SEA remains the GOLD standard! Bravo everyone! I'm not surprised at all to see that such talented people are still coming into the program as teachers and crew. The asea portion for me is the component that brings the whole experience full circle and offers the greatest possibilities for the greatest growth in the students. It galvanizes their sense of community and the absolute importance of the individual to the whole. It's nearly 40 years since I met Wallace Stark aboard Sea Cloud as well as Phil Sacks, both consummate professionals and who contributed so much to SEA over the years. Wallace hired me into shipyard back in 92 I recall, to do some rigging work on Westward and Corey. My AB & Bosun when I was Chief Mate on Californian back in 91, went to work for SEA for many years, Jen Irving. Jen is perhaps the most complete seaman I have ever known! Keep teaching self-reliance and the importance of the individual to the whole as well as the science, with great people across the shore and sea components and in another 50 years others be watching another of these videos and being awed and inspired! Again BRAVO! Fair winds, Paul Bongé Master Oceans, Master Sail (Retired)
So glad to see you involved in this Chris! I’ve watched your celestial navigation series many, many times, and they were essential to me in finally gaining some ability. You’re an insightful teacher. Bravo!
I've only watched the video but it's enough to convince me of the immense value of doing a program such as this for personal development alone as well as all the professional skills to be acquired.
This is a fantastic video and an amazing experience for young people. Thanks so much for sharing. This video reminded me of everything I enjoy about teaching. Way to go!
I used to do sail trailing on a traditional vessel on the south coast of England (Queen Galadrial). Recently I have been sailing commercial tallships (events and such) but this gave me enourmous nostalgia for the sail training I used to do. I am for sure going back to sail training once it is possible again. Cheers Chris, for reminding me how much I love sail training. This is an awesome insight into what sail training is all about.
Really incredible program. Wish I would've known about this much younger. The sea still found a way around my soul. Hope to see you guys on the water someday! We'll be in a much smaller vessel named Stella Maris. Would love to meet with the crew! Fair winds! - Brandon
Man, I am so jealous right now... There's nowhere I'd rather be than crossing oceans. This was a beautiful short film, Chris, very well made and produced like a real pro. I guess I need to keep watching the celestial navigation clips in hopes one day I'll set sail myself.
schooner rig. I really prefer ketch rigs. sailed on a 60 footer (at the waterline) years ago. double ended steel ketch with a full keel. if you wanna see something similar look at the "Joshua".. Moitessier's boat. that boat sailed around the horn several times in the 60's. nice weather this time of year and they're far enough North to stay out of hurricane paths as they rarely get above 30N on their westerly crossings.
On some programs, we keep the student devices locked up for the voyage so they can focus on the shipboard community, not all programs but the big ocean ones we usually do that. I think it is a good thing. We have internet for weather and emergency communications but not for general browsing. Thanks!
Man, I'm a Cape Codder. I'm no scientist, but if I was 10 years younger, still single, and didn't have any kids I would have jumped at any opportunity to serve as a deckhand on this vessel. Just to learn to sail a proper ship.
This would be a great trip except I am now 82 and I know my limitations. We have tried as much as we could in our younger years and sailing a tall ship on the ocean got missed. We did take a ship from Italy to Australia but it wasn't the same as sailing. Ah to be able.......

This video is well put together and edited; the characters are real and the theme unique! Thanks for the post and music links.

What an amazing opportunity for students!
Beautiful story. Chris’s TH-cam celestial navigation videos inspired me to learn celestial navigation, and I’m thankful for that.
Absolutely outstanding , well done

Thank you for this Captain Chris! As a student I much more appreciated the deck Navigation watch and its complexity

Море пароплави це класно.які Ви щасливі перебуваючи на такому чудесному пароплаві і воочію любуєтесь красотіщей Божественої природи.
Great video!
I want to sail like this someday though I am not a mariner but some day I would
I don't see any smartphone on the ship. Why is it so? and is the internet available ?

Smart phones are only good for life ashore, radio is used at sea.
How many days was that voyage to Europe ?
We took about 30 for the crossing but it was an academic program so we weren't going super fast!

The "boat" is not 134 feet long, although a marina manager would charge them for it.
No trips to Antarctica?
Nice trip. I really wanna join.
Plenty of bunks on the boat! www.sea.edu to apply, and students are accepted in many age groups and from many schools/countries.
I'm living in Vietnam, I dont know if there is a chance for me to join ?
You need the Pony Trainer to help????
Yes indeed! I still have my sextant satchel too :)
@@NavigationTraining I'm headed back to Eagle for a couple weeks
I like plumbing
I wish I could do this so bad.

Those tables …
Yes they are really cool until someone leans against one underway and everything spills....makes for good table manners!
