- This video how to make Relay OFF time delay timer by using NPN transistor and Capacitor, first of (B)base touch to positive voltage so the capacitor also gets charged fully, remove to wire through the power to the base gets disconnected, the transistor continues to conduct with the aid of the stored energy in the capacitor which now starts discharging its stored charge via the transistor.The Relay also stays switched ON until the capacitor gets fully discharged.
The value of the capacitor determines the time delay or for how long the transistor stays in the conducting mode.

something similar i would need. My plasma cutter has no post flow setting so air solenoid valve(220Vac) turning off immediately so no cooling for torch. What i need is When relase torch trigger air solenoid would be open for 20 seconds more so the relay coil would stay energized for 15-20 seconds. How could i do that the simpliest?

I am trying to deliver constant power to an led turn signal light for a motorcycle when the turn signal is on. The light has a board built in that allows the turn signal to scroll across the lens. The problem is my motorcycle delivers pulsing power via the switch. Can I use this method without the transistor to deliver a constant feed such as this?
Looks easy and Timing is perfect but can this be used to turn off CHECK ENGINE Light LED or other lights like AirBag or ESP after 37seconds for my old VW Audi A3 it's over 20 years old and some things just aren't worth fixing So I want lights gone after like 1 minute to not distract me when driving.
How do you calculate the delay?
You used a 1000 uF/25v capacitor and got a 37 seconds delay
Is this the equation and can you just add a multipler ?:
1000 uf / 37 s ~ 27 uF pr. second.
Meaning a 5 seconds delay requires a 135 uF/25v capacitor.
what do I do if I want without a switch?. So from the battery directly delay the circuit.

You must always use a flyback diode when using a transistor as a switch for a relay in order to eliminate flyback and protect the transistor.
Where to use diode??

As long as the relay can handle the load requirement. I made a 555 timer that can drive a load upto 1250W.

use the 555 timer circuit instead. The timing delay time is always dependent on the capacitor with this circuit..since car voltages is not always stay at 12 volts,

I have 9500uF of capacitors and the circuit laid out how you have it. I only get 6 seconds of delay before power is exhausted and circuit opens. Any thoughts on where I went wrong?
check capacitor polarity
POWER GEN it is definitely polarized correct. Maybe relay resistance too high? It's a spdt 12v micro relay

Rama Palmer, the capacitor discharge rate is controlled by the resistor connected to the transistor base. I note that in the schematic it shows a 10k resistor but in the parts list it is a 1k resistor. Check the value of your resistor, it should be 10k. Also, increasing the resistor value will increase the delay, at least to a point. If the resistor value is too high then it won't turn the transistor on enough to close the relay. Experiment with different values.

Edit: So I tried a 10k variable resistor, and I can change the duration, but it's not that simple. As You decrease the value of the resistor, you need to add resistance between the 12+ and the switch to regulate the current. Of course this makes the capacitor take longer to charge, so you have to hold the switch longer.

You can use AC-DC adapter. Or make a rectifier circuit.

Add flyback diode across relay coil. Cathode on + end of relay coil. Without it collapsing coil current could destroy transistor.

Use your imagination here, instead of putting the 3 volts led supply..just add 1k resistor and tap to the cathode side of the led, and the anode of the led goes to the main power. The relay contact will goes to the end of the resistor, since the circuit is always online with 12 volts supply. Make it simpler.
ofcourse this circuit will only give delay time depending on load how fast they consume what is stored in capacitor

You can use either; it depends how quickly you want the capacitor to discharge. The greater the resistance, the slower the discharge and the longer the LED will stay on.

اعتقد يجب ان تكبر حجم ال(condesateur ) الى 2700uf/25v لكن لا اعلم ان كانت هذه القطع تتحمل امبير بطارية السيارة اتمنى ان تخبرني ان جربتها و عملت معك بشكل صحيح 😊
