    I must say it's so refreshing to see men of my generation discussing and talking about God, Christ, and the Scriptures - and being laid back, but serious about it, rather than skeptical and scoffing. I wish there were more men like you in the world. Praying for your ministry to be blessed.

    Love the new behind the scenes of the videos!! Also I think it's a great idea since I know you two fine chaps and think the audience wants to see the two homies behind the epic videos. Also that's probably the first time chaps and homies has ever been in the same sentence lol

    I had an idea that you should do profile videos about important people in the Bible, like Moses and others. You could go into more detail about their story and how it played into the themes of the books.
    And I hope when this is all done you guys release an art book. That would be amazing!

    Thanks for what you’re doing. I really appreciate it. To all reading this: send The Bible Project some money so they can keep doing this! The part that I appreciated most in this teaching on Numbers is that God was protecting his people from Balam's attempted cursing - even when they had no idea that it was going on. I had never thought of it in that way before. God guards us all the time, not only when we recognize it! There's so much that we don't know that God protects us from. Thanks be to God!
    I think you guys nailed it when you said that the problem with Moses hitting the rock instead of speaking to it to get the water (as God told him to do) is that he was disrespecting God and God’s people through that whole scene. He was building himself up too, which is generally not a good idea. But why hit the rock in the first place? I’ve been told that the hills in the Sinai are made of a porous sandstone that traps water from the rare rains. This water would just seep out as fast as it goes in except that it dissolves salts in the stone and carries these salts with it as it seeps out the of the rock. As soon as the water hits the surface it evaporates, leaving the salts behind, which form a coating on the rock preventing further water reaching the surface and evaporating. The water piles up in the rock, building up a considerable pressure. Travelers have learned to wack the rock, breaking the salt seal and letting the water pour out, often with quite a bit of pressure.
    The point then is that anyone in the know could wack the rock and get the water, but speaking to the rock wouldn’t work - unless God made it so. So instead of Moses giving all the glory to God he was grabbing it for himself - “I did this for you” in other words. Bad choice on his part. Of course, WE never do anything like that, right?
    That was taught to me by Dr. James Fleming who was leading a group of seminary students through a 3 week tour of Israel (yikes- could that have been 32 years ago!). You can read more about him at www.biblicalresources.net/about-biblical-resources.cfm
    Any comments about the reasonableness of this bit of learning?
    Thanks again. May you always recognize the blessings of God. I recognize them in you!

    One thing I think you should change is the titles for these behind the scene type videos. They should relate to the video they came off of. You can keep the "what is manna part" but maybe reshape the title to be something like, "The Book Of Numbers: What IS Manna?" or some other title. Or don't. Its up to you guys, just trying to help make this awesome project awesomer.

    You guys are doing a fantastic job. This is helping me in a Bible study I'm leading with new believers and maybe some nonbelievers, as we're attempting to lay the foundation of the Old Testament so the New Testament makes sense.
    You obviously are pretty educated in the Old Testament, you do a great job of summarizing complicated books quickly; which is a real skill and needed for today's millennial short-attention span types. May God bless you both and I hope you continue to take your mission very seriously.

    There is actually such a thing as natural manna and you can actually buy it from rare spice dealers. It occurs in the settings of sappy fragrant plant and insect-related dust forming globules with the moisture in the air so that in the morning when it condenses it dries into flakes and beads.

    HELLO FROM AUSTRALIA :) i dont know if anyone has already said this, Manna, when said in Assyrian, means "plate"....dont know if there was ever meant to be a literary connection there, but when i first read this a little light bulb went off in my head. it is so fascinating how words from different languages can in some way relate. Thank you for your videos, i watch each one more than once as a study reference. Sending many blessings!

    Is it mushroom? It only grows in the specific environment.
    I named my daughter “Mana” from Manna, the gift from God from sky, and also used Japanese kanji character “愛” which reads mana but means “love”. In English country, her teachers always pronounce her name manna, that’s when she comes home and tells me he/she is Christian. I recently got to know your channel and starting from the oldest video. Thank you, this is perfect for born again from non Christian country, non Christian family living in North America, confused...

    I used your video on the Book of Numbers on Dec. 3, 2019. Our Life Group began our first lesson on a study of the book that began with chapter 9, verse 15 and the 7 week study of the book will not deal with many of the chapters because like your video the writer had to choose what he viewed as the major emphasis. Your video allowed me to give the class an overall view of Numbers that was very helpful. Thank you for your work.

    Love these videos guys! You all do an awesome job and I can see that there's a lot of hard work that goes into them :) I was wondering if you guys have specific sources/resources you use or know of to help shape the context to the Old Testament? For example, part of understanding the writings in the bible, both New and Old Testament, is to understand culture, history, traditions, etc. Apart from going to seminary, is there any practical suggestions you guys would have? Just wanted to add to that I've been so blessed by your hard work and am praying that the Lord would bless you guys in increasing measure. Sorry my question wasn't video specific.

    These videos are so great! I have recommended them to my teens I teach in youth group. Thank you for what you are doing! Moses getting disqualified from entering the promised land by striking the rock...I was taught that by striking the rock instead of speaking to it, Moses was relying on his own past experience (from Ex 17) instead of relying on God's word, and that's why he was punished so strongly for it. What are your thoughts on that?

      [context] a couple of years ago I attended a (probably a type of evangelical denominational) church meeting quite a bit out of my own residential area (primarily actually (within initial intent) because one of my aunts of my mothers root family; hence I was only a guest visitor a few times (because I hold my aunt dear - attempt to some semi-humor here -); - _ )
      [main content] according to the preacher the intent of God instructing Moses & Aaron through at least seemingly humble prayer (both lay on the ground as in a submissive stance) to NOT hit the hidden water fountain rock with the rod but absolutely rather speak to it was NOT (only???) about checking the rate of obedience of Moses, but to foreshadow Jesus Christ as the ultimate redeemer of sins (under the condition to faithfully follows God's & the Lord's command(ments): ...
      ... however it primarily was God's intent to foreshadow that Jesus (symbolized as being 'The Only Sufficiently Steady Rock' to build & trust on) would be suffer on the cross & in the three days & three nights in the core of this very planet we ONLY and REALLY only ONCE and that would be enough for the redemption gift of God to sinful mankind for the rest of the pre-judgement-days. Hence God was so dissappointed that Moses was not allowed to enter the Holy Land alive.
      [sharing my personal conclusion(s)]
      1. God is very strict in His commands;
      2a. God is that kind of strict in His rule because He might have hidden plans which such as the one mentioned above here;
      2b. in case God would share His more profound intentions at least the surprise effect for later readers of Holy Scripture would be largely if not fully diminished that gets Bible readers more positively connected with His Word by the curiosity He generates... at least as you NOT handle the contents of Holy Scripture by just only reading it a superficial level;
      3a. (actually a remark, not a conclusion): my biological brother once sad in the sphere of my root family that love (in general) should be accompanied with understanding;
      3b. does the representative Body of Christ on Earth [including the person which currently is also the human grade author here] genuinely long for understanding God without being inappropriately curious for whatever vain reason(s)?
      3c. please note directly here again: being curious to whom God is for selfish reason is disrespecting Jesus's --- brain error, maybe later more; just maybe... oh wait: between being just christian and being WITH Christ Jesus there might be a small -D.V.- opportunity for something like 'engagement times': NOT engagement with the slippery sloped secular world, but proverbial engagement like in the sense of the coming of the Divine Marriage;
      [a call for you to scrutinize myself by lightly advocating others do also some research on it] your feedback is welcome, it seems to me that my brain messed with me again since the latter part of this comment has become quite off-topic (pardon me on this please, dear reader).

    I realize this video was made a long time ago, but here’s my two cents. like how this video shows us the real you (if that makes sense). We already get a great sense of your personalities, which is cool. But, we get a sense of the “process” in this video. Now, the noise is distracting, which is annoying, but it’s also apart of the process as well - the energy of the projects. It’s not something I’d want to see all the time due to the background noise, but every now and then it’d be ok.

    There are certain ancient river rocks that were hollow and had water inside them. Hitting the rock would break it open causing water to come out of it. Moses didn't trust God, that was the issue. Hitting the rock was Moses depending on himself and not relying on what God told him to do.

    One thing that is brought up was how you have to be intentional in deciding what the videos include. I was watching the Matthew videos, I was waiting for the story of Pilate and Barabbas because there is a great parallel of humanity (us) being Barabbas but I see how that could distract from the overall flow of the videos... Anyways, thanks for the videos.

    You all should listen to "So You Want to Go Back to Egypt" by Keith Green. At the end of the song he does something quite funny with the manna.

    At Numbers 20:10 Moses said, "Must we bring out water for you from this crag?" So, he was giving glory to himself and Aaron before Jehovah.

    This may be a bit late but thought I should share. I think Manna would look more like brown stones (like on your illustration) but in smaller clusters not a white blob. This would probably look more like a white coriander seed from your earlier description than a blob. This was known to the Hebrews, and I suppose they would later consider manna precious or of some importance because they compared this to the stone bdellium which is a precious stone or fragrant resin like myrrh found with gold in the land of Havilah. I'm guessing manna would look a bit like rock candy or turkish delight and it has a bitter taste. God probably wanted them to burn it for the temple like incense. Also a tidbit for yah, in my mother tongue, mana means blessing or inheritance which probably came from our ancient ancestors Austro-Poly meaning 'power, effectiveness, or prestige.' Hope that gives you more insight on this matter.

    What do you guys think about doing a video or discussion on marriage and how it's a reflection of our relationship with God?

    Honestly I think your content is great, and I'm a Catholic. When it comes to wrapping up books of the Bible into shorty easily digestible videos, you're always going to have to leave things out and ultimately disappoint someone. At the end of the day, these are great little videos to help clear up some things and the overall message, and is by no means a replacement for actually reading the Bible, so with that said, people shouldn't really be upset.

    In the book of Job, doesn't God in so many words at the end say that Job's sin is pride and that Job counted his own righteousness instead of being righteous through God?

    For the longest time, I thought Donkey in the Shrek movies was Balaam's Donkey placed in a fairy tale world, based on this question: Did the donkey ever stop talking after that beating? Shrek movies were already anachronistic so it seemed likely, especially when in Shrek 2, Donkey says that there was this party, everyone was beating me with a stick saying "Piñata! Piñata!", but it doesn't hold much water compared to the theory that Donkey was one of the boys that was turned into a donkey that could still talk from Pinocchio, especially since Pinocchio was in the movies too.

    Hi Tim and Jon, here is a question that always bugged me. On the book of Exodus, the Bible says that God hardened the heart of the Pharaoh from letting the Hebrews go. Does it mean that God could have softened his heart, so the Pharaoh would have said: "ya, sure. go away!" :) just wondering. p.s. love the videos!

    can you do a video of our Father tracing back from old to new? some people I've come across had no idea that God was know as a father to the Hebrew generation, they thought it was a new idea for the new testament that yahsua came up with.
