As someone who has only ever come across lacrosse on US tv and film I found this really informative and loved the historical background and context. Excellent video.
I played Lax in College and briefly dated (probably too formal for it, hung out, maybe) with a girl who played Women's Lax. I went to a game to root for her once. I caught up with her afterwards and was like "I think you did well, but I have no idea what was happening." I hadn't previously watched Women's lacrosse and didn't realize it's almost a different sport entirely. Fun though. There should be a women's PLL .
Professionals who know the sport’s history, the film’s societal and historical context, the filmmaking process, and the technical side is a great selection.
Loved Paul’s comment about playing goalie. When I switched to goalie, I found my place on the field but also got exponentially better at every other position as well.

It's crazy seeing a video like this pop up in my YT recommendations. Like for years now subconsciously whenever I saw lacrosse in TV or film I broke down if it's accurate or not and if they're playing good lacrosse. It's interesting to see how lacrosse scenes play out and to see if they're accurate because of just how niche the sport is. Like, if there's a basketball/football/baseball/hockey scene you can usually assume it's gonna be accurate given how widely known those sports are. Lacrosse is the opposite.
Paul is a pro athlete and still calls it a “karaoke” drill. Unless Paul is going to serenade us with his best rendition of “Nothing but a good time” by Poison, let’s call it by the right name. It’s “Carioca”.

I'm late but I never knew what lacrosse was till my senior year. I thought "that looks fun" and somehow made the team. Kyle Harrison was my idol when he was at Johns Hopkins I used the watch the Paul rabil commercials all the time lol
Idk about assuming the announcer is racist for not knowing the player little bit woke I respect you Paul because I think you have good intentions but you can’t go around assuming things are because of racism. I didn’t watch the movie so let me know if I’m wrong.
Jose Jonez the characters role was literally meant to be racist. Like he’s supposed to be an ignorant elitist that knows little about the true backgrounds of the sport.
Christopher Hughes that makes no sense they are identical twins that’s why he got them mixed up he only got the IDENTICAL twins mixed up nobody else regardless of race he would have mixed them up
I’d argue in my school the girl’s and boy’s lacrosse teams are pretty close. We each get half the field, but at the end of practice we would have everyone, boys and girls around the 8 fan, and play 3v3s within the 8 and we have boys and girls just lined up all over the 8 going in and out watching
He is right about the hockey goalie like stance. We have our catcher glove typically our right hand (depending on your strong hand) and our stick and block glove (it’s called that because it is like a giant pad on top of a glove) and we would be in pretty much the same leg position to be ready to do a butterfly to stop incoming pucks on the ice (a butterfly is where we flex our legs into a certain position to use our giant leg pads that go over our knees, chins, and a little bit of the thigh above the knee). I know all this goalie stuff because I am in a hockey (and becoming a lacrosse family because I am right now a defender in Venetia, PA) and I used to be a goalie (at least I tried but didn’t really like it much because I don’t have flexible legs) so yeah.
Crunchy Poptart they dont have much contact and im pretty sure they cant necessarily shoot if another player is in their shot path (thats not verbatim the rule is more complex than that) but there are a lot of rules that prevent most types of contact so its not really necessary for them to use all the same pads.
There’s a girl on my lacrosse team that’s really good at roll dodges. She usually plays midi and when she gets possession of the ball we all know she’s gonna finesse the other teams defense
