I love the different colors used as well, mostly in the ectoplasm but also in general. Makes it more interesting and lively and the lighting helps a ton with that as well!
I was told below this video that he is actually still actively working on maps and he even finished a couple more now. Just didn't publish them to the usual website yet but I will do some digging because the are always super fun to play 👀
Player Review: The day Dimitry Lemon's maps run out, the world will surely change. xD But: the contrast to his (later) New Year Quest, which I played yesterday, could hardly be bigger. Instead of a cozy, chill map, this was a harsh, intimidating challenge map-a completely different level of gameplay difficulty. Unlike the other one, which I had almost completely forgotten after a year, I remembered specific parts of this map because they were "broken" or had poor polishing, which wasn’t too promising. xD Interestingly, my polishing issues were even in different spots than yours. It’s also funny that this dungeon map was more well-lit in many parts than the dimmed castle in the later map. But let’s go step by step: Overall, the map design is largely inspired by elements from the original game, enhanced by custom elements like colored ectoplasm or textures from HP1 and HP3. This map is generally far more exciting than the original Skurge challenge and overall quite fun. It’s not really a beginner’s map, but if you’re easy with the parkour and enemy fights from the original game, these things are also doable here. I tend to be a cautious player, and I focused even more this time, which kept the number of my fails within a manageable range given the segment’s difficulty. You do have to accept that the creator actively tries to trick you with the secrets. They’re technically fair and findable, but the map aims to make you mess up, like going overhasty too far ahead without being able to go back, or you can easily choosing the wrong platform/path. That’s how I missed my only star-I realized too late that I could activate the platform in the area around (13:36) to get to the star. There are also multiple death traps that aren’t immediately visible, so the difficulty is rather on the higher side. Creative variety is moderate-you often have similar things to do, but in nicely done variations, so it doesn’t get too boring. Surprises are rare here, which is also due to the massive scale of the segments. They’re impressive at first glance, but it’s best not to look up at the huge, bare ceilings too much-and given the size of the rooms, there’s rarely much variety in the containing tasks. It reminds me a lot of his Rictusempra sewer map, though that one felt a bit more unique. Ironically, the one spell that was used particularly creatively in this map wasn’t Skurge, but Lumos. I especially liked the part with the candles that you have to light or the block that appears with Lumos. And adding a stealth mechanic at the end of the first map was bit random, but it was a special element among all the platforming and parkour sections with either tight corridors or vast open spaces. It doesn’t fully elevate the map’s recognition value, though, as you’ll recognize most of the elements from other (dungeon) maps. In my opinion, the twist with the second map wasn’t necessary. I mean I like the second, smaller map, but it felt more like a prologue to me, as that segment (even the hellish Death Machine) is easier and more chill than most of the first map. I would have swapped the order since, as it is, it feels like an artificial extension. And I can’t talk about this map without mentioning the biggest annoyance of the whole playthrough: the mechanism with the fire crab, which you thought was so cool (37:37), was completely broken for me. The wall opening where the crab was stuck closed always automatically again one second after opening, with the crab still behind it, making the mechanism stuck and causing a constant sound loop. Reloading didn’t help, so I couldn’t progress without cheating. Also, the descending star you get from the two snails (45:46) stopped after the second one, leaving it stuck halfway and unreachable. That’s always disappointing. Still, I enjoyed playing it, and even though it’s not one of my favorite maps of his like it is for you, I can still recommend it overall. I’d rate it slightly lower than his other challenge maps from this period, giving it a 7.5/10, so it’s in the lower second tier. I’d play it again with the polishing fixed, but given its size, other maps would take priority.
I was hyped when I found a switch for the beam you missed back then (like for his alohomora map where the solution for the missing entrance in your playthrough where also little switches lately) and considered it broken instead, but I saw in the comments that you're already enlightent meanwhile, but I won't lie, it's understandable that you didn't manage that, I also found it like the third time walking through the corridor, I'm not a fan of activly hidden switches either.
Ohh yeah I can see that, especially the Lumos challenge similarities. Crazy how many different styles and inspirations this map combined into one thing, really really cool!
Dmitry plans to make a newer version of this one. He already finished the new Flipendo challenge (third version, generally), but didn't published at the HP-Games it yet, only gave link to his subscribers P.S: The switch you've got in the video end starts platform that leads to another star (technically, a fifth star of the level)
Ohh that's cool actually, super happy to hear that he is still actively making maps. I assume I can find those on his TH-cam Channel then? I hope he will upload them to the website soon as well, always really high quality maps. And thanks for pointing out the secret star I missed, that makes a lot of sense but I doubt I would have found that one 😄
You can find a link under his video titled "Карта для Тайной комнаты Испытание Флипендо (без тайников)". The map uses metallicafan212 engine. I'm not sure when the map will be published on our site (Dmitry wants to publish three maps at once). For that star, it doesn't count like a secret if I remember right, the mechanism is similar to the one you've found in the room with rotating platform
Awesome, thank you so much for the info! I will probably play that one on stream soon then, really curious to see how his mapping has evolved now with the new editor and some years passed in between! Ohh yeah I remember that mechanism, I will go back to the map right now to check that star out. Interesting how it's not a secret so I didn't even realize I missed it 😄
It's cool and pretty looking map, I think you'll like it. Though some secrets are tricky and you need to think different way. I like in this new map that you can see actual secrets placements and make some theories how to get there. Yeah, the fact some hidden stars aren't secrets is unusual trait of this map. People often don't look around enough to notice such details
Sounds like he stepped up his secret game then in those maps, that sounds very intriguing actually... I am almost certain that I will love his new stuff considering that I already enjoy almost all of the older once he made. Will put that on the list of maps to pla nd hopefully get around to do that on stream in a week or two, very excited now!
In the room, where the bridge falls after snails, there was a flippendo block in previous room which you suppose to cast on, to move it, then jump on it, not on the second one)😅😅 you should be more attentionaly, especially in Dmitry Lemon maps))😊😊
Omg, thank you so much for solving that mystery! I went into the map again just now and found the Flipendo switch, in my defense the spot it's in is suuuuper dark so it's really difficult to see anything there but fair enough, my bad for not being attentive enough like you said 😄 I quite liked my workaround as well though, was fun to still make it work with speedrun tricks.
Try 'Secret Library' custom map from him) Visually very cool,But beware of unfair secrets and mazes, which this map have ( a few =)) P.S My favourite map from him)
Thank you for the recommendation, I actually got it recommended before from someone else as well so I am planning to play it on my Twitch channel this Thursday! Will be a bit longer until it will be on TH-cam after that but it will be uploaded for sure!
Played the map on stream yesterday now and I also missed 2 secrets but I have to admit that one was a rather obvious one and it was fully my fault for not seeing it and the other one I got to an unintended way, can't wait to post that video, will be fun!
Yeaaah I remember cutting quite a lot haha But there were also some segments that just didn't work very well in my defense so it wasn't just all incompetence 😅
There are some super well hidden ones and as you said the map is also pretty big so no shame in not finding them all first try. I was actually surprised how close I got to finding most of them in my blind playthrough without ghost mode, didn't actually expect that 😄
I have seen people create their own custom spells for maps (and you would have to make them up from scratch I'm pretty sure, I doubt porting them over from HP1 directly works). So it's absolutely possible to make them work but it's pretty difficult and A LOT of work to my knowledge...
It only needs some dedication and a looooot of time and effort and basically anything is possible in this game 😄 I really love that fact about HP2 and I respect the active modding community of it a ton for it!
A lot of highlights in this map, it really didn't make it easy on me and/or I really didn't perform very well that day 😂 Thank you for timestamping all the good moments and leaving them here, I really appreciate that!
So good light und beutifull designs on this!
I love the different colors used as well, mostly in the ectoplasm but also in general. Makes it more interesting and lively and the lighting helps a ton with that as well!
I hope Dimitry makes more maps, these ones are a joy to play

14:45 that panic XDDD
I hated that trap, it did make me panic a bit because I really wanted to somehow safe Harry from down there xd

2:57 it also looks like part of the dungeon level in HP1, with the retracting platforms, and the HP1 Lumos challenge
