Oh man, this took me back straight to high school. I literally had a composition notebook that I had filled to the brim with dozens and dozens of fantasy sword designs I thought were cool. I just started getting back into doodling with fountain pens again, so that will probably be a good place to start.

I got a video from you in my feed and something drew me to look through your channel... then I came to the realization you are the same person I used to watch as a child, you were the only artist I enjoyed watching. I recognized your art and demeanor though you look so different to me now... I'm so glad to have found your channel again. I'm an adult now but I've never given up on art, and I am certain you were a part of that.

This is great because it highlights an important and surprising thing I learned about drawing (and painting etc), which is how helpful it is to understand how things work, how they are made, and why - EVEN if a lot of this information may not directly factor into what you see as you draw it.
At first, and most importantly, you learn to really look and see what you are trying to draw, rather than drawing from the sort of time-saver icon edition stored in your brain. In this phase, you learn to see the shapes and volumes, and how light is effected by them etc.
Then, you begin to study the thing you are drawing, and understand why a thing is, how it is. What is it made of? What is the purpose? In figure drawing, for instance, it is vital to understand how the skeletal and muscular structure works for whatever your subject is (human, or animal). You may not see much of this in a drawing, but the structure beneath informs how the surface works.
Swords, weapons, armor at the same. It turns out, even though we can exaggerate things, for instance, in a fantasy or imaginative setting -- there are still basic rules or principals to how they work. Or, say you draw a a normal looking character wielding a medieval sledge-like war-hammer in one hand, we just know intuitively that this is silly, or must be magical, etc.
And so drawing, for me at least, feels like a great adventure in really seeing and studying the world around me.

I used to play a game with my bros while were in church where we draw a continuous battle scene, we take turns, you can draw one figure per turn, by the end of the session you have a intricate battle scene. good times.

Just to bore you Peter, a halberd is usually an axe head, spike, and a hook on the back. A poleaxe is usually shorter and has an axe head, spike, and a hammer. Sometimes a poleaxe doesn't even have an axe head, it might just be a hammer and hook.
Also halberd heads are usually one piece and poleaxes are several fitted together

@@lordhuebi bardiches were a lot shorter than a halberd and around the same length as a poleaxe. They usually just had the large chopping blade though, no spikes or hammers. The bottom of their blade also usually attached to the pole itself

Here I am waking up at midnight to get ready for my graveyard shift, and this is just the best thing to watch with my "morning" coffee. The variety of weaponry is awesome, and these have all reminded me of what made me want to draw in the first place. My first inspirations were Bob Ross and Heavy Metal Magazine. Thanks Peter for reminding me of my early days when all I had was an HB and lined paper, lol.

A halbard was retained in the British Army till the American Revolution....but was only carried by sergeants as a mark of their senior rank .....rather than as a needed battle implement. Also...the fuller,or "blood gutter" on a sword or bayonet permitted air to enter the " stuck body"....making the withdrawing of the blade easier. Still......very often the vacuum created by inserting a metal blade during combat required placing a foot on the vanquished enemy, and pulling back with some force to remove the sword or bayonette. Grim science. The rapier, ...where the sharp point was the business end ( it had no sharply edged blade) killed by stabbing....and was in vogue by "gentlemen" of the 18th century.....especially in France where fencing was brought to a high skill level. The heavy Sabre was a cavalry weapon...edged with a full basket type hilt....but sometimes used in combat.

A morningstar is a club, no chain.
The multi-blade sword would be too heavy as you guessed, also it would only penetrate 1/3rd as much as a single sword bc of the spread out pressure.
The two handle sword would decrease your reach and require you to present your entire front area, instead of profile, as a target.

A halbard is much longer than a poleaxe, like 1.5× taller than the user and is used in group combat. Those scenes with cavalry charging an army are running into halbard.
Poleaxe/arm is shorter than the user and more for one on one combat.
You followed the halbard up with the great flame blade from Breath of the Wild.
