  • Perfect reel for perch or for light use for seatrout. Lures that I cast in this video was 1/2 Oz (15 g) or less. This is maximum what is nice to cast with this rod (St.Croix Avid AVC96MLF2). Reel is Daiwa Alphas ct sv: mistpool.com/fi/tuote/4007/da...
(Spool in reel is RSCS spool but it's similar to original, just red...)
Crank is borrowed from Tatula ct type-r (I like Tatula style knobs)

Hi there, Great video. I have been thinking about his reel for some time now when I found your video it kind of raised few questions...I am mainly plaining to set up this reel with Daiwa's 9' Luvias (7-32g) rod mainly for meritaimen fishing here in Finnish coasts...Do you think it will handle those lures up to 28g (which is the max I throw)? or is there any other reel that you would recommend for the meritaimen fishing ( I would like to have light and high gear ratio one)? Thanks a lot in advance!

It CAN handle, it's Compact and Tough, but line capacity of it is limited and 34 and 36 mm reels suits better to lures up to 28 g, and Magforce-Z is in my opinion usually better for seatrout in overall, because it casts longer. tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=76474&start=15
This ct reel _can_ be used for seatrout (light lurs and rod), but if only one reel is used, 34 mm and 36 mm are better.

Good video, never thought of the Alphas CT SV 70 as a capable sea-trout reel with that tiny 30 mm spool... is it?
So, since you have tried quite a few Daiwa reels an spools - witch one should I pick: the Alphas CT SV 70 the Alphas SV 105 or the new Zillion SV TW 1000?
I am intrigued with the SV-boost spool but not nessessary. I aim to throw 8-25g perch baits, jigs, hardbaits etc... and the reel must handle 10g twitchbaits well without beeing significantly hampered in distance with a 25g compact bait (jighead+trailer)...
Would the CT SV be your pick over the others or?

      Thanks,
Alphas is a little reel, but it is really sturdy. Brass gears and solid structure. Brake force of it is much stronger than actually needed for seatrout. Spool can take easily 115 m of Morethan 0.14 mm. Similar fullness of 0.16 mm Morethan is something 88 m. I tried to fit full spool of 0.14 mm. Spool could accommodate full spool of Morethan 0.14 mm (135 m) but then spool was all full. But as light seatrout reel, 115 m is in my opinion more than enough, I took excess line off, because it's better when spool is not too full. So in my opinion there is enough space for seatrout line in spool. It might be another story if mono line is preferred! But with suitable braided line, ct Alphas is enough for seatrout use, at least with in light use. I'm pretty sure that I will never get that big seatrout that I will loose that because of too little reel (ct Alphas).
      th-cam.com/video/x7eH9YhOS14/w-d-xo.html
ct Alphas is really sturdy and I have heard that someone casts 50 g lures with it. I believe it, why not, if wanted / needed (0.18 mm Morethan to spool and soft cast...why not). But reel is not meant for that, this is small reel. In my opinion it's best casting ~15 g. But it's Compact and Tough - in can take much more than 15 g if needed...
Only con of ct Alphas for seatrout use is that it is sv brake, and that mean Stressfree and Versatile acc. to Daiwa. Mainly people love that brake, but have to say, it's not distance tuned brake, and if distance is needed, then it's not correct reel. But still this casts further than I thought, and fishing from boat distances are enough. And casting is extreme easy in all conditions.
I have not tried sv boost spools, but it sounds promising.
But I hope that sv boost parts could be swapped to sv brakes :-)
We'll see if that is possible... Traditionally there is possible spool and / or inductor swaps available from Daiwa, which is in my opinion great point from Daiwa.
I think ct Alphas will perfect suite for you needs, but most probably sv boosted reel will outperform ct alphas in casting distance. So question is small nice Made in Japan reel or not so nice but better in casting distance reel.

Thank you for your extensive answer Jukka! Roughly 100m of 0.15 mm braid is more than plenty for my needs. As you say, the SV spool/Air brake are'nt made for distance, especially with a tiny 30 mm spool but the Alphas CT SV 70 seems quite capable and my major use would be accuracy rather than distance anyway. I have a T3 MX with an SLPW SV 1012 G1 spool and it's great combo, versatile and "safe" even with the 3D-brake set at "longcast" and I would like to have yet another Daiwa!
Agreed, it would be great if one could use the SV-boost parts on a regular SV-spool, time will tell if it will fit and work as intended!

@@kevythyrrakalastus1296 Good suggestion - as a matter of fact I am browsing the Japan Angler web site as we "speak"! Thought about the new Alphas as well but the price of the 2020 Zillion SV TW seems reasonable... all these choices! :-)
Have you bought from Japan Angler recently? I did a few years ago, no problem, but they seem to be out of stock on many listed items, are they in decline, in trouble I wonder...?

how does it held for saltwater application ?

Acc. to Daiwa, it's saltwater fine:

I don't have had issues of corrosion with my Daiwa reels. But there is not much salt in Bay of Finland...

@@kevythyrrakalastus1296 may i know what braid is that ? actually i am considering this and the 2020 tatula sv tw, mainly throwing lures from 5grams to occasionally 14grams, any idea which will cast further?

      @kevythyrrakalastus1296  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@roborovski008 Line in this ct Alphas is 0.14 mm, 27 lb, PE1.2 Daiwa Morethan 0.14 mm. Pretty perfect for light seatrout use, but expensive.
Line thickness does have effect in casting distance even in baitcasting reel.
And In sv spools spool doesn't necessary need all full. A little empty spool starts easier with lightest lures. (But this does not help with heavier lures.)

Still I like this reel very much. But long casting is not the point of these kind of little reel. But it turned longer casting by swapping Magforce-Z spring and Ray's inductor to it. I used whole day with that tuned up spool, without issues, casting 14 g inline spinner. Practically casting distances was comparable to bigger reels.
