I just came across him lately and instantly identified with the style - its' a very natural style that forms the melody out of the chord shapes you'd be playing anyway to accompany someone -you just have to swing it properly- course this style leads one to look at instruments from the 30s-50s and that's where Norman's comes in! 😄
Jonathan is truly the master of the Allan Reuss rhythm and chordal-solo style. I hope his playing and lessons attract more young guitarists to '30s and '40s swing.
I've always thought that the music we hear all the time is over orchestrated...why do we need more than Jonathan Stout playing an amazing guitar? So beautiful!!
Always love Norman's Rare Guitars, you just NEVER know what great musician is going to stop by. Some of the very best on this planet, and they all have something in common - they love Norm Why? Nor is a fantastic individual. Just look at the young people he helped give a start - MANY Thanks norm for keeping the music alive, and gathering and passing on great guitars to keep the music alive.. It Norms it is NOT "THE DAY THE MJUSIC DIED" thanks for all you do.. from SE Texas Bear ❤💯🙏
Was fortunate to find both a 1945 & 1947 Epiphone Emperor. While not quite as big as this Stromberg; they are LOUD! It's the only guitar that my string quartet complained was too loud!
Sixty years ago my first guitar teacher was Harry Kusselman. He had a beautiful old Stromberg archtop. He died back in the mid 1960s but he inspired me to keep up my lessons. God bless him.
Truly brilliant. This cat has been on my radar for years now.He is an absolute treasure of a musician and most excellent reference source for me for guitar arrangements and ideas.
What a fabulous song! Well played, gently sung and incredible talent! Thank you, Norm for having Johnathan take the old Stromberg around the block! Whew!!
Wow, the tone, the projection, the playing of Jonathan. Unplugged and this guitar is amazing. I'm going to start saving for one of these lol. Great video Norman. Glad you put these cats on as i now have another great player to follow. tom
Fantastic. I want to hear this through an AM tube radio in my grandmother’s pantry. This guy has captured a beautiful era of music in his approach. Inspiring.
Man where would I be if I hadn’t stumbled across Norm’s Rare Guitars on the net a few years back . I feel better after listening here every time. Thank You!
I'm a big fan of acoustic guitar players and listen to them often. This guy is a great find and thank you Norm for bringing him to our attention. His playing is phenomenal and I will be searching his solo efforts out, for sure.
I'm content to reside here for a while, this is as good today as it was yesterday and sometimes you simply need time to take it all in. Thank you Norman for making this happen and thank you Jonathan for demonstrating this incredible instrument so superbly, both Guitar and Player are an absolute treat, as is the choice of material along with it's performance and don't be so humble, I certainly include your Vocal Jonathan.. Bravo.
Holy smokes! That was some serious playing… Obviously, a huge amount of study and old-fashioned practice was required to reach that level of skill! And the Stromberg was as beautiful to hear as it was to look at! Great video, Norm, thanks for sharing!
Just listening to the guitarist play and sing , immediately gave me an old French heyday feel in my imagination . Quite superb and gratifying ...thankyou kindly ! Ooh la la ...
Although obviously different for each guitar, this is how GOTD should be done. I’ve received an education and heard how the instrument should be played to sound its best. Thanks Jonathan and Norm!
Pure and simple, too the point! This man plays with passion, conviction you might say! Guitar lessons cannot give you passion, it comes from your sole! It’s amazing how he caresses the guitar an makes it sing! Pure and simple! Thanks Norman.
It's always a treat to watch Jonathan play. I agree he's the best in the world at what he's doing. Btw, very elegant slipover he wears, and it compliments him so well. What brand?
I’m a great rock and general music fan. Been through all the eras of rock gods. But this is real guitar playing. Absolutely awesome. Where do these jazz and swing players get these chords. Fantastic but didn’t recognise a single one. Fantastic. 🙋♂️👏👏👏🇬🇧
It is amazing that sound is coming out of a box. Somebody check for batteries. The high notes are so crisp. I’m an old high school band drummer from the 60s!
We try to feature all guitar styles. This guy is carrying the torch for thirties style swing guitar. Folks. This is as good as it gets

Well Norm, it does not need to get any better! I am not a fan of this genre but his artistry just sucked me right into the vortex.
LOVE THIS!! Good music is good music, what ever the genre. THANK YOU NORM.
Jonathan is simply the best, he makes it look so easy and of course.....it's not!
This guy was fantastic! And what a breath of fresh air fresh air from the Norm
Did Norm have a mint or something?
😉
He's been on many times before, check out old episodes.... fantastic !
I get it......The Norm...
Jonathan is truly the master of the Allan Reuss rhythm and chordal-solo style. I hope his playing and lessons attract more young guitarists to '30s and '40s swing.
To say that Jonathan is a master is a real understatement.
I don't think so, I think the term master is overused. This guy has mastered his chosen specific musical genre/area, the term makes sense.
Jonathan and Norm just make life better. So thankful to share a planet with them.
I've always thought that the music we hear all the time is over orchestrated...why do we need more than Jonathan Stout playing an amazing guitar? So beautiful!!
he makes the song complete, like a whole band! AND singing and playing fits perfectly together, like his voice too! 👍
Me too. He's a better singer than he gives himself credit for.
Incredible guitar and performance from Jonathan Stout.
What a wonderful change of pace.
Yip!
This gentleman's finger coordination is absolutely amazing.
Thank you Jonathan. 🙏❤️🕊️
A blast from the past, priceless. Thank you.

Great! The guitar arrangements and technical complexity from that era was something

Fabulous guitar and a master who understands it to play it. And he can sing jazz!

So dang smooth! Thanks for letting JS light up the showroom.
I’ve listened to Jonathan Porter, Jonathan Lager and Jonathan Ale but Jonathan Stout is without a doubt the Best!
I never heard of Jonathan, he's a master, make it look smooth and easy!
I've watched a lot of Jonathan's videos over the years. Feelgood music.
