  • In our regular six monthly GDPR and Data Protection update, we looked at recent developments in data protection and ePrivacy law, including:
    • Recent case law, including the latest developments on international transfers; and
    • A summary of relevant enforcement action from the UK and elsewhere in the EU
    Speaker biographies:
    Martin Sloan:
    Martin is an experienced lawyer specialising in IP, Tech and Data. He combines technical knowledge with an interest in understanding his client's business to provide pragmatic advice and practical solutions.
    Martin's expertise includes technology procurement, IT outsourcing, business process outsourcing, commercial contracts, intellectual property, data protection, ePrivacy and cyber risk. Martin regularly helps clients in relation to the legal and commercial risks relating to the development and use of new technology, such as cloud-based services, and projects involving AI, blockchain and big data.
    Martin works with clients across a range of sectors including financial services, media, food and drink, charities and the third sector, and the public sector. Martin also advises technology businesses and innovative tech start-ups, including fintech and adtech.
    Grant Campbell:
    Grant is a highly experienced commercial lawyer of over 30 years' standing and is head of the commercial practice at Brodies. He is recognised as a specialist in outsourcing, technology, IP and information law and combines his wealth of experience with strong communication skills and a proactive and pragmatic approach.
    Both an advisory and transactional lawyer, Grant acts for clients in drafting and negotiating contracts for major outsourcing and technology deals (representing both customers and suppliers) and also advises on data protection projects, involving data sharing, data structuring, international transfers and cyber issues.
    Grant works with major clients in a variety of sectors including manufacturing and engineering, aviation and space, energy, oil and gas and transport servicing their activities in the UK and abroad. Grant has a particularly deep knowledge of the facilities management sector where he acts for a number of clients and acts as principal advisor to his clients in major deals both here in the UK and in the US.
    Rachel Lawson:
    Rachel joined the Commercial Services Division at Brodies as a solicitor in March 2020.
    Since qualifying, Rachel has built up experience in advising clients in the private, public and third sectors on commercial contracts, information laws and intellectual property law. Rachel particularly enjoys giving advice on data protection matters including auditing, reporting, complex data sharing arrangements and overarching day-to-day compliance.
