    I've heard of the "X" rotation method, but I guess I never thought about it being good for smoothing out off road chopping/cupping.

  • @surfordie82
    @surfordie82 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Good to hear that a little bit of cupping ("ramping") is considered normal on AT tires mounted in the front. At about 8500 miles on my Cooper AT3s (vehicle is a GX460 with IFS and full time 4WD), I noticed some ramping on the outside tread blocks of the front tires. Just rotated them today. I've been worried that I'll need to do a tie rod or ball joint replacement in the near future... and that may still be the case, but it sounds like 5k mile tire rotations will help mitigate this wear.

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @surfordie82 any worn out steering parts will definitely add premature wear to your tires, so get those checked out. Other than that, if your alignment is good and you rotate your tires every 5k, this way you will be golden. There is nothing more you can do other than play with air pressure a bit. Usually, about 20% above OEM recommendation does provide a little less wear to the tires. Especially in the front edges.

    What happens if you do the X pattern every rotation

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The tire will go back and forth between 2 of the 4 corners. Same as just doing forward and backward. If you do not alrernate, you lose the benefit of the tire rotating through all 4 corners of the vehicle.

    Thank You man! I’ve been bad about rotating, especially back when I didn’t know crap about it. On this new set of 35x12.5x20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers I have on my 2020 F350 single wheel long bed, I decided it was time to preserve the tires as long as possible, especially since they’re so dayum expensive haha I wanted to know the best way to have them rotated, when and if it changed based on many different factors…..and it does haha Appreciate you

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Im glad i could help! And yes unfortunately tires are big investment. Keeping the tire pressure in check and frequent tire rotations are the most you can do to keep them lasting a long life. Also a tire balance at half life will do help a ton as the balance changes as the tire is wearing down.

    Front to back first time but how come the ride of the car is rough it feel like the tires are squared? Since I moved the front tires to the back any explanation for that?

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Tires can feel louder or rougher if they are having a wear, cupping, or feathering. When the worse tires are in the front, you will feel it more. Also, vibrations can be from an unbalanced tire or out of round tire. Many times, you won't feel the issue in the rear, but once it's rotated to the front, you will feel it.

    • @josephrobi6806
      @josephrobi6806 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@automotiveandmore Great and also I did not criss cross the front tires that probably make it worst but not dangerous?

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @josephrobi6806 as long as the tires are not directional or staggered, they can be in any position on the vehicle. No added danger by rotating them in any way.

    Does there need to be a re balance?

    • @automotiveandmore
      @automotiveandmore  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @kingo6063 not unless you star feeling a vibration. Sometimes when tires get some wear and lose some weight, the tires need to get re balanced. Usually at about half life.
