*Since I've been asked several times why the Steam version of Quake doesn't look/sound like this:* You must first download and install the Ultimate Quake patch. @Chubzdoomer Hey thanks for giving out this information. I just downloaded the ultimate quake patch on the link that you provided and it does work, my Quake game from Steam does look a lot better, the graphics look excellent. But the downside to all this is I can't put in a different CD to play different music while I'm playing the game. Meaning I can't put in a different music CD like before/ back in the days when you were able to put in a different music CD of your favorite artist and play whatever music you want while playing Quake 1 on your computer. If you personally owned the Quake game from back in the days then you'll know what I'm talking about. Anyways this may sound a bit crazy but is it possible to uninstall the Ultimate Quake patch that you provided and then play the Quake game in it's old school original form so in that case then I can play whatever music I want like back in the days unless you know another way where I don't have to do all this where I can play the Quake game in the new remastered HD form and then play whatever music I want. Please respond and let me know. Thank you. Peace. ✌
@@Chubzdoomer Hey no problem and thanks for responding. By the way the good news is I pretty much figured it out myself. Like I figured out how you can play whatever CD music you want including mp3's while you are playing Quake 1 (the new remastered HD version). One other question I have for you is how did you get your Quake game's color (the one in this video) looking as good, dark, and grim looking (similar to the original quake) as it does in this video? Like which resolution, game brightness, custom brightness, brightness, and gamma did you set it to? Like in my situation I'm satisfied with my game looking very clear and HD looking but the small problem I have is the colors look a little too bright and colorful looking for Quake like I remember Quake is suppose to look very grim, dark, and gothic looking. Like I tried to make the colors darker and grimmer looking similar to the original Quake but it still looks a little too bright and colorful looking. If you don't mind please tell me what you set the colors and resolution to. And sorry for asking you so much questions. Peace.
Aw, I remember when my dad and sister used to play this and ide hide behind their shoulders and watch. Used to give me nightmares but I just couldn't look away. Good times
Difficulty levels according to Q1 manual ;) Easy: This is meant for little kids and grandmas. Medium: Most people should start Quake at Medium skill. Hard: Here at id, we play Hard skill, and we think you should too, once you're ready. Nightmare: This is so bad that the entry is hidden, so people won't wander in by accident. If you find it, don't say we didn't warn you.
I remember my father and boyfriend were obsessed with this game back around 1997 or 98. They would play sometimes for 10 hours straight. It was pretty state of the art back then. Quake, Doom, and Red Alert were always played in my house, until a few years later when Everquest came out.
@George Thomas an online video game. I’m not sure if it’s still around but my father had multiple subscriptions with different characters and he’d play online with my aunt and uncle twice a week. I never got into it so I can’t tell u much but it was a very big deal to my family 😂 My dad had 2 computer monitors in the living room each hooked up to two computers. He’d be different characters on the same account simultaneously lol. Weird.
does anyone know if there's a way to add the Projectile Shotguns from Arcane Dimensions mod into the regular Quake maps? for me they enhance so much the gameplay feel, so good lol
Much as I love the developments in games, I sometimes feel we’ve made them too complicated on the whole. While the immersive ness of open-world or deep story games is fab, it’s really hard to dip in for a 5-10 minute level like you could with something like Quake.
Yes, I think so, too. When I would play a game I must at first install Updates, after them thinking where I was the last time I played it and what I have to do and what Keys I need for some actions. Quake was a game "Start it, Shoot, don´t think, only kill and survive"
i totally agree. modern gaming just takes too much time. i like the immersion of modern gaming can just be game breaking. too many cutscenes in modern adventure type games which is an instant immersion breaker for me. death stranding for example almost 20% of the entire game is just cut scenes. hours and hours and hours of cut scenes. how can anyone actaully enjoy that? i want to play a game. if i wanted to watch a movie id just do that.

How to play this game today: 1. Buy it from Steam or GOG. 2. Download a source-port, I would highly recommend Quakespasm Spiked, FTEQW, or Darkplaces. 3. Move all the files in the Quake folder from Steam or GOG to a folder where the source-port is located. 4. Download a pk3 file that has the music. 5. in earlier FPS games such as Doom, the characters are pixelated and their animations are in 2D. Quake is probably the first FPS game where you see a full 3D content.
As much as I love some of the older cod games and modern games in general, nothing will fascinate me more than the 90’s run and gun style. Doom and Quake hold my highest respect.
I'm 16 never played Quake but for some reason I really love the art style of this game and the 1993 Doom, I'm an aspiring game designer and would love to make a game with the original Quake & Doom feel
Alfred L. Sadly, it was badly advertised and the actual game didn't look like a tribute to DOOM as it was advertised, it ended up being a rogue like with randomly generated levels (that end up being poorly designed) with boring weapons to choose, almost no weapon upgrades, and it is too punishing with health and armor pickups. At least it's gore and gunplay are solid, but it ends up being a decent game at best, I would give it a 5 and a half out of 10. While the classic DOOM gets either a 9 or a 10.
please do make a game like this. for like 3ds, 2ds, PlayStation, Xbox, yk, the goods. Nintendo switch maybe? Either way, I want to experience this game again.
Thanks for the vid... so many great memories. Nice to see it played with skill too complete with good circle strafing. Some of the most fun times I ever had multiplayer gaming was in Q1 around 1996-1998 with various mods like headhunters, Silly-But-Fun, runes.. and all that. I remember getting a Diamond Monster 3D card and patching the game to use features of it like transparent water.... good times.
The bleak, desolate setting. The Shamblers, the Grunts, the Vore, the Death Knights…and more. The Trent Reznor soundtrack. I loved it. I just never really knew why I was there in the first place. Excellent game.
I remember I bought a sidewinder Joystick in 2000 and this game came free with it! I was looking for this game again to download! I just couldn't remember the name, nice video brings back memories. I had a surround sound hooked up and the sounds would mess with you creepy!
The DarkPlaces source port/engine, which I believe is a modified version of GLQuake. To be more specific, I'm using the Steam version of Quake with the fan-made Ultimate Quake Patch installed. The Ultimate Quake Patch utilizes the DarkPlaces engine developed by LordHavoc, the plasmagun fix by OoPpEe, the music patch originally hosted on widescreengamingforum dotcom and the NSIS install system developed by Nullsoft.
Not really... More like Quake is what Doom wished it could have been. Single player Q1 and Doom1 were similar, but of course Quake had the advantage of 3 years of rapidly advancing graphics engines (and hardware - mainly CPU/mem speeds). What really put Quake on the gamers map forever was the LAN multiplayer. Unreal Tournament came out shortly thereafter, building on Quake's multiplayer success, and seemingly orders of magnitude better graphics and frame rate.... Make make no mistake though, Quake was more like the "much *smarter* younger brother" to Doom.
@@vaprex What you've just described is that quake basically is the IT guy of the family and Doom is the absolute Chad of a man who was probably killing a guy john wick style as quake was losing his virginity.

Im having nostalgia watching this .... i first ever played game ....really love this game and blood game too but dont know where to find them now .... THANK YOU SOO MUCH BRO FOR MAKING THIS TUTORIAL
the graphics still hold up to this day. What a fucking achievement. This game was running on computers that had clockspeed of around 100mhz on a single core.
I remember being about 5 years old and sitting on my dads knee whilst he played this, never once scared me either! Always liked it when he got one of the dogs 😂
I played this in 1996 on a Cyrix 686 (now defunct CPU manufacturer), with 32 MB of RAM (8 of which were shared video memory) on a resolution of 512x384 pixels. It ran at around 15 FPS and still, to this day, it was one of the most intense gaming experiences I remember. The only modern game that achieved that level of exhilaration is DOOM (2016). My wife would look at me grinning at the screen and she said I looked like a demented child.
@TheDoomGuy333 The only input you can receive from the player is in the form of in-game actions (Fire, Open, Use, etc.) so you couldn't specify the 9 key in particular, but one of the easiest ways to accomplish what you're wanting is to create a custom item in DECORATE that acts as either a health or mana potion. You can even take a look at Heretic's Quartz Flask ("ArtiHealth" on the ZDoom Wiki) which is an inventory item that restores health to learn how to create your own.
@@grlt23 Gaming holds on strong today, and upgrading your computer for a game is still a common trend. I upgraded mine for Tekken 7. My friends on the PS4 kept telling me there's no input lag on PC, they eventually sold me on it and now 7-8yrs later I'm PC Master Race all the way.
We had a 486 DXII 50, the furthest that the motherboard could go was having a Pentium 90 chip. Even at that, had to run games in DOS as opposed to Windows (also applied to Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Duke Nukem)
@Zirbling The Steam versions of both Quake and Quake II have the soundtracks if you download the "Ultimate Patches" found on the Steam Quake forums. Those patches specifically fix the music and other things. Most of the time those threads are bumped so that you don't even have to look very far to find them. I just figured I'd post that information in case it helps. The Steam versions are the ones I'm playing in all of my Quake videos.
My dad played Quake along with Half Life a long long time ago. I played the game a few times at the age of 2 or 3, but I am more of a fan of my favorite first person shooter game.
Oh really? Well, look up "Sean's Better Quality sounds for Quake" on ModDB. You won't regret it. (I ain't a bot, I am just advertising where I see a good opportunity to do so.)
The good old days when this was considered good graphics. I miss the old GBC/GBA/SP, PS1,N64, and even PS2/XBOX days. So many good memories! Kids enjoy your childhood, every second of it.
The music and the soundeffects freak me the fuck out. Doom just has music. Rock n roll. Not necesarilly metal. And you can hear the demons. But quake has monster effects IN THE MUSIC. Plus the music is much creepier, and the weird stone and wood graphics just a very odd and surreal and scary experience Its also a lot harder I think maybe cuz they dropped the 2.5d for true 3d
This game scared the crap out of me as a kid, as I was new to first-person shooters at the time. Thankfully, growing up changed that, and I wouldn't mind playing this. :D
First time playing Quake was this year and I love it. I prefer it over Doom but only by a tiny fraction. I hope levels design goes back to putting puzzles and interesting fights first than narrative. I do not care if it is a very abstract.
Goldsrc build on top of this, Source build on top of Goldsrc, Source 2 build on top of Source. Half-Life Alyx still has the light flickering pattern from Quake. Can't help but gasp every time I think about it
Boy, this brings back memories. I know this whole part of the game like a personal memory, I get the whole sense of my mindset and my mental age and likings at the time (including boyfriends)
Finalmente depois de anos achei o jogo que meu tio era viciado na decada de 90. Perdi as contas das vezes que vi ele jogando isso no PC windows. Destravou uma memoria da minha infancia agora!!!!

Here because Rogan and Musk we're reminiscing about it.
Same
@@theadventuresofthomasswank6271 Same but he was talking to Bill Burr lol I'm gnna see now what him and Elon have to say about gaming.
Used to play this with my dad in like 2002. What a time to be alive.
I was 8 when i played this, in 1998, it was fucking terrifying !! Awesome!
This was my first computer game in 96. I was 9 lmao I played this game for hours and hours.
memories occupied....what a game...it was.....was searching this for a week
Q1 is the most atmospheric shooter for me, glad they used that as an inspiration in Quake Champions as well
@TheDoomGuy333 The only input you can receive from the player is in the form of in-game actions (Fire, Open, Use, etc.) so you couldn't specify the 9 key in particular, but one of the easiest ways to accomplish what you're wanting is to create a custom item in DECORATE that acts as either a health or mana potion. You can even take a look at Heretic's Quartz Flask ("ArtiHealth" on the ZDoom Wiki) which is an inventory item that restores health to learn how to create your own.
You probably had to play this 14 years ago to fully appreciate it!
Now it is 24 years ago... I feel so old. Quake 1 was first game which made me upgrade my first PC...
It’s still just as good. Same with Heretic, DOOM, and a lot of the other games made by ID.
This game is kinda scary, and im thinking of doing an LP of this...hoo man thats gonna be a challenge
pussy lol
I remember the ammo boxes for the nail gun had the NIN logo on... nice touch, great game
I remember playing this on my dads $5000 Pentium 75 in 1996 for hours and beat it like 30 times, I was 7. Those were the simple days..
We had a 486 DXII 50, the furthest that the motherboard could go was having a Pentium 90 chip. Even at that, had to run games in DOS as opposed to Windows (also applied to Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Duke Nukem)
I've been playing through this again and it's great fun! Nice job on the gameplay!
I like how you actually have the CD music playing with this.
I swear a good 85% of the people who played quake didn't play it with the music.
The Steam versions are the ones I'm playing in all of my Quake videos.
could be the nostalgia talking but this game had atmosphere way beyond anything that has come out in the last 10 years
My dad played Quake along with Half Life a long long time ago. I played the game a few times at the age of 2 or 3, but I am more of a fan of my favorite first person shooter game.
I loved this game. Played with my pops all the time growing up
Always admired the sound effects to this 👌💪
Oh really? Well, look up "Sean's Better Quality sounds for Quake" on ModDB. You won't regret it. (I ain't a bot, I am just advertising where I see a good opportunity to do so.)
i can almost hear my old shitty speakers playing the music. Also made me miss my 800x600 crt monitor.
The good old days when this was considered good graphics. I miss the old GBC/GBA/SP, PS1,N64, and even PS2/XBOX days.
So many good memories! Kids enjoy your childhood, every second of it.
Dear God, my childwood T_T I use to love more Quake than Doom (I use to play both, but Quake was my boy)
Quake released later than Doom=better graphics&sounds. That's why.
popis3493 Doom is faster paced
while Quake was gothic style and inspiring!
so i would say that both games get the recognition they deserve,
Oh memories. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails wrote the soundtrack back then. NIN-Logo on boxes.
this is a total throw back
i played this during night shifts with coworkers back in 98 so much fun
That noise your character makes when you jump sounds hilarious! XD
That super modded fluid animations are... AMAZING, bu i love the old frame animations more.
yeap
If you like the old animations, open up the console in-game and type "r_lerpmodels 0".
The music and the soundeffects freak me the fuck out. Doom just has music. Rock n roll. Not necesarilly metal. And you can hear the demons. But quake has monster effects IN THE MUSIC. Plus the music is much creepier, and the weird stone and wood graphics just a very odd and surreal and scary experience
Its also a lot harder I think maybe cuz they dropped the 2.5d for true 3d
I remember playing this before I was a teenager...need to replay for all time sake
i could watch this all day
I used to play this game for hours at a time. I still remember those maps and bad guys.
This game scared the crap out of me as a kid, as I was new to first-person shooters at the time. Thankfully, growing up changed that, and I wouldn't mind playing this. :D
OH MY GOD. I JUST REALIZED THAT QUAKES ROCKET LAUNCHER IS "THE ORIGINAL" IN TF2.
fun fact: tf2 used to be a quake mod ;)
btw valve hired the people who did the team fortreas quake mod so without quake tf2 would never exist;)
quake looks so good, even today
I loved to play this online back in 1998
Only 2 year late
Esto era otro nivel, tengo 32 años y jugue esto muchas horas con mucho miedo en mis espaldas, eran otros tiempos
and with the music, too!
Damn, this game looks so good even today. Great skill btw.
Agreed. Doom's monster designs were the best of all id Software titles in my opinion.
This remember me the old and classic Doom
I'm pretty sure there's a map on a Doom 2 mod made after this. Exactly the same layout. Gotta check which one is it.
I’m 10 (2018) and I still love this game!
I remember when you could buy the Quake demo disc at 7-11. It also contained the full version of the game, so if you downloaded a simple hack, you could unlock the whole thing
.
Loved the secrets. King of the FPS genre.
I see you uploaded the original Quake. Awesome. How would I be able to play this today? Do I have to use Steam, or is there another way?
