St Martin Canal is 4,55km long (which 2km are underground). Build from 1822 to 1825. A lot of mud / trash accumulated on the bottom since the last cleaning in 2001. 7000T of mud, 250T of trash (bootles/cans/bikes..). 4.5T of fish were relocated. Cleaning, masonry repairs and new sluices/floodgates costed 9.5 millions EUR. Yes, private contractors for government job = ineffective work. Like everywhere in the world :D Light construction equipment was used so it doesn't crack the bottom of this historic monument (for all the constructions experts in the comments ;) )
This was seriously painful to watch, whoever was in charge of that operation had absolutely no idea what they were doing. I am an old lady and even I know how that job could have been done more easily. The person that was driving the white tractor didn't even know how to drive it! Very frustrating.
Forget the snow plow!!! A couple of good skidsteers would be perfect, but most of the people commenting have NEVER done anything like this!!!! But well done guys for a good job🤙
what a dumb inefficient way to do the job . they could have put an 8 inch vacuum excavation pump on to a boom , push the debris towards the boom and suck it out down to clean concrete . it would have been 5 times faster . LOL
Had the same thought. Two tracked skidsteers and maybe a small dozer whould do the trick here. Okay, the longfront excavator is a good idea and pretty useful but there is surely some better equipment to clean the canal itself than a tractor and a little excavator. But at the end the Manitou was the right way.
Is it just me but it is just so satisfying to see these heavy machinery work the canal? ... I feel like the men are just 12 year-olds but with bigger tonka toys ... I'm _so_ jealous 😜
@@mickeybigbuds Yeah, pretty ridiculous, You're right, of course! (Your...? Ah, fuck it!) But You gotta admit he perfectly deserved it with that shitshow of a comment, don'tya?
Due to most European streets being so small with limited access. Very difficult to get heavy equipment in. We Americans would have some cats, volvos scraping that sludge up in no time... Pump and dump... No can do in France.
Wow. Sump to get rid of as much water as possible. Front End Loaders to move the spoil to an open end bund that the grab can then get a decent bucket full. The tractor operator hasn't got a clue on how to use that machine effectively. Stop the traffic when loading an excavator onto the trailer. Hate to think what would happen if it slid off sideways. In short whoever is in charge of these clowns needs sacking.
This was painful to watch. Just pitiful! Especially when loading the equipment onto the trailer. Im not sure what method they were using to clean the mud or if we're trying to relocate it on the bottom for the fish to follow.
CLAMENS L'entreprise doit plaisanter!
I wonder how much percentage of what was removed was just plain human made trash and how much the savings could’ve been if it had only been natural sediment needing to be removed. I often try to find ways I can personally decrease any damage I do to this planet. One thing is for sure it’s not a bad place to start with just plain not throwing garbage out irresponsibly... I wish we could all do that.
Wow.. talk about the most nonefficent way of doing a job!!! WTH .. soooooo much wasted time and waste of fuel and waste of equipment. All of it could have been done in half the time half the cost n half the equipment!!!! They better reevaluate the situation n use a better solution. Wow SMH

I can just imagine what They have found in there But they are still doing a good job 👍
Very easy to clean I wish our canals had concrete floors like this..
Amazing excavator operator.
Its amazing the crap that gets thrown into canals, even a Jacuzzi bath in this one, as well as a motorbike!
Wow Glass bottles by the million.
They do love their wines...
Much love to France and how extremely sorrowfull I feel for you in the loss of that priceless jewel Notre Dam.
Supposedly the mini digger is still in there, moving piles of water from one side to the other.
Look at all the bottles. There must be so much broken glass in there..
I bet the smell is indescribable.
fin screenname the shit house on a tuna boat!

This is vehicle. not white
could have cut that work in half with the right equipment
And to think the French are building the next UK nuclear power station. I expect it will come online sometime around the year 2250.
The media report that after the completion of the work, the tractor driver had to be admitted to the hospital for a serious neck injury.

One big wheelloader and the job is done faster than this here and also cheaper
tons of wine bottles...hope they recycle them. good job all. at least your trying. Bravo
should check just how much in those trucks before they drive off and replace, cant believe they have filled One.. painful

heartobefelt Great engineering concept. What will you do with the millions of gallons of liquid waste? I suggest putting that in the river myself.
Drop a couple tracked bobcats in there with 10 to 12 foot blades and it would be done in a week if that

It is just disgusting how humans handle garbage in inncluding sea, lands
Two Canadians, a F150 with a snowplow blade and case of Labatts will get that done in a day or two, no problem. Eh?
Government job paying by the hour ! They're no dummies.
Michael Throw in a £5.00 note and watch two crazy Scottish-guys with shovels clear it in a day.
Ofc course one of the most popular waterways in the biggest city in their country and they have like 5 guys working lolllll
just like the French to do it backwards
backwards, this is vehicle
Seems like their using all the wrong equipment for that. Painful to watch. LOL
cnote4461 I know , get a big front end loader , push it up in a big pile , have excavator on top of pile. Piss that tractor off.
cnote4461 equipment like "there, their, they're" randomly chosen ... does the job anyway, huh?

23 guns and 4.5 skeletons were recovered....and untold wallets..purses..and dead animals...coins were to small to capture...

id love to sift through that shit mud all day and find all the coins
I'm imagining they are still doing this today...
what happens to all of the crap thats scooped up? land fill? recycled? and just look at the amount of glass bottles there is!
wonder where all that was taken out went to?
If they can clean out canals. They can start cleaning out rivers stop a lot of flooding.create jobs also
It's amazing how many experts there are here in the comments.
The comments are part of the fun of TH-cam land. Some very strange people live in this place.
Looks like a slurry consistency’s why not pump
I'm sure it could be pumped and leave the bottles behind for collection later, would be alot more efficient I think
one million bottles.... and a motorcycle.
shut up
Yes, very painful to watch. Far to much non productive travelling of those machines.
Do you think they did deliberately? It's kinda funny watching that
Government workers is my guess. On the hour, don't seem to care, work as slow as possible. Maddening.
so they cleaning it not Renovating it?
they realy don't know what they doing way they doing it way too slow
fast
👏👏👏👏👏👍
The guys must be state employees....they work slowly..anyway,nothing hurries,we’re not on a highway, very low traffic on this canal
A CRANE ,ROLL OFF BINS ,FRONT END LOADER ,QUALIFIED SUPERINTENDENT
I am in shock that there's a part two to this!!!😂🤣😂🤣😂
This is what happens with lowest bid.
Why this is in my youtube recommendations?
Was the water blocked or just a low tide situation?
What dope put the dozer blade on the back of the tractor??🤔
Mick Harris
😂😂😂
Mick Harris well how u putting it on the front of it
Konnte man nicht Saugwagen dafür nehmen
A few Road sweepers on rotation emptying near the long reach excavator would of done a better job

Do septic trucks not have large suction pumps for just such a situation?
I believe the vac trucks would be too expensive
