bummer on the handmaid's tale - i've been wanting to read it, but i love hearing all perspectives so thanks for sharing. I LOVE that you work audiobooks into your reading life, they are a big part of mine as well! I've missed your videos! Prayers that your infection continues to improve : )
Girl About Library Thank you so much for saying that! It makes my day! Audiobooks are an amazing way to read when you aren't feeling overly fabulous, which can be a lot of the time for me! I always try and have a physical book and an audiobook on the go at the same time 😊📚 x
Audio book rec I'll always give: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I am specifically referring to the graphic audio version though, which is a bit more of an investment. What you could also do is check out the Great Bazaar or Brian's Gold by Peter V Brett. These are two short stories in his Demon Cycle world that take place during the times of the first novel: The Warded Man. I really like the book so far and also liked the excerpts of the Graphic Audio version I heard. It is way darker than Mistborn and has a horror almost as a second genre (the bloody kind mostly).
I absolutely loved listening to Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom because they also have a cast of narrators, as does Illuminae (which I also loved!) If you're into urban fantasy or want to give it a try, I can highly recommend The Others by Anne Bishop (the first one being Written in Red). I'm currently listening to Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and I'm enjoying it very much.
I didn't get on well with 'The Handmaid's Tale' either, I think I only got to like chapter 3 before getting bored and picked up something else, which was disappointing because i expected to enjoy it too. My favourite audiobook is 'The Ocean at the End of the Lane' by Neil Gaiman, which is recorded by Gaiman too, and he has such a wonderful and soothing voice that's just perfect for the book. If you haven't read/listened to that then I really recommend it. I hope you're recovering and feel better soon~
lykaiosreads So glad to have a fellow non Handmaids tale fan 😂 I wouldn't have stuck with it if I hadn't had the audiobook !! I am feeling a lot better thank you! 😊 x
Definitely going to pick up Notes from a Coma; I'm from Ireland and hardly ever come across books set here! One of the only books I've read set here that I didn't read for school was The Call by Peadar O Guilín. The hype around The Handmaids Tale is huge, I was going to read it but i think I'm going to wait a while until it dies down. I hate when hype makes my expectations too high and then I end up disappointed with the book.
Aideen G I was so happy to find a book from Ireland as well ! Hope you enjoy the Notes from a coma, it was very different but I enjoyed it 😄 x also thanks for the rec!! X
