Hey, Jeremiah! I just wanted to give you a shout. I'm so glad I found your videos. So cool to see a KY guy on the trails. Thanks for sharing and teaching!
Source hydration bladders used by many military units, I've been through several brands and Source seems to be the most toughest, I also use evernew as well, keep up the good work.
I'm going to have to 1 up you on the evernew.. Cnoc Vecto is the future of water bags, fits the sawyer filter and they make one that fits the Katadyn, the wide end opens up for the easiest filling if you have a shallow stream or just a trickle
I think that’s what I’m going to get. I’m the only one on the trip that wasn’t using one lol I do love the large opening you can use at the top to fill up with
I once had a star-crossed love affair with a very sweet, ex-military, Alabama boy who was down here (in Aus) on holiday. To amuse me, he used to imitate all of the different accents of all the States of the South, & help me learn the differences between each - & you sound _exactly_ like his Kentucky impression, so that's kind of cool. It's certainly a distinct accent! 😃
There are so many epic places to hike here in Utah, but I miss the Eastern forests with their beds of leaves or the pine needle ground cover in the Carolinas. Thanks JS for letting us tag along.
I cam down here to make a similar comment about the CNOC Vecto and Sawyer squeeze. I love the wide opening in the top to collect water. I also set mine up in a gravity type system that goes right into the 1L SmartWater bottles. Still going strong!
That is a great hike we did it Jan 1-3 with a troop of Trail Life Trailmen. The views ARE great, our weather started good but ended wet as we were climbing down off cloud splitter. Having done the staircase with and without packs (without IS easier).

Great vid bro. the gorge isnt far from me. Southeast Ohio along the river here. Shug is something else, it would be awesome to camp with him. Thanks for sharing.
The camera issue is from the shutter speed being faster or out of sync with the frequency of your headlamp light. It causes what's known as "scan lines" and you can avoid it if you have the option to lower your shutter speed. There's plenty of videos on youtube that can help you with it.

Yay! Bison Way! I took a fat girl up there once and she actually laid down on the ground before hitting the staircase she was so scared. Took 15 mins to get her ass up just to go back down. Staircase and along the cliff edge out of the cave to sheltowee and back down the other way is my fav gorge hike of all time. I just did the stair case, cloud splitter, courthouse rock and double arches last weekend, a little piece of advise is never do the staircase when it’s wet, my friend slipped and slid all the way to the edge of that part of the bottom of the staircase where it’s just a sheer drop about 35 feet. He managed to kind of run into a large bush sitting right at the bottom of the slope. Scary stuff..
Lmao. I get the feeling I know the exact bush you’re talking about. Is it down behind your left shoulder (assuming you’re facing the staircase)? Seen a few people get stopped by that one
For the Nemo Disco, is that what you took on the CT? My wife, son and I each have one. It seems heavy to me for 2-3 days on the CT but you never know about the weather even in August.
I have never done the Colorado Trail, but I did a multi day trip through the Holy Cross Wilderness in CO at 12,000+ ft and I did the Long Trail. Both of which I took the Nemo Disco. The CO trip was in the summer and so was the LT

Okay... Thing 1. Best meal/s I've ever enjoyed in the backcountry. 1. Japanese Kobe Ribeye Steak with Asparagus, purple potato medallions sauteed in butter and white whine with Morel mushrooms chased down with Pabst Blue Ribbon beers. Yes BEERS PLURAL.. I actually used a waterproof tactical backpack filled with a 12 pack of Pabst and ice. !!!HACK ALERT!!! It was summer. The hike into our spot was only 2 miles so I felt obliged to grossly and especially to the ultralight members of my trail clan, I felt it a moral responsibility to overpack in the most offensive manner possible. I had 2 chairs, 2 mini lifejacket bluetooth speakers, a 20 foot string of color changing battery powered LED light ropes. Of course heavy ass pack of extra batteries, a fifth of Jack Daniels, four precooked lemon pepper chicken breasts (to offer as snacks on a cheap plastic silver tray...yes just to be a smart ass to the UL peeps...YES they ate he chicken 😝) and to boot....Fire logs. Yes...The logs you can purchase at Walmart to use in place of wood...ALSO A GOOD HACK....These logs help airstream the use of a smallish pile of wood. Making your wood last at least 20 times longer. They also sell tiny campfire versions but I had 2 of the large ones burning in tandem. Epic 2 nighter that I will remember on my death bed. 2nd best meal I've had on the trail. Rainbow Trout with lemon pepper, hash browns and Southern comfort. This meal was on a solo hike. My first night on a 5 nighter on a through hike of the Sandia Peak North trail from I-40 to Del Agua lookout over Placitas New Mexico. There is nothing wrong with Oatmeal, Bears, Mountain Lions or carrying UDP Pepper spray. Your videos are awesome.
Greetings. I just discovered your channel and yes, I subscribed. In this video you and your friends seems to be doing things separately and you’re tent is so far away. Why is that? Also do you worry about bears with such a small shelter?
Lol I don't want to sleep around them because they all snore, but I did hang out with them until I went to bed. I don't worry about bears in that area of the woods because there are so many people around. You see very little wildlife
How did you walk past the Ohm Hole (spelling?)? The large rock house opposite the Staircase? In the ceiling is a bizarre scooped out hole, like an echo chamber! Guess you're going back! I hate to see people camp on the trail like that but without any regulations or enforcement, the RRG is what it is. They don't even enforce the regulations on the actual trails, trails like this one are wide open and abused accordingly. Such a beautiful area.
Great videos I didn't know where you were at first RRG duh I live close by been there hundreds of times do you live in Ky ? I thought you had a hillbilly accent lol just joined your channel love watching.
Thank you, Jason :D And yeah that's a sketchy spot where a lot of people climb down on top of. I was on level ground up above it not in danger. I'm to afraid to get close. A healthy respect for heights over here
Tip # 3. Fake News. 😂😂😂. I’ve used way dirtier water than that and my other filters are fine. BFree means BSuck 😂😂 Always have a blast hanging out with you. That Indian Staircase area is so beautiful. Especially where we seen the sunset. Can’t wait for our next adventure together brother. Awesome video 👍👍

Great trip video! You really should do more of them.
Lol yeah it was a happy, but sad day seeing the beard go. I will def do more in 2021 :D Always appreciate the support you give, Missy!!
Aw, I love that platypus...too bad it gave up the ghost! Love this place - i need to get back there!
Time to replace :D That's okay, she did her job for a while lol
Okay...
That is EPIC!!!
Great video.
Thank you very much, Gail 😃
I'll have to go back out there to check that out :D There is so much to check out in the Gorge 🙌
Hiking in the tropics. Can't start cold. What am I doing wrong? 😉
Lol that's okay
Great videos I didn't know where you were at first RRG duh I live close by been there hundreds of times do you live in Ky ? I thought you had a hillbilly accent lol just joined your channel love watching.
Lol born and raised in the KY. Love the gorge
Interested to checkout johns channel. As a big boy myself stuff doesn’t fit or is too heavy to carry
John has a great channel :D
Man! No chance I’m doing that staircase! I’d still be frozen in place clinging to the rock for dear life.
It's pretty fun, but not for everyone
I am glad I am not the only one using weight gloves,.
They are hand savers :D
What time of the year is this??
That was in December
Check out hydrapak! Incredible quality and fits the be free filter.
Thank you, Nikolas :D
I’m 41 and at 6:35 I was shook and my balls quivered when you slid up to that lip not tied in. Please be careful I’m starting to dig your vids! Cheers
Thank you, Jason :D And yeah that's a sketchy spot where a lot of people climb down on top of. I was on level ground up above it not in danger. I'm to afraid to get close. A healthy respect for heights over here
Going up stuff like that is way easier than going down it. That’s freaking scary.
Totally right
Tip # 3. Fake News. 😂😂😂. I’ve used way dirtier water than that and my other filters are fine. BFree means BSuck 😂😂
Always have a blast hanging out with you. That Indian Staircase area is so beautiful. Especially where we seen the sunset. Can’t wait for our next adventure together brother.
Awesome video 👍👍
Lol I’ve never told fake news 😂😂 I’m using the Sawyer squeeze though lol Always have. A blast with you too bro 😎
with your height (6"4) is that enough room?
I'm about 6'3". I wish it were a few inches longer, but it gets the job done
8:49 started at the bottom now we're here ;)
lol oh yeah 🙌
Nice Video. 👍Tipps for the titles: If it’s called: „seven Tipps for the Backpacker“ I would prefer a faster speed. If the title is : „This and that trail, vlog or something like that“ I enjoy the slower paced videos a lot.
Good tips :D I should also include time stamps on a video like this
That looks like an awesome area. Check out the cliff dwellings video I uploaded, you'd probably like that area as well.
Is it the Los Alamos video?
@@JeremiahStringer yeah.
@@JeremiahStringer I was using kind of a crappy camera that I just upgraded. Quality isn't the greatest but it's an awesome area.
Got married at rrg. Definitely gonna check this out
An awesome place to get married :D
@@JeremiahStringer ya and that was 11 yrs ago. Just got into backpacking since the c19. Wish I'd of discovered it much sooner. I live near dayton ohio so I'll be back for sure
Is that a new backpack?
It is :D Took it out the past couple days
18:28 red in the morning, sailors take warning
I had never heard that
@@JeremiahStringer seriously? With a red sunrise, you’re likely to have rain within about 48 hours. Maybe I’m showing my age 😂🤣
Red sky at night-Sailors delight.
@@nobison6185 yep. That’s the other half of it.
Or maybe you are just much wiser than I lol
Giving Bob Ross of Backpacking vibes
That's good company to be in
i could never climb up that lol thats scary
Lots of fun
Frankly, up wasn't the hard part. Down would be scary... But I suppose you'd be going down the other side.
Went down on trail instead of the staircase lol
That was a gorge us trip lol
Lol indeed it was :D
What's with your new fans Jeremiah?! Looks like they have lost their clothes. Haha!!
Lol yeah I have to report them every video. Dang bots XD
Go UK. Watching the game and they winning over MSU.
Disappointing loss for sure
@@JeremiahStringer Yep. I spoke too soon.
