- In this tutorial I demonstrate how to do the Star triaxial. This tutorial was possible due to the work of Raquel Perez Zbornik.
This is quite an exotic technique well suited for wraps on handles, lighters, bottles and such. Bring patience with ya when doing this one!

i dont usually post on videos but i think he does a great job of explaining and in very slow and deliberate during the explanation so that you can keep up without having to stop the video too many times.
I used this to decorate the end of a woven paracord belt. I wish I could show you, it looks so awsome! Thanks for the teaching!
I have looked all over the internet, but I can't find instructions on finishing the end. My advice would be to make the leftover pieces longer (so that you have roughly three inches hanging off the object you are wrapping). Then, plait them together and singe the ends together so that they do not unravel.
For the other end, simply singe the ends of the cords together (or repeat step one if you are completely covering the object).

Great job on the video, thank you for putting my pictorial in video form!! Tip: Once you've wrapped your initial 3 cords, rotate the mandrel as to loosen the cords(1 to 1 1/2 full turns of the mandrel), then fasten down. It will seem sloppy but will tighten up as you weave sets. It eliminates needing to drop to a smaller mandrel. Thanks again Marko-Paracord Guild!!!!

Raquel Perez Zbornik: This will help. Tightness was concerning me. I was thinking if you could start the third sequence from the right side you could weave for an inch or so, tighten and continue as I do with the Qbert weave.

Great looking pattern. I am getting along quite well but i want to make sure i can get this off the mandrill on to the handle of my project. Im doing the braid on a 1 inch pvc and it need to end up on a 3/4 handle. Anytips on how to tighten it all back up after the move?

Well ive searched and searched for this size needle on amazon and they either dont sell it anymore or they call it something else. Not fid, marlin spike, leather lok, nada

Great braid but i can't seem to understand how to finish? The ends of the tubular braid have to be finished some way maybe closed at one or both ends after covering the object you intended it to cover. Maybe one closed end keeping a round flat bottom like the bottom of a water bottle that will when covered with the braided sleeve still stand upright without falling and the other end finished open but with a sinch cord allowing removel from the object its covering to be placed on a different one. A scinch cord allowing tightening of open top with a sliding knot and braided clip or clasp to attach and carry hands free?
Your tutorials are verry appreciated and clear to understand with nice simple directions verbally and physically so tgank you for shareing sutch rare talent and skill.
I would love to leearn how to finish this tubular braid at its ends and im sure ot bff er beginner's may have the same question. Maybe you could create a tutorial on this verry question regarding the finishing of ends of cylinder braids.

what about the endings? who do you tie them?
This is something I want to try. There's a walking stick that I have and been looking for something different. Question that I do have,.....with the cords that you have used in the demonstration,....what's the overall length of cords used vs. the length of the finished product??

Well, the three longer cords just have to wrap around for the length that you need. The cords that are woven into are just a little bit longer than the length of the product. There is basically very little cord "loss" with this weave.

Very intricate. How do you secure the ends around a permanent piece, (e.g. a flashlight)? Is it best to make it on the permanent piece, or round a mandrel and then slide it? (In which case, what should the size of the mandrel be in relation to the destination?
Hey!
There are a bunch of knots you can use to secure the cords (the strangle knot is pretty decent). A very solid and secure way is also to wrap the start and end using the inner strands of paracord or sinew, then cover the wrapped section using a turk's head knot.
I'd absolutely tie this one on the piece directly. Just make sure you do it VERY loosely at the start.

What if I wanted a 5 point star instead of a 6 for an American flag wrap would I do 2 black and one white or how would I organize them
for the shorter pieces,.....how many dark and how many light color are there in total.....???? (not counting the wrap around from the start). I'm trying to figure out what the count is. To me it looks like (from right to left) a total of 2 dark and 2 light and the same amount from the left to right weave. Personally this is something I want to try out.

There are three dimensions you need to weave. The first is done using the three longer cords (1 darker one and 2 lighter ones). The second and third are again done using a ratio of 2 lighter cords per 1 darker one. You weave each dimension by adding three smaller cords each time until a dimension is all filled up.

Paracord guild Thanks. What I was aiming for was how many shorter cords all together......or is it one of those things where it depends on the size of the mandrill?
Also,.....I have a couple of walking sticks from Cold Steel.com that I'm looking to wrap. They're kinda on the bumpy side (for reference the Irish Blackthorn walking stick and the African walking stick). With those two items,...considering that I'd be working with an non-straight surface,....what would you suggest??? Any advice would be most welcomed.

Indeed, the number of shorter cords depends on the size of the object you are wrapping, but the number always keeps the same ratio of dark:white color cords.
As far as the walking sticks go, I think that the African walking stick is less problematic for a wrap. I'd go with a herringbone plait and interweave an additional, smaller diameter cord where the bumps are (or do fancy knots over them). Bumps are usually used in braiding as an opportunity to show fancy work.
The Irish Blackthorn is not evenly bumpy though, so I would use an open wrap, one that lets the bumps stick out of the wrap, not a fully covering wrap.

He has another video where he uses nails to secure it to a paddle then does s Turks head knot over that to hide it. Pretty cool!

So why is it when people don’t post on other people’s videos a lot they feel it’s necessary to let us know that? How about just saying what you have to say? We really don’t care if you post comments on other people’s videos a lot or not. And by the way, I had a dream last night that I seen Mike Tyson in some public restroom, in the flesh. He was real cool, humble, and nice. It was in the present day, but HE was still young with hair and in his pre-tattoo days. He was very approachable. I just said hello or hi to him and either shook his hand or gave him a fist-bump-type thing, can’t really remember. I do know it was as we were on our way out of the restroom so it was definitely post the hand-washing experience, nothing weird going on at all.

You can transfer it to a slightly smaller object or if you space apart the strands loosely so that you can then tighten up after you transfer it.

Would this work on a ships helm working around spokes?
Hey! It can work on any cylindrical object. You will need to do it directly onto the spokes.
If you do this, make sure to start your initial wrap loosely to make your work easier. It can be a superb project, but you should count on quite a bit of work.

The ends are finished by wrapping them tightly. An inner strand of paracord, microcord or sinew can be used.
You can for example use a whipping, a series of spiral hitches, the strangle knot for this purpose.

Thanks WillieNelson (love the name :-) I have the one you're talking about but these appear to be much shorter but are flat like the one I have. I ordered what I THOUGHT was the same one he used and that thing is about 2 inches long and MAYBE big enough for micro or nano cord. I guess I might as well learn how to do some lacing now that I have six new dwarf needles.
