My uncle worked as a Welder for many projects of L&T. They never made tradesman like him permanent. Now he is working abroad and earning in lakhs. Had he been in India , even now L&T would have treated him only as a laborer.
As per law, you have to pay twice for every hour beyond 8 hours. In other words, if we have 12 hours workday, then the salary is doubled. Those who are talking about 12 hours or more working hours, will they want to double employees cost to the company? These CEOs are talking like employers of daily wage laborers. What Indian companies lack is productivity which cannot be achieved by additional working hours. Indian employees are already overworked if one factors in 2 to 4 hours of commute in addition to almost 9 hours of work.
Being an Indian I have experienced that when an Indian person become a manager then they behave like a teacher who tries to control his employee as a child then things circulate over and over again when a employee become a manager. this mindset needs to shifted to healthy and mature one.
L&T built a bridge in Panaji, Goa, the bridge was shut down in one year and it started sinking and huge pot hole developed on the bridge trucks were turning turtle on the bridge. That is what is the reputation of L&T, substandard quality talking big things, ask the chairmen his working on Sunday, they built a substandard bridge which did not even last a year what is that useless person's use of working on a Sunday?

These things about private companies are coming out, but every day the public sector bank employees of this country are working more than 12 hours without any exception and even on holidays most often. All the branches of every public sector bank including the country's largest lender under the government do not have enough staff to handle the hundreds of customers who visit these branches. Lack of manpower at branches affects the customer service badly and people complain about it. The Human resources department of every one of these public sector banks are equally pathetic in handling their HR.
I started my career with LT 40 years ago and we used to work long hours and Saturdays as well but those days we were young and could spend time at office. LT had this problem of huge wage differences even then, not sure if it was so severe as LT was a smaller company then . But yes they had special previleges for Convenented officers including separate toilets earmarked for them. Never seen such discrimination in any organization i worked thereafter
The first company I worked for as a fresher had a toilet only for the Owner and his secretary. Everyone else had to go to the municipal toilet outside on the street.

These CEO's at their evening of their life, for their personal benfits are going against Indian labor laws, which permit maximum 48 working hours per week, this includes rest breaks and meals. Some countries like France the working hours is around 35 hours in a week. If we follow 70 or 90 hours, death and suicide rate will increase exponentially and we will loose manpower. Human body needs sufficient sleep atleast 7 hours a day to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. Also the employee needs time to spend with his family which is part of his responsibility. These people has to be taken to the court for spreading false message, human exploitation and for non-compliance with law
