2:08 HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE THAT 😂 That is now officially my new favorite moment. omfg from the back of the crowd too someone yelling, "What is wrong with that man??" 😂
Lots of fun choices. I honestly just noticed that Daniel referred to Louis drinking from that guy as "sucking him off". Interesting choice of words, particularly combined with him wondering how Rashid tastes.
Daniel's relationship with his own sexuality and how he projects it onto Louis and "Rashid" is a very interesting topic i’m excited to see explored in season two, especially in the 80s
Apparently, biting in sucking blood is analogous to sex for vampires. So Louis was doing the vampire-equivalent of performing fellatio in front of Daniel, especially with Armand.
It actually gets so sad seeing how she went from being one of his favored things second to Louis, to him despising her bc Louis was still upset at him for forcing vampirism onto him. He just knew she was the one thing stopping Louis from leaving him for good. Like the drastic change from him doting on her and being proud to teach her to embrace vampirism, overall bonding with her, to lacking sympathy and forcing his own unresolved issues on her and calling HER the problem… He is def the parent who hates when you grow up and form your own identity separate from them. She was becoming what Louis wanted to avoid being and with Lestat being her maker, it was a lot more personal. That’s why he called her the prodigal daughter. I hate how so many people say he put up with her for Louis but there are times when you see that despite him making her for him, he has his own relationship with her outside of it all.
What perspective do we see here? Is it Louis’ memory of Claudia’s retelling, or did Louis “see” it, in Claudia, and it’s that memory? Coz it *is* incredibly hard to watch. And I know Lestat is a tyrant, and deserving of what happened to him in the series 1 finale… But I hate that he did this.
The film, to me, is viewed with rose tinted glasses by those that love it. It was the only Anne Rice media we had that wasn’t Queen of the Damned, and yet, we forget how much of the actual story was left out/changed due to the time it came out. I understand where some fans come from. It’s not an entirely “perfect” imagining of the book. But I love this version because it felt the closest to what I recall reading and seeing in the graphic novel. The period changed and there are elements altered to benefit a series, but this Lestat felt far more legitimate than the version Cruise portrayed as some cartoon. Yes, we’re seeing it through Louis’ eyes. But that hardly helps me see how he stayed so long. This version was toxic, capable of manipulation while also giving off the impression he was the victim all while we temporarily forgot what he had done to earn the malice moments before. You could actually see why Louis was in the mess he was in. Lestat was given a portrayal worthy of his existence. Louis was given a portrayal that was both frustrating and beautiful to behold. Claudia genuinely felt like she was an adult trapped in a child’s body. Bravo to AMC for this beautiful piece of work.
The only thing it partially dissapointed me was certain casting decision. I thought they were going to be faithful to the books this time but they went in another direction.
Yes, Anne Rice was involved in the production of the 2020 "Interview with the Vampire" series, which is based on her novel of the same name. However, she passed away in 2021 at the age of 80, before the series aired.
her young age was always meant to be tragic and disturbing, but this older version of her is definitely easier to stomach for more people. still terrible in its own way to be turned at 14, though.
Most likely but she might not have gotten yet if she was poor and malnourished. But even if she did if she wasn't actively on her period at the time of her death/transformation she'd probably never get it again.
Thank you for a few surprises among your choices. Side note: I wonder if Louis was not killing Lestat, but just trying to "kill" the facets of Lestat's personality he didn't like (that would give another explanation as to why he didn't make certain of total destruction).
thank you! i think it fits Louis' character to try and have his cake and eat it too, to try and eternally keep the Lestat that loves and cherishes him and all while keeping Claudia, even though this family cannot coexist and he cannot keep that side of Lestat without the side that's ugly
