I just discovered Opal. What a devastating beautiful short to experience. I wish that I could delete it from my mind, so I can watch it again the first time. It breaks my heart to hear the end, knowing that it's someone's real nightmare.
Ok but something I thought of when the fake family said "And in our eyes you'll stay." Is that while they are saying they will be giving her the attention she hopelessly desires, it could also be hinting towards how she'll never leave her true home. The billboard is pointed directly at her window, and the people on it are "keeping her in their eyes". The only way for her to no longer be in their eyes is if she left the home. This could mean literally, as in she will simply forever live in the house, or figuratively, as in she will one day leave but will hold on to the memories she has in the house and forever long for a normal childhood she never got.
My gf at the time says Opal (Claire) looks demonic. I think she's beautiful. She has gone through some shit and I don't blame her for creating an imaginary world where everything and everyone is perfect.
