It's not just about charging speed. Regen in cold weather should be much better too (which is CATL LFP current weakness). I have a Model Y with Byd Blade LFP battery, it's charging insanely fast (10-80% in 18min) and has great regen even at 100%, even in cold weather condition. I bet CATL 6M LFP will be the same.
1:37 Apparently there is a LMFP Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate batteries. It just replacing some of the iron used for the cathode material with manganese.
CATL has over 20,000 people in research and development. Guess they won't stop working hard on impriving batteries more and more...for who knows how long.

The numbers don't add up on the chart at 2:15. 62.5 kWh for the 2025 CATL 6 battery. At around 4 miles per kWh, that's a range of around 250 miles EPA. To get 400 miles range, you need around a 100 kWh battery. Forget the weight, range mostly depends on kWh in the battery (although smaller, lighter cars get a little better mileage).
Interesting news. Just some feedback regarding CATL, they call themselves C.A.T.L so when you mention and pronounce their name as KTill it always throws me as its not their name.
Any advances in range for Tesla will just mesn they reduce the cells in the vehicles. It reduces weight and cost for them to make the cars. Tesla hasnt been concerned about more range than the 400+ they get on the MS. More would be nice but for most people 400 is fine.
i suspect Tesla is incrementally increasing range as their battery tech improves. Not a big jump every year. It just goes with how they make cars. Lots of minor improvements every week.
Not really. CATL most likely doesnt want to keep an old production line that makes slightly worst version of the new battery, so they will progressively shift deliveries of the 6L battery to 6M instead.
Sam! Love your channel… Watch all your videos… And obviously this is a minor point but it drives me up the wall when I see an apostrophe misused… No need for the apostrophe when making the word Tesla a plural. Keep up the good work!
My U.S.-made Model Y with an NMC battery, with ~320 miles of range will see >3000 cycles before it degrades to 80%, so 3000 x 320= 960,000 miles. I think we'll be o.k. with NMC until full silicon anode, solid-state batteries become commercial. I still think LFP is great for battery storage but, not good for vehicles.
Seriously Sam...Love my '23 LR Model Y....will I replace my Mazda CX5 with a Juniper...well it depends on the range and charging speed...i just drove 2250 kms over 3 days in the Mazda...and the range in my current Y is not there yet...will wait and see
majority of tesla owners are going around without knowing anything about what battery their car has. tesla has been buying every and anything they can get their hands on. we should be able to choose what battery type is in there and not just the bling of colors and seating etc what happened to those M3P batteries promised last year?
I have just ordered a Model 3 RWD LFP from Shanghai with delivery in December and from the VIN number i can see it is a 2025. is it possible i will get this new battery?
oh man...simple math and physics. The voltages in the battery pack are kept almost the same, so Charging speeds (kwh/h) will not change dramatically, because there is a limitation in current for the chargers. However, what will change, is the time spent at the supercharger, because they can keep the battery cooler for a longer period of time (they are adding additional "cooling" to the battery pack, because the volume and the weight doesn't change, but the gravimetric energy density is increasing). So they will be able to maintain the charging speeds for a much longer time at the maximum of 170-180 kwh. To be realistic, this battery will be able to charge relatively the same as the BYD blade battery used in the standard model y in Europe. So around 20 minutes from 10-80%

We are in for 100 more years of battery development and it’s going to be amazing.
