Note: perhaps do a Pre-video on how to create and download from the web site the svn repository for linux and then do the make/install.... (i have used Tortoise SVN but I like how you have done it with your directories and all, and am not sure which to download or get or clone)?
Why was this sorting program written to be so difficult to sort the integers??? Good grief. Who thought this thing up? Don't waste your time on it if it's so stupid with integers. It seems like it's only written for letters, and the number thing was thrown in as an after thought because it's needed but all the work was done to sort letters, and now s/he stuck with that.
At 11:10 it sure looks like we are seeing social security number names and telephone numbers of these people. I hope they are all deceased people, and these aren't private data, or that these records are fictitious.
I'd welcome an entire series on COBOL. I have been getting to know the language again, and any tutorials are insanely helpful.
I know less than you about Cobol
@@moshixmainframechannelOh Ok :-).
Your mainframe info is top-notch!

I don’t even remember how I downloaded it.
The first column is left justified numbers and will not sort correctly because there are no leading zeroes
Yes that is clear but DFSORT would take the column as a number if it’s specified as numbers
I will send that as a request/requirement to them. Thanks @@moshixmainframechannel
To whom?
wish list on gnucobol @@moshixmainframechannel

I think they actually did a good job. Can be improved. But it’s a great start
Hmmm not sure if theres a way to connect gnu cobol to a posstgres database @@moshixmainframechannel

As I said before (also on the video) : this is test data
Social Security recycles numbers after people die. It really doesn't matter anymore as long as the name doesn't match the number.
