Thanks again! I just love Berganza'a teaching, so warm and enthusiastic, and her face! You can watch an entire opera in it! I have actually accompanied her once, in rehearsal for "La Cenerentola" in 1973, she was very tired and marked her part most of the time. Once, in the duet, she started singing with her voice, but in a lower key. As I happen to have perfect pitch, I picked up her key and played in it, and received quite a surprised glance from her!
I sang with Mary-Elisabeth last Summer. She has grown into a wonderful dramatic soprano and is having a great career. And she deserves it!

Sorry, I think you've got the title wrong for this aria. "Perchè piangete" etc. belongs to the later convent scene.Irmak31 is right, this is Leonora's first scene, her entrance aria: "Tacea la notte e placida". Anyway it is sung with such beauty and conviction by this young lady that Berganza is visibly moved, as are probably all the rest of us.
@joanabanyeres Ms. Williams has already debuted three grand dames of opera: Aida, Tosca and Leonora, from Il Trovatore. The role of Leonora has gotten to be a staple these days; she has performed it every season since 2007. Williams made her role and house debut in Il Trovatore with Kentucky Opera in 2007, and in 2008, on the very same set, only this time on a stage in Indianapolis! Last winter, Mary Elizabeth was honored to sing Leonora a third time with the Seattle Opera.

She looks forward to continuting her Trovatore tradition in New Orleans in the Spring of 2011. Ms. Williams is also happy to report that she has more performances of Aida and Tosca on her calendar, in 2012 and beyond.

Non mi sorprende il fatto che non sa di fare la differenza tra una vocalità pucciniana e una verdiana.

She has some technical problems in the high notes, especially in the crescendos, but her pianissimi are wonderful!!

@BelleVoixClassique questa registrazione dal 2003 mostra un soprano che non sa cantare.
Questo "canto" e degno della scuola media musicale,e ancora... dipende dal paese...
