people think its just a father and son dancing ...It's a father and son sharing the love of dance. Giving back to the commumity And teaching people outside of it. The culture And good nature of the tribe while honoring the family members before them Pure enjoyment
Well said some of the best grass dancing I’ve seen besides my uncle Ronnie Preston back in his days but that young bull at the end is the next champ must be the sons son cause I think he won against both them !
It was a dance of father and son dance together - in my thoughts, both winners, dance of honor, not all sons still have a father and not all fathers still have sons to dance with, it's a Blessing! ❤
I watched this video and was so touched by the beautiful and amazing dancing. It was beyond words how special this event was hearing the bells and seeing those incredible feather head dress . 7 years have passed since this was filmed but |I just had to leave my word of respect to you all thankyou for making my day, I will continue to research powwow dance .
Wow I wasn't expecting that to happen, so beautiful to see 3 generations of Randy's family in a dance off, father, son, grandson it doesn't get any better then this.
Culture is never static. It continues to evolve as the people learn and see more. Old traditions incorporate new ideas, sensibilities as the younger generations step up to carry on. Any culture that remains static, dies.
Shoutout for pops teaching his ways and much love too the family for working as a team it’s all about culture and family that was teamwork not a competition !!
Amazing! Father and son showing their mad skills...shooo this is total love and respect for one another...made me tear up with happiness 😊 much respect to yah both 🤩
DJ Shub brought me here. The physical and emotional beauty, depth and richness of the people will keep me coming back. Strength through vulnerability ❤️ Stay safe and well all ❤️
Glad to see my northern cousins honoring the ancient traditions unfortunately I wasn't so lucky to be raised in my culture, I only found out later in life that I was chiricahua apache and raramuri from Mexico on my dad's side and they were forced to abandon their native heritage from the colonizers because I don't even have an Indian name and just as our American tribal cousins endured great atrocities under white rule in the US we endured similar atrocities in Mexico under Spanish and later Mexican rule. I love learning not just about my own heritage but my cousins and I know we are not really family but we are all related by our shared heritage of turtle island. Much love and respect to my Indian brothers and sisters please cherish your heritage and keep fighting to practice it and protect it because you never know how precious it is until you lose it or forced to give it up like what happened to my family.
Jon, I'm so very sorry for what my people did to your people. It was cruel, shameful, disgraceful. I'm happy that you're finding and living your heritage and culture. They are something to be very proud of. I stand with you my Native American brother. ❤
Hau - similar story in my family as they had to hide being Indigenous all our lives. But what you lost, you can regain and reclaim. I live in the UK now but I am still indigenous and always will be. Reconnect!
OMG the entire dance off was mind blowing...the skill...emotion.....and yes the young man that dances with Therion at the end was also amazing...the skill and respect...honor shown by all...thank you for sharing with us utube viewers
That was awesome to see. I miss the powwows from back home. Puyallup, Quinalt, Shelton, Tillamook, and even traveling to Canada for them. I hope one day, I find some close to where I live in Tennessee. Usually, when I do, it is a few days late when I hear about them. My daughter's godmother got her started in shawl dance at the Puyallup Powwows when she was 3 years old. She doesn't do it anymore, I wish she did. She was good at it. Her godmother was a jingle dancer. THANK YOU,for sharingI look forward to future ones.
It was sad when he looked across when the little one came in and seen his dad was eliminated but when he seen little brother on stage with him he couldn't help but keep on going.. sad story happy ending
This is Beautiful, because it's a Father sharing his Culture with his Son, passing it on. Absolutely Gorgeous Regalia, and I Love the Dancing! I wish I was there! Thank You!🐺🐺🐺🐺❤️❤️❤️❤️🩷🩷🩷🩷
It's pretty cool to see when fathers and their sons go head to head because to me that shows together family of what he was taught and how much he learned from his father from generation to generation will the family line of Indigenous dancing will forever be taught till the Great Father comes from the Heavens and we will all dance for his grace and eternal love. May you all be continually be blessed in the up coming new year. ishaaaa!
To be honest, I don't know how many time's I've watched this video, it warms my heart to see father and son just dancing together, it's so easy for me to forget it's a competition, I just see a father and his son.
Wow that brought a tear to my eye you could just see and feel the luv.. I felt like lil brother helped his big brother keep going after dad was eliminated that was awesome...
Man Therien and Randy were awesome God blessed me with having the chance to talk to them on fb the same night i watched this video 💜very humble people if I could love this video I would a million times 👍🏾😍 Thanks for sharing with us❣❣
Thanks for sharing that! That is the coolest thing I've seen in a while and I've been to pow wow thousands of times. The young boy was the grandson? So beautiful, brought tears to my eyes. Filled my heart
So moving: seems to me like a ceremony whereby father and son are facing the inevitability of the elders handing cultural treasures to the younger generation.
Wish i really was close to my dad but she to my physical situation my grandparents raised me n never got to know my dad very well seen him n my mom together with my sisters n step brother having a great time but i miss my grampa wen I see this he instilled in me to be an overcomer n the art of making bow n arrows for survival
Beautiful culture and people with true family values. This is so beautiful to see. It touched my heart and made me weep with proudness for Them. Cymru ( Wales) ✌🏽🤝❤️❤️
Even though Therien won, Randy still has the moves, he's very quick and gave his son a run for the money, competing against a close family member is hard, I remember competing against my little sister, that was tough, I wanted her to win because she was young and I didn't want her to get discouraged, there's a 22 year age difference between my sister and I.
love this!! such skill and passion, and you can tell their family love for each other is so deep ❤️ amazing video, congratulations to both randy and therien!!!!
💖💖💖Thank Yous!❤️ Words cannot describe.. I miss my dad so very mucho.. Thank You for letting me feel this joy and remember ..asioita.. things from the past ... Thank You!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Brought tears to my eyes when I realized his were real and not just because he could not answer, as there was no answer.
Some don't even get that chance, good moment for sure
Well said some of the best grass dancing I’ve seen besides my uncle Ronnie Preston back in his days but that young bull at the end is the next champ must be the sons son cause I think he won against both them !

Beautifully put.
You know he wants his son to win. But he will make him earn it. Thats beautiful
THIS is something we cannot lose……❤❤
Dad had some old time moves, son had exuberance. Wonderful.
I watched this video and was so touched by the beautiful and amazing dancing. It was beyond words how special this event was hearing the bells and seeing those incredible feather head dress . 7 years have passed since this was filmed but |I just had to leave my word of respect to you all thankyou for making my day, I will continue to research powwow dance .

im bawling my eyes out- ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.... The dancing - and the beauty of their love
Culture is never static. It continues to evolve as the people learn and see more. Old traditions incorporate new ideas, sensibilities as the younger generations step up to carry on. Any culture that remains static, dies.

Papa taught him everything he knows.
I watch Native American's movies, pow wows, etc. I love them. These costumes were really beautiful. Thank you very much.
They are not called costumes...that's an offensive word about our traditional clothing. It's called an outfit.
BEAUTIFUL dancing, father & son brought tears to my eyes 😭, HAPPY TEARS, both are AMAZING dancers 💯👌
So beautiful, it made me cry. So majestic and powerful.
It's beautiful to see the traditions being taught and shared.😊
