Excluding Great Britain, the world’s five most populated islands are around the the perimeter called the Ring of Fire.
The most notable ones would have to be:
      - Mt. Fuji, which hasn’t erupted in over 300 years and is the tallest point in Japan, located in *Honshu*
      - Mt. Mayon, known for its stereotypical “volcano” shape and is, by the way, is still actively spewing out lava in the southern tip of *Luzon*
      - and Krakatoa, which is a caldera that sits in the waters between *Java* and *Sumatra,* known for creating one of the _loudest sounds in recorded history_ when it blew off its top in the late 1800s.

0:40 curious indeed, as the landmass area you state is due to the ice that covers & connects the archipelago hidden beneath a mile of ice. Without ice cover, the largest continuous landmass in the region would be significantly smaller, maybe even after thousands of years of rebounding from the weight of that ice.

I've also been on a sand bar in the middle of the Potomac, because for whatever reason, that's where one of DC's airports is. It's literally nothing more than a sand bar in the river. So you decide whether that counts.

The narrator wants to be thoughtful by claiming the afroeurasian landmass is the largest island, but it's not. Islands are different from continents. Geologists classify this landmass as three separate continents, but I'm not sure why it's three and not two with one having recently collided with the other larger one to the north.

since continents are ill defined and a rather redundant and not 1 on 1 corresponding way to class tectonic plates we might as well just discard the continent idea as "large landmasses surrounded by water" which as you correctly state already defines islands , even if we take the general continent idea then we note that they are somewhat defined by tectonic plates, as long as theres land on it in significant amounts and not to complex for feeble brains (ural mountain range, himilaya) , generally the interpretation is different, to me "oceania" is a continent not "australia", this is based on plate tectonics and more profound biogeology, issue here being that life and the planet is dynamic not fixed making the classification fun as classifications ever are, but redundant and useless, so yes might as well state in the very least that australia is an island (with several islands around it) , america not so much due to the panama canal (enter discussions if man made water ways count) same for euroasiaafrica with in the very least the seuz canal spliting africa from europe, at least for now since the east of africa will eventually crash into arabia and iran and the west of africa will crash into the european plate closing both the gulf of aden as the mediterenean , likely we will long be dead or have forgotten today at any rate but still, it will happen

I like that you started by admitting that the idea of an island is a social construction. That being said, I've been to most of these places. Don't go to Java if you're an alcoholic like me, because it's largely Muslim. But the northern parts have good scuba diving. Honshu is nice but I'd recommend the less populated islands of Japan. Strangely I have been to Mindanao and never heard about the terrorism, but Cebu is probably a better destination in the Philippines. Skip out on Manila, it's a dump. I've been to Mumbai but I had to google that it's an island? It doesn't seem like one. Madagascar is the only one that really surprised me. Never been there, and I always thought it had a lower population.

Reneo stretches across three different countries. We'd rather say three different countries stretch across the island of Borneo. Backwards talking.

Java might no longer be the most populated island soon. Since they are moving their capital to Borneo, as Jakarta is sinking into the ocean, millions of people will leave the island. That could potentially make Honshu the most populated within the next few years.

even if the whole Jakarta metro moves to the new Capital, it would be still number one. Also Jakarta will stay the economical heart after moving the capital, because all the industry is already there.
The new capital will boost the development of Borneo, but it will take time until it takes over Java.

How? Jakarta only has 11 million people and only North Jakarta that is prone to sinking. Jakarta was, is, and will always be the economic center of Indonesia. Plus Java has other cities, millions of others who live in other cities won't leave their homes for Borneo.

Experience shows that removing the capital so late in a country's history does little to reduce the population of that city. Abidjan, Dar es Salaam, Lagos, New York, Rio de Janeiro are all still way more populated than the cities or regions that succeeded them.
Meanwhile, we have to consider the context of Japan's shrinking population while Indonesia is still growing, and the logical conclusion would be that Java will retain its crown.
