@ 32:41 Seriously, the 50-50 is controlled by someone in the studio. Like almost every time there are two very close answers, it almost always narrows it down to both of them.

The 50-50 was determined by the question writers when the question was written. It wasn't based on anything the contestant said, but the writers did purposely leave the two most likely answers.
On Meredith's version and Super Millionaire, the 50-50 was made random.
