  • The Citarum river in Indonesia is the world’s most polluted river. A reporter teamed up with international scientists to investigate the causes and consequences of this pollution.
One of the main polluters is the fashion industry: 500 textile factories throw away their wastewater directly into the Citarum river.
Thanks to the help of concerned citizens, the Green Warriors team analyzed water samples, rice and children’s hair and found out many toxic chemicals are endangering the lives of the 14 million Indonesians using the Citarum water.
These findings caused the Indonesian government to change its wastewater regulations. The president also recently announced a new plan to clean up the Citarum.
The fashion brands questioned in this documentary promised to better control their Indonesian suppliers.
This documentary was first released in 2018.

Even new balance shoes make many products in Indonesia... we need to put on the pressure fir these companies to clean up their act. There is no reason for this

The ancient Indian textiles industry was 100 percent environment friendly without causing any harm either before, during और after the production of clothes.

That is too much expectation for a incompetent and highly corrupt government. Sad and tragic 😔

Evidence that the world does not care much about Indonesia's problems. If it's a problem that's happening in Japan, it'll probably get over 1 million views lol

Wearing the clothes made from this type of textiles industry is not a fashion statement but it is a KILLER statement. In the guise of fashion statement.

High performance waste treatment system must be installed FREELY in all 500 textiles industries ,those countries that are major buyers of Indonesian textiles thus expressing genuine welfare and concern for human lives

Well, I read the sewage systems need rebuilt. That would go a long way. Every developing nation must build these systems properly. Just do it. Stop acting like it's a big mystery.

Therefore consumerism must be replaced by ESSENTIALISM while the attitude of recklessness must change into an attitude of Sustainable natural Ness.

This is not the only problem of Indonesia but for all countries that are buying, selling and using these clothes from Indonesia.
All are equally accountable not to blame upon Indonesia alone.
This is a old world reckless consumerism problem which must change into the new world Sustainable ESSENTIALISM solution.

Biodegradable polyester should replace polyester completely so that end to end zero pollution is achieved.

All the 500 textiles industries must use natural dyes which are water rich nutrients instead of using human life harmful dyes and bleaching chemicals.
Otherwise government must shut down companies immediately.
Cent percent Sustainable environment norms MUST COMPULSORILY be enforced upon all textiles companies throughout the world and in addition nature friendly dresses as fashion statement must be publicized to such an extent that people prefer only natural khadi like clothes ONLY.

Americans are always talking shit about China on how they pay slave wages with no human rights etc, but show me where in China looks like this. But how many times have you seen Western mainstream media reporting on locations like this?

I've been all over China, some places, in West China gorgeous. Other places I could hardly breathe the air was so polluted. I was literally gagging just walking around.

@@jennifergoodman7528 That's not the point, it's why is western media handling this nation with kid gloves when it's no better than China?

India alone is the best coordinator for third world countries problems such as these to be solved as it has undergone these phases and has come on its own now .
Indias experts and experience is unmatched and excellent delivery model which perfectly suits these countries like Indonesia.
