuse panel. Depending on the year the exact location may very.

Thanks for the video! My E70 X5 has a similar issue. In addition to many things not working. The wipers turns on automatically. And the car doesn't start at all. This has happened twice. Both after raining and some water managed to get in and the passenger side carpet was soaked. After the car drying out a bit it works fine again. This is pretty annoying as I don't know when this problem could come back. It could be very inconvenient if it fails when I am far away from home.

Helpful video fr, although I had conspicuous issue with my car, my belt accessory for the engine had snapped off due to excess oil leaking out of the oil filter and I had gotten the oil changed with my belt placed back in but after it was fixed there was the “Lighting Malfunction” as soon as I start my car at the dealership. I talked to dude who fixed it and he ran diagnostics again and “restarted the system” still nothing. He said it could be two things, one that the battery needs to recharge and regain its potential (so he told me to actually drive around to charge it idk if that’sjust local dealership garbage talk ) and two to just take it in back to the shop sometime if it still doesn’t work. My car had all the exact same problems as shown in the video no window down, no lights, no blinkers. I’m confused as to why that would happen? Or if they did something with the codes? Or if it really is just the module and that I had to spend dam near 800$ for haha but I just feel like it’s a weird thing for sure it’s not clear to me
Tanner J. This module will go bad when the voltage drops under 10 V. It is always the battery faulty. In your case because the alternator wasn't charging the battery. But there is no other option to repair this module just to reflash it or new one. Reflash works all the time and is cheaper.
basically you need to program the cars computer for the new battery. you have to input what type of battery is there just for the alternator to now how to properly charge the battery because the relay that charges the battery in this car is electronic not mechanical anymore

Guys, before you install and code your new battery ALWAYS make sure the Cold Crank Amps(CCA), Group Size and Battery Type matches the old battery. Any change in spec is bound to fry your FRM or DME.
Were you having any issues with the auxiliary cord or USB connection previous to replacing the module? I'm having all those same problems, and have a weird tapping noise coming out of the speakers also...happened after I tried to plug my phone into the usb and it shorted out I think. . I didn't have that symptom on my case. Normally this doesn't have any connection with radio/aux/USB. This can happend because of the amplifier located in the trunk left side under a plastic tray. It's a common issue on e90's thx for watching
Warp Drive M did you disconnect battery before doing all this? Also, what might be wrong with my amplifier? Radio and CD audio still works, just the tapping noise coming from speakers and aux/usb don't work
you have to disconnect always the battery when you are working with electrical modules. and that noise and the aux/usb not working is 100% the amplifier. in all most all the cases this problems (frm and other modules going bad) is related to bad battery. in a bmw (not just) every time when the voltage drops under 10V (especially when you start the car is the most dropping voltage) you will have one or more modules going bad.
Yeah...12.4v but you have to measure it while you are cracking the engine. It not allow to drop under 11V. And you don't have to change the amp. It just have some short on the case...usually but it have to be repaired. Way cheaper then buying a new one! Good luck

Hello I had a heater core in my 08 335 e92 done and afterwards the idrive won’t turn on the windows won’t work pretty much everything won’t turn on scanning there are codes 2a19,2dc3,2fbc,cda0,cda8,cdbe. I have sent the car to the dealership and they said everything is in good working order. I sent the cas and dme to ecu pro and they tested good. I’m at a loss please help the car starts but has no electrical power. The second you key on the water pump goes batshit crazy
Very hard to tell you just from a description. Check the fuse box, junction box. There are most of the controllers regarding the distribution of the current in to the modules
Normally yes...but I don't recommend that because the stop lights won't work and side turns aswell and this cause accidents! In case of accident no insurance will pay the damages. So don't drive the car without the frm module.
You can directly install it without coding and it will work. The coding is required just if something is not working correctly. If you have version 1 or 2 you can install 3 as well. If you have version 3 you have to install just version 3. On the module itself is written the version
+Warp Drive M so i have BMW 325i e90 2006 n52 and my reverse lights won't illuminate and my car will bring up light out symbol and since the car has been doing that for a while likely the FRM cancelled out voltage for the wiring to reverse bulbs and yes all my lights work except reverse. How can i reset to gain my reverse lights again? What i did for now since im a certified mechanic and im currently taking electronics class i by passed the frm and i put wire connected to battery 12V with a switch that is next to my seat on the left and i switch it to on only when i back up and click again off and works fine for a bypass but i want to retrieve the reverse to the FRM.
In this case you have to reset the FRM but for that you need special programs which I don't have and I send mine modules to a company for reset. This is the only way. In Germany cost aprox 70 euros. And for your wires you can use the reverse wires from gearbox or direct from gear lever and you won't need any switch
Hello, I'm from Brazil, my name is Douglas Niemeyer. I work with electronics and they brought me this X5 E70 2007 to repair. No more turning on the LCD panel, sound equipment, rear camera ....... I noticed that the CD changer on the right side hatch turns on the LEDs when I press LOAD button and the mechanism makes noise, just that. Where is the module that controls the LCD screen located? Former owner of the car reports that this car was stopped for a few months, and sometimes the LCD sound joystick went back to working alone. I thought it might be some rust but I need to know where the modules of this vehicle are located. I already tried the 30 second reset by the volume encoder. I also removed the battery for a while but nothing solved. I await a return. Thank you.
First you have to be sure that you have enough curent/voltage on the battery! This is the main problem on BMW. Check the voltage on the battery while cracking! If goes under 11V or lower than that's your problem. The modules in BMW when have under 10V will shut off and just with a full reflash or reset you can use them anymore. The LCD screen is connected with just a cable from the main unite and it's the hole assembly with radio and CD player (not CD changer). You have to remove the radio from the dash and there is your computer for all! And under the CD changer you will have the amp if the car has one. If your car has sound problems...I hope this will help!
I noticed now when maneuvering the car that appears a "battery" on the display between the dashboards of the panel. The starter was able to start the engine normally, I did not remember to monitor the battery voltage! The battery is no longer original. How do I reset or refflash? What do you think of leaving the battery disconnected for a few hours and leaving the battery charged? Do not disconnect the battery! Put it on charger but don't disconnect it! Leve it on the car. If you have enough current your modules should start if not you will need a few programs and with that I can't help you...normally that car should have an AGM battery! And it should be coded to the car. You can use carly app or IMPA for that.

Those symptoms are pointing to a defect FRM module. You can take it out and send it to reset to a shop in your area. Just Google frm module repair/reset in your area. But you have to replace the battery because this problem is mainly because of a bad battery
change Footwear module and I change the whole light assembly on the passionate side but I have lights on the driver side only thing coming on now is the running lights on the passenger side everything else work where do I go next
Jay Hurt it may be just a bad connection in your case. Check if everything is plugged properly using that sliding lock. If u have changed that modul should work.
@@MrBeaastt1 If you fit another FRM Module then it must be coded. However these days you can get your own repaired, depends where you live. However the most common faults are the relays,which are unbuilt and you will see them straightaway if you open the FRM.
@@MrBeaastt1 I would suggest to disconnect both battery poles for 20mins and then reconnect and take it to someone who has a machine and can reset the battery for you, as that might resolve the issue.
First you have to code the battery! I have a video on my channel how to code the battery! But the FRM module it cannot be done at home. You have to send it for repairs. Just Google frm repair on your region and I'm sure you will find something
Thanks for this video. Ive just had the same issue with my E91 after replacing my SE seats with heated seats (which i havent activated). I remkve the battery and reconnected it at the end and the lights and windows stopped working. My left headlight however stays on.
Upkar Batth in order to repair this it had to be feflashed. That is what the company has done for me. After that just install it normal with the battery installed on the car.
Bmw will warranty the frm footwell module for free if u are in the time bracket . 8 years and 120k miles if im not mistaken. This happened to me when I changed my battery positive terminal,the frm fired and went bad. I'm going to have bmw fix it !
I've had like 190.000 km on this car when it happened...its all done and I've sold the car. I bought another e90 3l engine gas. With the new one I was at bmw dealership and they change a lot of stuff for free. It was some recall for the battery cables, junction box and climate control. You can ask your dealership if your car has the same actions available.

Nu a pierdut de loc curent pana atunci. Am pornit-o si imediat dupa am observat ca nu mai merg luminile. Modulul se defectează cand scade curentul sub 10 V. Dacă e slaba bateria la pornire scade cel mai mult curentul, ceea ce s-a și întâmplat în cazul meu.
Tot firma la care ai reparat tu, am găsit-o si eu pe ebay la 120€, am vorbit cu ei pe mail sa il trimit pe DHL Express, eu am mult de mers de la Stuttgart până acolo in conditiile in care nu functioneaza decât faza scurta, stopul pe frână si pozițiile. Sper numai sa ma descurc sa il dau jos după tutorialul tau :)))

Miscam un pic de panoul de sigurante din torpedou si mergea. Marțea asta am zis totusi sa ma duc sa o fac. Am dus-o la ei in stare perfecta de functionare si cand mi-au adus-o, mi-au zis ca e din cauza frm-ului si mi-au făcut factura de 630 de euro. Am refuzat-o, dar când mi-au adus masina nu mai mergea decat pozițiile, stop pe frana si faza scurta. Atat. Din toata electronica. Ce nu pricep eu, frm-ul se află la sofer, a mea primea curent cand mișcăm de panoul de sigurante, care să fie legătura, nu cumva o fi alt störung?

Not really...you can upgrade if you have frm 2 you can buy frm3 and you will have more lights options for coding but if you have frm3 you have to buy frm3
I don't understand why it didn't work due to low battery, If you changed the battery it should just work. Why did you need to get it repaired afterwards?
This module need to have at leas 10V because it makes backups. And if is not enough voltage it's gonna crush. That's why even with a new battery it has to be feflashed.
BMWs have become giant piles of trash. I just replaced a starter and reconnected the battery and this shit happened. No more BMWs for me. I had a 79 320i that was bulletproof. A 1995 3.0 V8 that could not be broken, just an alternator. Nowadays they're trash from the factory. All plastic crap and over engineered flimsy trash.

Yours is FRM2, FRM3 cannot be fixed by doing that, you need to remove it and have it flashed then it works again.

did you first removed negative cable from battery or juts unplugged it from connectors? thanks
When you remove the terminals it doesn't matter. When you put everything back positive cable first and last the negative cable.
If you live in USA this under warranty if your car is under 150k miles or less than 10 years old

I fried my Frm by getting a bigger battery with more reserve power and CCA. Just seeing this comment a day too late
What if the CCA is only 10 amps more than the previous battery? Would it still possibly damage these things?

Check the battery for sure. If the voltage drops under 10V when you crank the car you have to replace it. Normally that's why the module goes bad...

Probably the battery is running low and fucked the module.. it happened to me.

All electrical consumption off and after that the negative terminal off first
to be safe, just unplug the FRM3 first then remove battery terminals, then reconnect FRM after the battery is connected.

Normally yes...but I don't recommend that because the stop lights won't work and side turns aswell and this cause accidents! In case of accident no insurance will pay the damages. So don't drive the car without the frm module.

You can directly install it without coding and it will work. The coding is required just if something is not working correctly. If you have version 1 or 2 you can install 3 as well. If you have version 3 you have to install just version 3. On the module itself is written the version

+Warp Drive M so i have BMW 325i e90 2006 n52 and my reverse lights won't illuminate and my car will bring up light out symbol and since the car has been doing that for a while likely the FRM cancelled out voltage for the wiring to reverse bulbs and yes all my lights work except reverse. How can i reset to gain my reverse lights again? What i did for now since im a certified mechanic and im currently taking electronics class i by passed the frm and i put wire connected to battery 12V with a switch that is next to my seat on the left and i switch it to on only when i back up and click again off and works fine for a bypass but i want to retrieve the reverse to the FRM.
In this case you have to reset the FRM but for that you need special programs which I don't have and I send mine modules to a company for reset. This is the only way. In Germany cost aprox 70 euros. And for your wires you can use the reverse wires from gearbox or direct from gear lever and you won't need any switch

I work with electronics and they brought me this X5 E70 2007 to repair.
No more turning on the LCD panel, sound equipment, rear camera .......
I noticed that the CD changer on the right side hatch turns on the LEDs when I press LOAD button and the mechanism makes noise, just that.
Where is the module that controls the LCD screen located?
Former owner of the car reports that this car was stopped for a few months, and sometimes the LCD sound joystick went back to working alone. I thought it might be some rust but I need to know where the modules of this vehicle are located.
I already tried the 30 second reset by the volume encoder. I also removed the battery for a while but nothing solved.

First you have to be sure that you have enough curent/voltage on the battery! This is the main problem on BMW. Check the voltage on the battery while cracking! If goes under 11V or lower than that's your problem. The modules in BMW when have under 10V will shut off and just with a full reflash or reset you can use them anymore. The LCD screen is connected with just a cable from the main unite and it's the hole assembly with radio and CD player (not CD changer). You have to remove the radio from the dash and there is your computer for all! And under the CD changer you will have the amp if the car has one. If your car has sound problems...I hope this will help!
I noticed now when maneuvering the car that appears a "battery" on the display between the dashboards of the panel.

Do not disconnect the battery! Put it on charger but don't disconnect it! Leve it on the car. If you have enough current your modules should start if not you will need a few programs and with that I can't help you...normally that car should have an AGM battery! And it should be coded to the car. You can use carly app or IMPA for that.

Yes you can but you won't have any kind of lights or interior functions or windows won't work

The battery is the main reason. If the voltage drops under 10V the frm module shuts off. You have to send it to repair (reset) and is gonna be ok
Those symptoms are pointing to a defect FRM module. You can take it out and send it to reset to a shop in your area. Just Google frm module repair/reset in your area. But you have to replace the battery because this problem is mainly because of a bad battery

Bmw 320d 2010 but the problem/fix is for most of the bmw's from 2005 till 2013
change Footwear module and I change the whole light assembly on the passionate side but I have lights on the driver side only thing coming on now is the running lights on the passenger side everything else work where do I go next
Jay Hurt it may be just a bad connection in your case. Check if everything is plugged properly using that sliding lock. If u have changed that modul should work.
There are 2 relays in FRM unit and mostly one of them fails..its easy to fix if you are bit handy and have knowledge in electrics.

If you fit another FRM Module then it must be coded. However these days you can get your own repaired, depends where you live. However the most common faults are the relays,which are unbuilt and you will see them straightaway if you open the FRM.

I would suggest to disconnect both battery poles for 20mins and then reconnect and take it to someone who has a machine and can reset the battery for you, as that might resolve the issue.

The problem and module is the same. Just options are different coded from each model. But the problem has the same solution. Reset the module

First you have to code the battery! I have a video on my channel how to code the battery! But the FRM module it cannot be done at home. You have to send it for repairs. Just Google frm repair on your region and I'm sure you will find something

Just Software reset. You have to take it out from your car and they will put it on the bench and just reset it.

Thanks for this video. Ive just had the same issue with my E91 after replacing my SE seats with heated seats (which i havent activated). I remkve the battery and reconnected it at the end and the lights and windows stopped working. My left headlight however stays on.

Upkar Batth in order to repair this it had to be feflashed. That is what the company has done for me. After that just install it normal with the battery installed on the car.

Bmw will warranty the frm footwell module for free if u are in the time bracket . 8 years and 120k miles if im not mistaken. This happened to me when I changed my battery positive terminal,the frm fired and went bad. I'm going to have bmw fix it !
I've had like 190.000 km on this car when it happened...its all done and I've sold the car. I bought another e90 3l engine gas. With the new one I was at bmw dealership and they change a lot of stuff for free. It was some recall for the battery cables, junction box and climate control. You can ask your dealership if your car has the same actions available.
David, did bmw repair the module for free? I have a 2010 3 series with 100 k on the clock. Frm3r pl2 needs replacing.

Nu a pierdut de loc curent pana atunci. Am pornit-o si imediat dupa am observat ca nu mai merg luminile. Modulul se defectează cand scade curentul sub 10 V. Dacă e slaba bateria la pornire scade cel mai mult curentul, ceea ce s-a și întâmplat în cazul meu.
Tot firma la care ai reparat tu, am găsit-o si eu pe ebay la 120€, am vorbit cu ei pe mail sa il trimit pe DHL Express, eu am mult de mers de la Stuttgart până acolo in conditiile in care nu functioneaza decât faza scurta, stopul pe frână si pozițiile. Sper numai sa ma descurc sa il dau jos după tutorialul tau :)))

Warp Drive M , bateria am schimbat-o la BMW Mulfinger in decembrie 2017, si cam la 2 două luni cand ma pregăteam să plec cu masina, ma pomeneam ca nu avea curent deloc, nici macar cat sa intre cheia. Miscam un pic de panoul de sigurante din torpedou si mergea. Marțea asta am zis totusi sa ma duc sa o fac. Am dus-o la ei in stare perfecta de functionare si cand mi-au adus-o, mi-au zis ca e din cauza frm-ului si mi-au făcut factura de 630 de euro. Am refuzat-o, dar când mi-au adus masina nu mai mergea decat pozițiile, stop pe frana si faza scurta. Atat. Din toata electronica.
Ce nu pricep eu, frm-ul se află la sofer, a mea primea curent cand mișcăm de panoul de sigurante, care să fie legătura, nu cumva o fi alt störung?

Not really...you can upgrade if you have frm 2 you can buy frm3 and you will have more lights options for coding but if you have frm3 you have to buy frm3

I don't understand why it didn't work due to low battery, If you changed the battery it should just work. Why did you need to get it repaired afterwards?
This module need to have at leas 10V because it makes backups. And if is not enough voltage it's gonna crush. That's why even with a new battery it has to be feflashed.

BMWs have become giant piles of trash. I just replaced a starter and reconnected the battery and this shit happened. No more BMWs for me. I had a 79 320i that was bulletproof. A 1995 3.0 V8 that could not be broken, just an alternator. Nowadays they're trash from the factory. All plastic crap and over engineered flimsy trash.
