No - one else showed how to pull that little notch to get the ribbon to release!
Your so welcome . Thanks for watching
I actually did it, and happy to report that my Wii is fixed! Unbelievable!
@JasonLee-fc2ot thats awesome bro
Glad it worked out
Just started spinning up. But now I’m getting a rattling sound
What was the purpose of removing the solder? Does it remove a short between connections. What happens if it’s left on? Thanks…
The solder needs to be remove .it's there to protect the laser from damage until it's installed. If it's left it will not read games
Hey! Working on a Wii Build and am curious about something - is it possible to add a better or rig a better laser ? I’m trying to restore the DVD function without potentially burning it out. I have a lot of old anime and things I’d want to watch - granted I can use a dvd player sure - but turning this thing into a cool multimedia device for my son is the priority lol
@LAST1GGK it has to be the exact laser for your model wii console for it to work and be compatible .thanks
What mini-screen are you using to test the Wii?
Some backup camera lcd I got of ebay .if you search for that you will find it
If I were to replace the whole optical drive are there 2 varieties like the lasers?
Probably. But I am not for sure
I was wondering if you can tell me where does this go inside this part and how can I put it back in. It's like a black arm with a little spring it looks kind of like the white arms in the inside part of the drive on the cover. Please help. When I close it the disk now stops because of it
I am not sure what part you are talking about .did it come out of the disc drive ? Here's my Twitter x.com/vitals817?t=GBk6gV8le0lEth2YPuz0hA&s=09 if you can post a pic thereafter I can help thamks for watching
What does that battery do?
@michaelspiker2241 cmos battery .keeps the time and date alive
Does it matter what kind of laser ? Or all wii lasers are the same ? Like for the gamecube compatible wii and non
Has to be a wii laser and there are 2 versions of laser the wii takes . I explain in the video how to identify the one you need.
Ok thanks . I got cut off watching and I just had to ask lol
Also , I have a Wii that reads fine but it won’t eject. Those little metal clips that keep the disc in doesn’t move at all. Should I just replace the whole optical drive ? Or you think it’s like the motor for the eject ?
@@JRaft0518 it's probably the eject motor. I would just replace the whole drive
I followed this tutorial exactly the only thing i didnt do was move the old white piece to the new laser, but the one i ordered came with one already attached.
Nice did it work
@@Warranty-Voided nope
I forgot to finish typing that comment when I initially wrote it 😭😭
@@SuperYori sorry to hear that
@@Warranty-Voided yeah it read gamecube games for about a day and then decided to just stop attempting to read anything
Where did you buy your laser from
Ebay but you can get them on aliexpress too
@@Warranty-Voidedwhich model was yours
@@goatified4038 in oder to see what laser you need you have to take it apart and look at the ribbon Cable on the laser . There is only 2 types one is stright and one is L shaped
I installed a new laser, the disc drive clicks twice, then turns off, why?
Maybe the ribbon Cable is not Seated properly. Do you remove the solder blob on the ribbon cable
@@Warranty-VoidedI did, maybe not enough. When I power it up, it clicks twice, spins the disc and then the laser clicks twice before giving up.
@@mikewazowski5900 I would double check to see if it Seated properly and make sure where the solder blob was that there is no solder left bridging the connection. Just take your time on go over it all . Sorry couldn't be more helpful
Hello, i have a nintwndo wii that doesn't read disc. Is there a certain way to test that it is the laser ?
If the disc is spinning up and it's not playing it's the laser
