Losing Adele Lim is truly a blow as she is the one whom injected the Singaporean and Malaysian flairs into the first movie (she is a Malaysian herself) for which without it the movie would have lost its charms. Her pay gap issue a serious and legitimate one but no one seems to bother, which is saddening in 2022.
It's crazy how they brush it off and quick to replace her. Something about that dont sit right with me.

The second book also has the story of Kitty Pong (Nick's cousin Alistair's Ex Girlfriend). I read the book many times already and her story needs to be in the movie. It's better if I do not spoil it but I am sure that IT NEEDS TO BE IN THE MOVIE. If they plan to have a third movie then Kitty's backstory is crucial if they include her rivalry with Colette Bing.
I super agree. Honestly, I find her character annoying at first (first book) but eventually loved it bc she was written so damn funny and their rivalry was super animated. And not to exaggerate but she's one of the most important characters in the series. Plus I still hate the part where they made Ali's character an asshole when he's actually one of the nice guys.

There's only so much you can squeeze into 2 hours. Kwan has a lot of characters in his books. In book 3, they had 4 parts because it started to get confusing. I think a miniseries would be a great option.
I thought that China Rich Girlfriend was more about Colleen Bing and Carlton (Rachel's brother) girlfriend and not Astrid. The Astrid and Charlie relationship does get fleshed out more in the next book. And also, Kitty's life. I can't wait to see how they weave the first movie and the book.

Carlton was my 2nd fave character in the books and there was no conflict between Rachel and him. And I still can't get over the fact that the made Alistair one of the "bad guys" when he's one of the sweetest characters, and my favorite, altho he was seldomly mentioned in the books.

Whom would you cast as Colleen Bing & Carlton Bao? Carlton's said to bear a strong resemblance to Rachel, so please keep that in mind. Colleen is either a VERY young Millennial or a Gen Z.
But the end of the movie shows that Elenor accepts Rachel. She gives Nick her ring to prove that. (I think the book says that Elenor didn’t want Nick and Rachel to deal with the same things she and her husband dealt with but I’m not sure)
She didn’t give Rachel her ring in the books! That’s why I like the movies better ahah

I think so too. as non american asian who spent few years in the US in my early 20s in late 90s , most if not all asian american friends i know back then all speaks with black accent english. And style wise most of them sporting black clothing style. Back then i was just thinking it make alot of sense as non white americans they would prefer to lean toward african american for styles or speaking accent. So i was just surprised when reading news that Awkwafina got problems being accused using blaccent to gain fame.cos i honestly thought that was just how young asian american speaks and act ,judge by my time in US hanging out with asian american.

She's faking it. If you listen to her interviews she speaks completely different. She uses her blaccent to gain notoriety, much like Anjelah Johnson did for her famous nail salon joke.

I enjoyed the movie and the three books. While Rachel may be a college professor, the lessons she learns on that trip to Singapore about people, their actions, and the power of money are invaluable life lessons. She is a good person at heart, and the Young family should be proud to have her----even though she's not in their financial league.

As a person who has read the whole trilogy, it wouldn’t make sense bcuz Eleanor gave approval to Rachel in the movie, while she didn’t in the book. And, Rachel wouldn’t have met her father without Eleanor being estranged. So I’m curious to see how this will turn out :D

Her Dad was also involved in politics. There is so much she states from the book that is not correct. Having just read the books, it is an issue
It is not true that she found out about her father with nick’s help. In the books his mother is responsible without nick knowing. So this is an inaccurate verbal summary.

I think Awkwafina should come back. Peik Lin is set to marry Alistair and their marriage is the highlight after the main casts saved Tyersall Park Estate. Also, it was Peik Lin's private jet they used when they saved Rachel from poisoning.

James Cameron needed the appropriate technology required to properly film underwater scenes without there being any compromise to the sound and this technology wasn’t available then! That’s why he waited so long! So the viewing experience for us is that much better. I think the 2nd movie has the potential to surpass the 1st movie’s box office!

Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr need to lead the 2nd movie. Subplot can be Carlton and Kitty, even Peik and Alistair, but Astrid and Charlie need to be the A couple.
Visually, the wedding scene was amazing in the first movie, but I still don't know if I would want to basically wade into a swamp to get to the altar. 🤔🤣

Can't wait. Only problem I had with 1st one is that Rachel's love interest, while he loved her, didn't back her up when she needed him. Made him look weak. You don't do that to someone you love. But then again it might screw up the story. Lol
Yeah exactly. that's the same issue i had with the whole first movie too, he was not a very good partner to her so the whole storyline fell flat for me. Feel like getting his mom's approval wasn't that much of a prize because the mans himself wasn't much of a prize anyway.
